Players of the Round:
Peyton Broadwith (U12 Girls 3) – For one of our youngest players at just 7 years old, and one of the smallest on the court, Peyton showed incredible courage and determination against much older girls. She never backed down, applying relentless defensive pressure, staying with her opponents, making key interceptions, and even recording a fantastic block.
Peyton’s ball-handling skills were a standout throughout the game. Her confident dribbling, excellent footwork, and ability to control the ball under pressure were impressive to watch. She played with heart, hustle, and confidence well beyond her years.
A well-deserved Player of the Game performance. Keep up the great work.

Zane Skelton (U14 Boys Team 1) – This weeks award goes to Zane Skelton, after having a few weeks down on confidence it was really pleasing to see him go out there this week and play freely and have fun. Next step is to keep the consistency, week in week out – he is always working hard at training so pleasing to see his work translate on court finishing with a season high 6 assists and hitting the opening 3 of the game to get is off to a 9 – 0 start.

Won against Rockingham Flames (42 – 36)

Coaches Notes

The first half was excellent. We were calm, composed and made all the right choices. On defence, we held them to 2 points in the first quarter! And then 12 in the second. We ended half time up by 10 which is a good margin if you compare how competitive the flames team is. It was the third quarter that was our error this week. We came out of half time unsettled and Flames were the opposite, they came out ready to take control of the game. And they did. At the start of the fourth, they had managed to make the scores 28-30, with an 2 point lead against us. Our problem was the turnovers. The girls were forcing shots and giving careless passes cross court to which Flames picked up on quite easily. When we started the 4th, we fixed our attitude and we came in and scored a quick 6 points to retake the lead and were able to maintain control from there. Another nail biter of a game! Back to training to work on minimising the turn overs.

Player of the game

I have been waiting to give this one! Priya is an excellent addition to this team, she hadn’t played basketball before but she definitely has picked it up quite quickly. This week, she set the defensive tone for the team. I believe she forced over 10 turnovers a quarter and that’s me not even being dramatic! Her defence was strong and intense and even kept to only 3 fouls for full court pressing the entire game. On offence, she made great team-first choices which lead to multiple shots on transition. Whilst even having 9 points herself. She took everything on board from coach and we couldn’t be prouder. Great game, Priya!

Loss against Hills Raiders (13 – 57)

Coaches notes

I’m really proud of the girls this week, a true team effort against a bigger bodied Raiders side. The girls dominated the mid court linking passes into offence and transitioning hard into defence. Unfortunately we were often out-muscled at the both ends (the skills are there, the size is coming). The opposition coach mentioned that they struggled against our screening too. Intensity was our focus and the girls brought it. Great effort girls!

Player of the Game

Our player of the round this week goes to Mia Scardifield. Mia has been working extremelly hard on her defensive game, focus and positioning across the court, Sunday’s game showcased this hard work. Intercepting passes, applying pressure end to end and contesting rebounds. Keep going Mia, you’re on the right track! Well deserved.

Loss against Lakeside Lightning (6 – 93)

Coaches notes

Our dribbling, crossovers, and retreat dribbles were excellent. Defensively, we stayed with our opponents and showed great effort throughout the game. The other team was very quick getting up the court, and while we worked hard to secure rebounds, their height advantage made it difficult. They were able to grab second-chance opportunities and put the ball back up for easy baskets.
Despite the result, I couldn’t be prouder of our team. We say it every week, but for 7–8-year-old players, the skill level, understanding of the game, and basketball IQ on display is truly amazing. The effort, teamwork, and improvement these young athletes continue to show is fantastic to watch. Keep working hard and having fun—the future is bright!

Loss against East Perth Eagles (69 – 96)

Coaches Notes

Unfortunately, we came away with a loss this week, but the boys battled hard throughout the game. We were within eight points at the final break and had even taken the lead during the third quarter. However, East Perth’s pressure proved overwhelming in the fourth quarter, fuelling a 14–0 run that ultimately put the game out of reach.

Despite the result, there were still plenty of positives to take away. Our offensive rebounding was excellent at times, creating valuable second-chance opportunities, and there were patches where our team play was outstanding. The next step for us is finding a way to put those strong moments together for a full four quarters. If we can do that, we’ll put ourselves in a much better position moving forward.

Player of the Game

This week’s Player of the Match is Charlie Wen. While Charlie may not always fill the scoring column, he consistently does all the little things that help the team succeed. With our starting guard in foul trouble for most of the game, Charlie was asked to take on a much bigger role and stepped up brilliantly. His defensive hustle and intensity helped keep us in the contest, while his unselfish play and ability to facilitate on offence ensured we continued to create quality opportunities. Charlie’s teamwork, effort, and willingness to do whatever the team needed were outstanding all game. Great work, Charlie!

Loss against East Perth Eagles (33 – 64)

Coaches notes

We had a rough game this week, the game just wasn’t flowing how we would have liked, I think the boys stayed strong though and pushed through what was a tough game for us.
We had a good last quarter of the game, we were shutting the other team down a lot more and more of our shots were sinking, we didn’t get as many drives as we usually would in games, but this is something for us to work on for next time.
Big shout out to Harvey and Cruz for joining in this week, they stepped up into the team from there DP positions and played great, they should be really proud.

Player of the game

Player of the week goes to Kevin, his defence was very solid and he committed to his boxes outs on rebounds every time, he got a few steals and some great assists, he was very much a team player and kept the team spirit up all game.

Won against Hills Raiders (85 – 25)

Coaches Notes

The boys seemed to hit a bit of a slump over the previous two games, so this week our focus was on resetting expectations and reminding them of what they need to bring every time they step on the court. It was great to see a much better response and a real willingness to lift their effort.

One of the biggest challenges as a coach is helping players see the potential they have within themselves. The growth this group has shown has already been incredible, but improvement doesn’t stop there. To keep growing, we have to keep showing up, keep working hard, and keep challenging ourselves to be better than we were yesterday.

Proud of the response this week. Keep believing in yourselves, keep raising your own standards, and keep pushing your limits. The best is still to come.

Player of the Game

Over the past few weeks, Isaac has really stepped outside his comfort zone. Not only has he been listening to feedback and applying it on the court, but over the last couple of games he’s also been asked to play in different positions. Without hesitation, he embraced the challenge, adapted to what was needed, and gave his best for the team. That’s a fantastic quality to have as a player.

His willingness to learn, adapt, and improve, along with his team-first attitude, has been clear to see. Keep working hard, keep pushing yourself to improve every game, and continue believing in what you’re capable of. We’re all proud of you, Isaac!

Loss against Perry Lakes Hawks (38 – 47)

Coaches notes

The team showed a fantastic attitude throughout the game and continued to support one another from start to finish. While consistency wasn’t always at the level we strive for, the boys never stopped competing and kept working hard in every quarter. Shot selection remains an area for development, and with continued practice, the team will make even better decisions in scoring situations.

Defensively, we found ourselves a step behind at times and faced an opposition that held a significant height advantage. Despite this challenge, the boys continued to battle hard and showed plenty of determination.

The most pleasing aspect of the game was seeing the skills practised at training being transferred into match situations. The team is growing in confidence and regularly using techniques such as crossovers, step-throughs, and up-and-unders during games. These are fantastic signs of development and show the players are learning and applying new skills under pressure. There is plenty to build on from this performance, and the team’s continued improvement and willingness to learn is something to be very proud of.

Player of the game

Player of the Round went to William Sutherland for his outstanding effort and development throughout the game. William has been working hard at training, and this week he produced some of his best defensive basketball of the season. He was strong on the boards, attacking rebounds with confidence and giving his team valuable extra possessions. Just as importantly, he looked to involve his teammates by making smart passes after securing the ball. William is continuing to grow as a team player, showing greater awareness and commitment to helping the team succeed. A well-deserved recognition for a fantastic performance.

Loss against Willetton Tigers (34 – 56)

Coaches notes

A tough result for our girls this week, it pointed out a lot of areas we still need to work on. After managing just 11 points in the first half, I challenged the group at halftime to look me in the eye and honestly ask themselves if they were giving their best effort. To their credit, they responded brilliantly, competing much harder in the second half and showing far more energy, toughness and intent.

Defensively, there were some really positive moments. We recorded 14 steals and 5 blocks while forcing 30 turnovers, but the story of the game continues to be possessions. Willetton finished with 68 shots to our 52, largely due to our 37 turnovers and 25 offensive rebounds allowed. Too often our turnovers came immediately after opposition scores, allowing them to score again before our defence could get organised. Instead of defending two points, we found ourselves defending four at a time, and those momentum swings proved costly.

Despite the result, there were positives. The girls fought much harder after halftime, showed great resilience, and never stopped competing. The effort in the second half was much closer to the standard we’re capable of, and that’s the version of ourselves we need to bring for four quarters.

Player of the game

This week’s Player of the Game goes to Harper Dostal. While the finish around the rim wasn’t quite there this week, Harper did a fantastic job getting there. It was great to see her playing with confidence again and realising she can beat defenders off the dribble consistently. Her change of direction and ball handling put Willetton under pressure all game. Harper also carries a huge workload, bringing the ball up on most of our possessions and setting us up offensively. Defensively she was outstanding, finishing with 5 steals and constantly disrupting passing lanes. If a few more shots had dropped, this could have been one of her most complete games yet. Well done, Harper!

Won against Mandurah Magic (68 – 60)

Coaches Notes

Another win in the books, but definitely not our prettiest. With an early morning trip to Mandurah, we never quite found the level we’ve come to expect from ourselves. We built a lead of almost 20 points before allowing our opponents back into the game, with the margin cut to just four late in the second half. Credit to the girls though, they steadied when it mattered most and finished strong to secure a hard fought 7 point victory.

Sunday officially marks the end of playing every team in the competition, and we’re proud to say we’ve gone through the entire league undefeated. An incredible achievement that reflects the hard work this group has put in all season.

It was made even tougher after losing one of our key bigs, Jerayah, to injury, and with Chloe away over the coming weeks, our depth will certainly be tested. Despite that, the seven girls who played showed great resilience, digging deep and pulling together when it counted. It wasn’t our best basketball, but sometimes the ability to find a way to win on an off day says just as much about a team’s character.

Player of the Game

With only one true big available, Eilish stepped up in the biggest way, playing huge minutes and embracing the challenge from start to finish. Against a much taller and stronger opposition, she battled tirelessly on the boards, coming down with countless strong rebounds.
What stood out even more was Eilish’s maturity. After copping some rude comments from an opposition player, she had a quick break to reset and then straight back to the game. She came back onto the court even stronger, added our final 2 points and played a crucial role in helping us close out the game. A fantastic performance built on resilience and toughness. Well deserved, Eilish!

Loss against Cockburn Cougars (27 – 86)

Coaches notes

Last encounter we had with cockburn they held us to only 6 points, this time we managed to put 27 on them. The girls made improvements in bringing the ball up the court under the physical Cockburn press, although there were still multiple turnovers, we created a lot of chances once bypassing the press. Despite going through a lot of contact, it didn’t deter the girls away from driving the to basket against much taller defenders giving us chances at the line. The game shows that there’s still a lot of room for improvement but the girls are slowing getting there and should be proud of their efforts

Player of the game

Felicity-Jay Logue. Felicity has consistently been our floor general for the season but she stepped up her defensive efforts this week. It felt like she was everywhere on the court chasing down loose Cockburn players and trapping at the half court. She also set up our half court offence and was very vocal leading the girls. Her willingness to drive through contact set up points for herself and many assists to her teammates.

Won against Lakeside Lightning (68 – 58)

Coaches Notes

After playing well under our normal standards last week the boys were put to the test this week going up against the top team. Really positive to see the team work return this week showing in the numbers with 25 assist out our 27 made shots. Happy to see the team face adversity and bounce right back, showing me that the growth as a team is moving in the right direction leading into the end of the season. We still have plenty of to work on especially looking after the ball, finishing the game with a very high turn over count of 27.

Notable mentions:
Isaac Date – 21 points (63% FG), 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 8 steals and 2 blocks.
Nathanael Hauraki – 13 points, 6/9 FT, 6 rebounds and a season high 3 assists.
Jason Chizelunwa – 14 points (70% FG), 6 rebound and 2 blocks.

Coach: Ben Marks

Loss against Rockingham Flames (47 – 79)

Coaches notes

Playing in a tough away game environment, we could not get enough momentum to claw back the lead. This was not one of our best performances. Our opponents pressured the ball full court for the whole game, and we did not respond with the physicality needed for portions of the game which led to far too many turnovers that allowed easy baskets. We did have many transition opportunities but did not finish at a high enough rate to get back into the contest. An increase in intensity on the defensive end and in transition during the end of the third into the fourth quarter was a positive we can take into next week with a game against the top of the ladder team.

Player of the game

Another solid performance from Kirath on both ends of the floor added to his consistent season with 11 points and multiple steals. Fletcher and Emmanuel battled hard inside against their dangerous big. Player of the round this week goes to Ashton, who matched their physicality, rebounded strong, drove hard to the basket and kicked the ball ahead in transition. Well done Ashton!

Loss against Perry Lakes Hawks (37 – 51)

Coaches Notes

We started the game this weekend very well, playing some great full court defence leading to transition opportunities which lead to ending the quarter up 1. From there the game was mostly back and forth. Perry Lakes were ferocious on the defensive end, getting stops and fighting hard every possession, the boys stuck with it and kept fighting. Unfortunately we let go of the ropes in the 4th, leading to the Hawks getting the win.

Great games from Carter and Harry with 9 points, Theo with 11 and Will following up a great performance last week with another this weekend.

Player of the Game

Player of the round is Chase McDonald. Chase played with great energy on defence this week, was fantastic controlling the ball and pace of the game, also making some really good decisions. He may not have been top scorer this week but his presence is always felt on the court through the things that don’t show up in the box score.

Won against Hills Raiders (69 – 60)

Coaches notes

This was another close game that was hard work to get in front and stay in front. We played a good team game both defensively & offensively. Our defense has been good & consistent the last few weeks and enabled us to force turnovers and provide us with valuable additional possessions. The boys have been good at pushing the ball up the floor and finding our rim runners for some easy buckets in transition. We also showed some good patience in the half-court to work the ball around and find the advantages. We had some troubles with their bigs getting easy buckets in the paint and we were able to slow that down enough in the 4th quarter to finish with a win. We hit a few 3s with the help of the backboard which wasn’t pretty but effective. A good team contribution with all players making positive impact with their minutes with 8 players scoring and 4 in double figures. Need to continue to work on our communication especially in defense, free throw shooting and consistent boxing out would reduce those second chances.

Player of the Game

Some good individual performances in the game, but this weeks player of the game was Arona Gopolang. Arona defensively is a nightmare to ball handlers and Arona is able to keep in front as well as get at the ball for steals or forcing turnovers. Offensively Arona makes good decisions with the ball and either creates for his team mates or attacks space to get to the rim. Great work Arona especially coming back from an ankle injury.

Loss against Willetton Tigers (39 – 52)

Coaches notes

This week was about group standards. We came out flat against a very good Tigers team who were prepared for us. They were physical, took us out of our comfort zone and we allowed them to play to their strengths. That saw us trailing by 17 points heading into the final quarter.

To the group’s credit, we found some form and managed to close the gap to just 7 points with a little over 3 minutes to go. It felt like we had worked our way back into the game, but a couple of turnovers in a row allowed Tigers to capitalise and put the game out of reach. A tough result, but also an opportunity to reflect, learn and come back stronger.

Coach: Daniel Heyman

Won against Joondalup Wolves (69 – 53)

Coaches notes

Coming in 3 guards down, we had to change our gameplan and ask players to expand their roles. We played a solid first half, leading by 5 at the main break. Our third quarter is where we really broke the game open. We took charge through consistent paint attack and with our aggressive play at both ends. It was a welcome return to form after a couple of weeks of substandard execution.

We play the Redbacks away this week. We hope to carry over our positive play into the last round before the break.

Player of the Game

Mia Dobie. Mia was assigned the weight of point guard responsibility and asked to lead the team’s offense. She played with poise and control, channelling her trademark electric energy to perfection. Mia’s give-and-go game was impressive, slashing and finishing with finesse. Her defensive tenacity gave the Wolves problems all day. Mia finished with an impressive 14-point tally and ushered the team to an outstanding win. Amazing game, Mia.

Loss against Cockburn Cougars (33 – 38)

Coaches notes

This week was an amazing team effort and one that everyone involved should be proud of. The energy from the bench was every bit as important as the effort from the players on the floor, with the girls supporting and encouraging each other from start to finish.

Before the game, we spoke about taking it to an undefeated Cougars team, and we very nearly pulled it off. The girls competed hard for every possession and showed tremendous belief in themselves and each other throughout the contest. It was a great example of what can happen when we play within our system and trust the process. Our high-pressure defence was outstanding and played a major role in keeping the Cougars to their lowest score of the season so far. The girls executed our defensive principles with great intensity and discipline, making life difficult for the opposition all game.

While we fell just short of the result, this performance showed how far the group has come. The effort, teamwork and commitment to our style of play were exceptional and should give the girls great confidence moving forward.

Player of the Game

Taylor Orr. Taylor is the glue in our team and a player who is in contention for Player of the Week almost every game. Her enthusiasm and energy are outstanding, and she brings a positive attitude that lifts those around her. Whether she is on the court or on the bench, Taylor gives 100% to her team every single week. Her defensive pressure and ability to generate steals were a standout this week, creating valuable opportunities for our team and setting the tone for our defensive intensity. Taylor leads through her effort, commitment and willingness to do whatever is needed for the group, making her an invaluable part of our team.

Loss against Binar (25 – 79)

Coaches Notes

This game was a good learning experience for our team. Binar got away from us and put significant scoreboard pressure on early. Our team played with good intensity, but Binar’s intensity was exceptional. They won the one percenters and showed impressive ball handling skills, regularly interrupting our play and generating fast breaks. Our ball handlers were under a lot of pressure but continued to work hard adjusting their styles to utilise quick passing to move the ball down the court. Our talls worked hard to protect the paint in defence and find space in the paint in offence and our mids put on strong pressure in defence and assisted their teammates in offence to move the ball down the court.

Although the margin was large it didn’t reflect the effort that our players continued to show across the game. They should be proud of the maturity they showed against such a tough opponent.

Player of the game

Our player of the game is Eliza Eaton. Eliza has shown tremendous growth and consistency, bringing an intensity that has had a major impact on the game. Her tenacity and determination are evident every time she steps on the floor, and her defensive pressure has been outstanding. Opponents find themselves taken completely out of the game due to her relentless effort, strong positioning, and ability to disrupt plays. Offensively, she creates excellent space and her movement and court awareness allow her to get into dangerous scoring positions. Once her teammates find her under the rim, and she recognises the strength in her drive, she will become dominant on the scoreboard as well.

Player of the game

Loss against Rockingham Flames (72 – 75)

Coaches Notes

The contest lived up to the old saying of being a game of two halves. We were the stronger side early, controlling the tempo and holding the advantage through the first half, but Rockingham responded after the break and gradually swung the momentum in their favour. With neither team able to pull away, the game remained tightly contested throughout, but a late push from the opposition saw them claim a narrow 75-72 victory.

Despite the result, there were several positives to take from the performance. Alijah Acabado was outstanding offensively, pouring in 23 points while shooting an efficient 57 percent from the field. Kyan Moodley delivered another well-rounded performance with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists, helping drive an offence that produced 18 assists on 29 made baskets.

Ultimately, the difference came on the rebounding battle. Rockingham held a commanding 47-28 advantage on the glass, including 16 offensive rebounds that led to crucial second-chance points. That extra possession count proved decisive in a game where both teams were otherwise closely matched, allowing Rockingham to overcome a slight disadvantage in shooting efficiency and edge out the win.

Player of the game

Alijah gets the player of the game this week. Over the last few weeks he has been working hard on both ends of the court and its showing. His composure under pressure is a standout of his game.

This week was a top of the table clash in which we went down by 4 points. The girls defensively were strong in patches and had a strong 3rd quarter which seen us come back from being down 10.

Player of the Game

Holly Marsh. Holly has been a consistent offensive threat all season averaging 30 points a game while giving the same effort on the defensive end.

U18 Boys Team 1
Coaches: Ron Flores

Won against Binar Maali (112 – 90)

Coaches Notes

Another complete team effort today. We knew that Binar liked to start fast averaging 29 points a game in their first quarter. so the team had an emphasis defensively on slowing them down early and holding them to 21 for the quarter whilst starting white hot themselves and opening the game with 38 points.
Defensively they went up a gear in the second and held Binar to 16 points for the quarter and really put them to the sword.

Player of the game

Honourable mentions:
Anthony Flores a menace defensively with 8 steals to go with his 18 points and 6 assists, he really set the table early for effort and intent.
Odin Amundsen had another consistent offensive game built on work rate and effort, his rebound numbers were slightly off this week otherwise it would have been a real complete game.
Player of the round goes to Cooper Hewer, he was the beneficiary of some great offensive execution early to put him in some great shooting opportunities, he lit Binar up early and never let up finishing with 34 points & 9 rebounds to go with some fine defensive work.

Loss against Southwest Slammers (69 – 80)

Coaches notes

Tough result for the group going down 80–69 against Southwest, who have been the benchmark team in our division this season.
We came out with strong energy early and showed in the first quarter exactly what we’re capable of when we play with pace and intent. To our credit, there were multiple stretches throughout the game — particularly again in the third quarter — where we were able to match it with them and apply real pressure.
Southwest controlled parts of the game through their 2–3 zone, which slowed our momentum for a period, but the positive was that when we returned to attacking with purpose and moving the ball, we were able to generate good opportunities and close the gap.
The takeaway for us is clear — the level is there. It now becomes about extending those strong phases for longer periods, rather than letting the game drift.
There were also positives in improved foul discipline and some strong individual and team efforts across the game.
We’ll take the learnings from this one and look to build consistency as we prepare for next week.

Player of the game

Tom Lishman led us today with his pressure and toughness on the defensive end. He’s one of our best defenders, and his ability to create disruption was a big factor in our momentum swings throughout the game.
He finished with 14 points on 5–7 shooting, including 1–1 from three, and consistently turned defence into offence for us. His 4 steals, which is becoming his standard, came without putting us under pressure with fouls, which is a great reflection of his control and discipline.
On top of that, his efficiency gave us real scoring when we needed it most.
Tom’s game has been building all season and this week was a another great step forward for him

Coaches Notes

Just as previous week, we manage to once again lock down the oppositions biggest threat. Laith had been average 24pts per game for Binar and Deacon did a solid job keeping him to 4pts at the half, before finishing with 14pts and scoring a few more when the game was well out of reach.

We had some sad news over the week as Big Tom Bartle scan came back with a season ending injury, which means now as a team we will have to make some certain changes and I’m confident that as long as the boys accept some trial and error we should still have a solid second half of the season.

There isn’t really much to say, except that these young men are starting to hit their strides on the defensive end, learning to make adjustments when needed and alot faster with more fluidity. So credit to the boys for listening and executing, I know not alot of them have had a coach who is constantly monitoring the game making little movement and adjustments, so I’m going to say they’ve come along way fast learning to accept responsiblities and roles within the game.

Player of the Game

It’s harder and harder to work out who the player of the game is as the season deepens, because expectations are alot higher on certain players. So with my nomination now it comes down to the biggest progress and growth as the season goes on.

Xiang had one of his toughest (in toughness) outing, plenty of steals, aggressive to the paint, set some of the hardest brutal screens I’ve ever seen and overall was just an absolute bulldog. In an era where everyone is looking for speed, finesse, finishing shooting.. sometimes we need to remember that the ones who do all the little things that doesn’t show up on the stat sheets needs to be rewarded. Well done Xiang!
