Spencer Massam(U12 Boys Black) – Spencer tried really hard all game for us, and for his efforts he was our player of the game. Spencer attacked the defense all game, finishing at the basket and drawing several fouls. His trademark defense was on full display too.

Coaches notes
We had a fantastic start to this game! The best first quarter we have had all season! We carried the high intensity all the way until the start of the fourth quarter where we got a bit tired. Last time we versed Cockburn we led most of the game and lost it towards the end so we really focused on improving that this game! We started strong again and lead the entire game this time, finishing on top! Our teamwork was a pleasure to watch this week, we shared the ball, moving to better spots! There is definitely room for improvement but I’m so proud of the girls for their hard work! Good win girls!! Very well deserved!!
Player of the game
Chloe Sheridan – Chloe was super strong for us this week! She protected the ring well, not letting Cockburn have more than one shot with a few big blocks! But every week Chloe is phenomenal. She consistently leads the team with her strong defence and her selfless offence. Chloe is a major asset to our team and a pleasure to coach! Good job Chloe!

Coaches notes
We have been working in training to improve our catching and looking in an effort to make better passes and to dribble less. We saw an improvement in this game, but we still have some work to do. We played against a team that was much bigger than us and they were relentless on the boards. We played with a lot of effort, but it was Cockburn’s second efforts that hurt us. We struggle to score they basketball, which is also making winning games tough.
Player of the game
Spencer Massam tried really hard all game for us, and for his efforts he was our player of the game. Spencer attacked the defense all game, finishing at the basket and drawing several fouls. His trademark defense was on full display too.

Won against Rockingham Flames (88 – 22)
Coaches notes
We played a great team game. Everyone ran the defense well and we were able to maintain a lot of pressure on Rockingham and contain the ball movement and challenge their shots on goal. We backed that up around the hoop and outrebounded Rockingham 44-21. AJ Brar (21pts & 9rbds) was fantastic at both ends. Offensively we had great team chemistry with fast flow and getting the ball through hands. Nate Farrier was consistent (22pts), Charlie Wen clever (11pts), Tane Broadwith (9pts) & Zac Daly (4pts) played consistently at both ends of the floor. Zac Qian (4pts & 6rbds) Our bench again this week showed that they are force to be reckoned with Jeremiah James (17pts) and Munashe Rukodzi, Kevin Zhang & Isaace Edwards all playing reliable minutes.
Player of the game
More bounce to the ounce, Munashe Rukodzi was our player of the game all based on hustle and grind in defense and pulling down 6 big rebounds and solid stops and steals.

Won against Joondalup Wolves (46 – 44)
Coaches notes
This week we faced the Joondalup Wolves at home, coming away with a tense 46-44 win. For three quarters, we played our best team basketball of the season, locked in defensively, fluid in our motion offence, and making smart decisions with the ball. The training focus on attacking the basket to find cutters and options on the weak side was evident and our offensive rebounding was excellent giving us multiple chances to score. However, the boys struggled to put the ball in the basket all game, giving us an uncomfortable 38-21 lead through 3 qtrs.
Joondalup flipped the script in the 4th with a ferocious press and vocal sideline rattling us, swinging the momentum their way. Our defensive transition broke down, and the Wolves stifled our offensive flow, coming oh so close to stealing the win.
Despite a poor shooting day and a tense finish, the hard work in the first three quarters gave us just enough buffer to hold on. We were fortunate to get the win, but the boys continued their development with an outstanding effort for their 4th win on the trot. Keep playing for each other boys, you can really achieve something this season with that level of teamwork. Lets go Suns!
Player of the game
There were solid contributions all around this week – Arona and Zarene controlled the ball well, Oscar saved multiple easy buckets with hard-running transition D and Theo bobbed up all over the place as usual.
This week’s player of the game is Stellan Edowai. Stellan was handed a number of different defensive roles throughout the game showcasing his varied defensive skillset. However, it was his decision-making and selflessness on offense that stood out, earning player of the week honours. Stellan made some excellent reads finding his teammates open for easy looks. Great job Stellan!

Coaches notes
Not a great game and a lot of contributing factors as to why, we played the current team to be beat once again. Our boys fought well and didn’t have a lot of luck under the basket though they tried, going forward we need to get back to basics do execute that correctly. As always there were some great looks but the finish just wasn’t there, we had improvements on rebounds and shots taken and that was our main goal going into this. We’re proud of all our boys but a special mention to Andrej for this game nailing his and 1 but scoring 14 points all up, his determination to improve is something we’ve taken notice of and his defence is slowly getting there! Onto the next!
Player of the game
Hunter Bannister – Hunter has come a long way since joining us and I’m proud of his progression, the potential we saw in him from the beginning has really started coming through. He steps up when the team needs him and leaves it all out on the court, he’s a tough player that’s literally bled for this team! This game saw him a personal record of 9 boards also stealing the ball multiple times and once again lacing a 3 pointer in our time our time of need and scoring 7 crucial points, his ability to read a pass and intercept the ball one of the strongest on the team. Crushing effort legend keep increasing those numbers!!!

Won against Perth Redbacks (50 – 38)
Coaches notes
This was a game of survival. With only 7 players available, and 2 of them battling illness, our group showed toughness, connection, and the kind of effort that defines a team. It may not have been pretty, but it was inspiring to watch. Our defense set the tone. We held Redbacks to just 3 points in the opening quarter and backed it up with relentless rebounding and consistent effort on rotations. Offensively, we struggled to find rhythm at times, but made up for it with second efforts, attacking the rim, and pulling down 25 offensive boards. In a physical game where free throws were hard to come by, the group stayed composed, stuck together, and found a way to grind it out. This one was all about effort and connection. Everyone stepped up, pushed through fatigue, and competed for one another. It wasn’t pretty, but it was gutsy and absolutely earned.
Player of the game
Dani set the tone with her defensive energy and relentless effort. She pressured the ball, attacked with intent, and brought urgency all game. While her shots didn’t always fall, her decision-making and ability to create for her team was excellent. A tough, team-first performance. Nice work Dani!
Honourable mentions: Cara and Indi both pushed through when they probably should have been home in bed. Their effort and willingness to put the team first didn’t go unnoticed. Cara competed on every play, and Indi gave us composure, boards, and smart decisions. Their commitment helped carry our group through.

Coaches notes
After a red-eye trip and 2-hour drive to Bunbury for a 9am game, the U14 girls started flat. Warm-up was quiet, and it showed early. Despite this, their defence in Q1 was strong, forcing turnovers with solid help and walling up in the paint. Finishing again proved costly, with rushed shots and missed layups keeping the score low. Q1 ended 8-5. Q2 followed a similar pattern. The Slammers briefly hit the front, but the girls finished strong to lead 18-14 at halftime. At the break, the focus was to increase defensive pressure, move the ball, and take space when it opened. After the Slammers scored first in Q3, the girls went on a blistering 23-2 run, playing their best team basketball of the season. They led 41-18 going into the final term. In recent games the fourth quarter has let them down, but not this time. The girls stayed composed, focused, and controlled the tempo. They closed out the game with a 20-3 final quarter to secure a dominant 61-21 win—their biggest margin of the season. It was a full team effort and a strong statement on the road.
Player of the game
Player of the Game goes to Indigo Anderson who showed great perseverance and energy. After her first basket, her confidence grew and she became a force on both ends. She was relentless in defence, forcing turnovers and out-rebounding taller opponents, finishing with 11 points.
Special mentions to Sandra Chan with a dominant 19 points in the paint, Amelia Soka for her strong defence and shot blocking, Abby Duggan for her composure and unselfish playmaking, and Ruby Chang for her constant pressure and attack on the ball. The whole team hit the scoreboard in a great team effort.

Loss against East Perth Eagles (27 – 43)
Coaches notes
With illness still affecting our team we went into this game undermanned but boy do these girls fight! They don’t let anything stop them. Early in the game the girls weren’t tight on passes and rebounding which eventuated in the an early jump from east Perth which we were unable to claw back. The girls matched them for the other 3 qtrs showing when we are focused and locked in the can contest anyone. The girls are making beautiful space on the court to make space for themselves and their teammates and continue to defend well. When we get the ball moving up the court and the spacing we will hit the next level. We continue to defend strong and clean making life hard for the opponent to score.
Player of the game
Sofia is always reliable and ready to attack. She is the quiet achiever on the team, she dominates the rebounds, often out rebounding taller plays in offence and defence. She is always smiling and such a pleasure to coach and taking on feedback provided.

Coaches notes
The boys really took it to arguably the strongest team in the competition, matching them for a large part of the game. Some inspired defensive play and hot shooting saw us 4 points ahead at the end of the first. A strong second quarter from our opponents saw them open a lead at half time and despite challenging them in stretches, we were unable to close the gap enough to get back in front.
Ball movement in both half court and transition has been a focus this season. There were some great passages of passing throughput the game but this needs to be more consistent moving into the second half of the season. Our defensive intensity in the backcourt was good, forcing numerous turnovers and we contained well in the paint for multiple efforts. However, stopping the drives were an issue at times and we allowed them too many easy looks at the basket. We will work on this at training this week, but overall, a great effort against a strong team with our score being the second highest score they have conceded this season.
Player of the game
Player of the round this week goes to Lucas. He played with confidence this week and it showed in his hot shooting, going 3 for 3 from long range in the first half. To go along with this, he was strong under the basket on defense, walling up and stopping multiple drives as well as his usual unselfishness kicking the ball early up the court and finding teammates in the half court. Well done, Lucas.

Coaches notes
The lead up to the week our training had been focused on 2 topics, the first being the willingness to just let the ball go when see a team mate open, which lead into focusing on running the Flex at the start of every possession and after 3 rotation at the top if nothing eventuates the boys were allowed to break it up and play whatever they wanted which is usually 4 kinda set plays they have in their bag.
All 10 that played did a great job at some point in the game executing the Flex, and Preston was the biggest benefactor of the structure as he was finding players coming off the baseline screen consistently, and on top of that he was aggressive when he needed to be. Hayden has his best defensive game with a primary role on their star player coming away with 3 rebounds and team high 5 steals! he had multiple cuts where the boys missed him which is something we will have to correct going forward as we have to reward those who plays defense first. Kian Austin Damon were absolute monsters when they were on the floor together challenging shots and rebounding with Kian having 7 while Damon had 8 REBS. Scoring was even throughout with 8 players all scoring evenly.
Player of the game
Playing of the game was almost near impossible to pick. Austin was solid with his usual stat line and had 100%FG, Preston showed his great awareness and vision of finding the players that were open as well as getting himself going. Hayden was impactful with 5 steals. Kian and Damon was like the double dragon brothers.. not only on defensive end but they looked for each other on the offensive end. It was a REALLY hard one for Mark and I but Damon just pip Kian for the player of the game with his high efficiency and the blocks he did. No disrespect to Kian, it was by the finest of margin that Damon won this round.

This week marked the second week of our new defensive structure, and I’m pleased with the girls’ efforts. Their ability to switch between sets was notably seamless, showing commitment to our strategies and continuous improvement. Every player made a valuable contribution, making the selection of the Player of the Game one of the toughest I’ve encountered so far. This reflects the collective strength of our team. A significant improvement on our turnover count, which we managed to limit to just 25 this week, a marked decrease from 45 two weeks ago. This reduction is encouraging and highlights our growing discipline on the court. I was really pleased with our shooting performance this week. The girls shot the ball well, which when facing tough opponents, capitalising on limited opportunities becomes crucial. We also showed wonderful resilience by maintaining focus and fighting until the final possession
Overall, I’m proud of how far we’ve come. We’re building on our strengths and learning from our challenges. With continued effort and teamwork, I’m confident we’ll keep making progress.
Player of the game
As previously mentioned this one could’ve been a raffle, Gabbi was wonderful with eight points and really finding her shooting touch this week. Vatsy gave us really, really good minutes, Olivia was again instrumental at the point of attack defensively, and as mentioned above, the whole team contributed so well from 1 to 9 but this week we’ve decided to give Ella player of the game. She had nine points eight rebounds and had a tough role having to play all but six minutes of this game with our other big’s in foul trouble, she was able to keep her concentration level all day anchoring our defence as well as shooting the ball tremendously well… Well done Ella.

Won against Warwick Senators (77 – 47)
Coaches notes
In an important “revenge game” the girls impressed with an aggressive, connected and dominant performance against a Senators team that handed us our only loss of the season. We brought it from the outset, clamping down as a unit on defence, converting turnovers to transition points. In the halfcourt, we set the nets ablaze with laser shooting. We really took it up a gear in the second half, winning 46 to 21.
As we look down the homeward stretch of the season, we aim to build our team chemistry, honing our connectedness and assertiveness. As always, our success on court will start with imposing our will on the defensive end.
Player of the game
Bonnie Clark: Showing her growing bag of tricks, Bonnie put on an impressive display of aggression and control. Offensively, Bonnie got deep into the paint, beating multiple defenders, finishing with power and finesse. Defensively, her on ball pressure crippled opposing ball handlers, causing them to repeatedly give up ball. She capped of a great night with selfless passes and 3 shots from deep. Amazing effort, Bonnie!

Coaches notes
After a slow start to the game and what felt like the ring had glade wrap over it the suns girls knuckled down, bring Williton into the trenches during the 3rd quarter stunning the tiger with their extra effort on defence. By the start of the 4th the suns had firmly entrenched themselves in the tigers heads almost pulling off a stunning comeback but getting out played by the clock. Notable mentions to Anika who extra effort of the offensive boards gave the suns every opportunity to win. Kira was exceptional all game combining solid defence with some skilful offensive baskets. If the girls are able to put together a full games consistently they will be force to be reckoned with.

Coach: Bruno Kongawoin
Won against Warwick Senators (83 – 67)
Coaches notes
After four straight losses, we bounced back with a much-needed win; one that looked doubtful early in the week due to illness and player absences that disrupted our preparation. A tweak to our starting line-up gave us a much-needed spark. Despite conceding three early baskets, we stuck to the game plan, stayed composed, and seized control midway through the first quarter; never looking back. Ryker Phillips delivered yet another standout performance, dominating on both ends of the floor and finishing with a game-high 35 points, the top score across the round. He was ably supported by Llafton Muller who added 18 points, and Tadiwa Rukodzi who contributed a valuable 14 points. Though Amani Kongawoin didn’t score, his defensive presence and shot-blocking were key to igniting our transition game. Off the bench, Rishaan Billimora stepped up big, securing crucial defensive rebounds late to hold off a Senators comeback.
Next week, we host the Willetton Tigers in what will be another pivotal game as we look to continue climbing the season ladder.
Player of the game
This week’s Player of the Round goes to Ryker Phillips, earning the nod by popular vote and for good reason.
Simply put, Ryker competes. Every possession, every play, every moment, he shows up with intensity and focus that lifts the entire team. In a game where we needed someone to step up and lead from the front, Ryker delivered in a big way, finishing with a dominant 35 points while anchoring both ends of the court.
What sets Ryker apart isn’t just the scoreboard; it’s the way he competes. His relentless energy, on-ball pressure, and willingness to do the dirty work all speak volumes about his mindset. He doesn’t just play the game: he attacks it.
Well done, Ryker. Keep competing.

Another game that went right down to the wire, however this time the boys came out victorious. Despite a less than ideal second quarter where we allowed Willetton to score 27 points, the boys were locked in defensively and made the Tigers work hard for their baskets. Offensively we are still a work in progress, however when we move the ball and look to be aggressive toward the rim, we can keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Won against Mandurah Magic (79 – 42)
Coaches notes
This week we trekked to Mandurah to play Mandurah White, following a very focused practice week. The objective was to implement everything we practiced into our game. We talk about playing to ‘the line’ which is a reference to nullifying our opposition’s strengths with targeted tactics. The line represents following all structures to perfection. Deviation from the line is unfavourable & the closer we stick to the line, the smaller the chances are, of our opposition beating us with what we know. As WABL is so choreographed, it’s important not to get beaten by what you know! Without doubt Wednesday was our most targeted session & I am pleased to report that we didn’t deviate from our line very much at all on Sunday. The line required us to front the post to force lob passes, dig quickly on defensive rotations when ‘bigs’ closed out perimeter shots, play offence off multiple screens, hunt & run in transition… & so on. The players filled the stat sheet with unselfish basketball & we screened off-ball better than in any other game. The result is only the product of playing the right way, & we’ve been building towards this result for some weeks. I am so pleased for the Team as they thoroughly deserved such a rewarding result.
Player of the game
This week our player of the game goes to Billy. He shot a clip of 50% from the field, visited the free throw line 8 times, yanked down 8 rebounds & dished out one of the best assists of the season… I see leadership qualities in Billy & he has natural flair for the game. Billy is a big character in our Team & an excellent communicator. At this stage of the season, I am seeing Billy improve his understanding of the offensive side of the game, which will help our Team greatly as we progress. He’s a proud young man & this week he really harnessed his skillset, putting it to work against Mandurah. Well done big guy!

Coaches notes
After showing some promising signs last week, we entered this game with optimism, ready to test ourselves against a strong Perry Lakes team. Unfortunately, we struggled to match their intensity early on and found ourselves trailing by 29 points at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was also tough, as we only scored 14 points and went into halftime down by 59. Despite the challenging start, the girls showed great character in the second half. They regrouped, lifted their energy, and delivered a much-improved third quarter. While the result didn’t go our way, the effort and resilience shown in the second half were encouraging. This game serves as a valuable learning experience. We’ll take the lessons on board, continue to grow, and shift our focus to the next challenge ahead.

Honorable mentions:

Player of the game goes to Joshua Mahama. Josh was selfless all day, he didn’t shy away from the challenge and was one of the few that can say hand on heart he gave all across the whole game. Another good win on the road with a strong team performance against Rockingham. Similar to last time we played, our back court pressure created multiple turnovers and we converted almost all of these into scores. We gave up a few put backs in the first quarter to a very dominant big but it was great to watch the team adjust to Rockingham’s offence and take away the dunkers spot for the rest of the game. Leading by 40 in the last quarter we did let our foot of the gas a bit and were outscored by 4 points in the last. Still some good lessons to be learned and it is fantastic as a coach to continue to see this group develop and grow as a team. Again 5 different players into double figures and every single player is contributing at a high level.

Player of the game this week is Mauric. Mauric has been building nicely over the past few weeks and the energy he brings each week as soon as he enters the game is infectious.
