This was a really close game! We had our big out sick this week and the Mandurah girls were giant! That didn’t stop our girls this week. We fought hard and kept our hands in the air for the whole game and for some smaller girls we were strong on defence this week! We started slow again this week, we were down 15 at one point in the game but we were much quicker at picking it up and taking the lead again. We controlled the second half of the game, keeping the lead all the way to the end! We were a thousand times better on offence this week, passing the ball forward and sharing between teammates like we practice at training. We still have a lot of improving to do but this game was good to see we’re constantly improving each week. Good win girls! I am so proud of your continuous effort each week. Definitely well deserved!!!

Ayla Falconbridge! Ayla was strong on both ends of the court this week! Each week Ayla scores many points but this week she showed her improvement taking the right drives & making the right passes. Whilst also putting her body on the line and backing up Chlo!! Good job Ayla!! I am so proud!

Facing an undefeated team on their home court that has been blowing teams away all season was a daunting task, and the boys began the game with this clearly on their mind. We had some good defensive stops early but our inability to make the right play hurt us. Bad passes, not keeping our head up and poor execution lead to a 20-4 first quarter deficit. To the boys’ credit though, they bounced back with a much more controlled second quarter. The defensive intensity was turned up which lead to some easy baskets. Unfortunately Joondalup were much more polished and organized than us and ended up beating us comfortably after a strong third quarter. Again, it was out lack of cohesiveness that cost us an opportunity for a win. We need to get in synch in the halfcourt offense and focus on making the right pass at the right time so the defense has to work harder. When we all work together the offense will flow.
Player of the game
Kirath Dhanjal stood out on the defensive end. He was a disruptor, getting steals and deflections and generally making life difficult for Joondalup guards. He also chipped in with 7 points on the other end with some nice shooting and finishing at the basket. Well done Kirath.

East Perth, currently the top team, known for putting on a clinic against many of their opponents. We knew we were in for a tough contest.
Our game focus was clear: defence, rebounding, and hustle, using those pillars to fuel our offence. The boys embraced the challenge and delivered, especially with strong contributions coming off the bench.
We trailed at the half, 38–26. Despite this, we maintained composure and fought our way back into the game, winning the second half 25–21, ultimately falling just 8 points short at the final siren.
Our rebounding was highlight – winning the count 36–26. Still work to do in converting those boards into scoring opportunities.
AJ Brar (16 pts) led the scoring effort, well supported by Tane Broadwith (15 pts) and Nate Farrier (12 pts), who also hit a fantastic three-pointer. Zac Daly (4 pts) did a great job advancing the ball through traffic, while Zac Qian (6 rebounds) was solid under the rim.
Charlie Wen, Jeremiah James, Munashe Rukodzi, Kevin Zhang, and Isaac Edwards all made strong contributions some of their best minutes this season.
It was a true team effort drive, determination, and hustle. I’m proud of the boys and excited to see how we match up with East Perth next time.

This week we hosted the Redbacks, who were hungry for their first win of the season. We got off to a red-hot start thanks to some great ball pressure, with our defensive structure proving effective and the visitors getting off to a tentative start. Early in the second quarter we had opened up a 17-point lead. Unfortunately, complacency started to set in at the same time as the Redbacks found their feet and dialed up the defensive pressure.
Perth used their size on the offensive glass to generate multiple second chance looks and their continued defensive effort caused multiple turnovers which they turned into transition scores due to our inability to get deep in D-trans, bringing the margin back to just 3 points late in the third quarter.
Fortunately, the Suns boys found another gear in the fourth quarter, with Emmanuel Osei-Bonsu providing the injection of energy we needed to close the game out well in his most impressive game so far.
Our division is very close with any team able to get the best of us on their day. We can’t afford to take any opponent lightly and must find a way to maintain consistency, intensity and stick to our game plan no matter who is on the court in order to have a successful back half of the season
Player of the game
This week there were a number of solid contributors, the most honourable mention goes to Arona Gopolang. Arona’s defence is always solid, this week he harassed the Redback’s ball handlers, generating several steals and hitting the score board. With some better injury luck and a focus on training consistently, the Coaches are looking for more improvement to come.
This week’s player of the game was Stellan Edowai. Stellan plays anywhere from 1 to 5 and this week played a key role, providing solid defence , strong rebounding and steady hand on offence. Stellan overcame recent illness and niggling injuries to put in his best game for the season. Stay positive and keep the effort up Stellan!

This was one of our better performances and a winnable game, our rebounds still need work but has improved and our shot selection is increasing while maintaining discipline. We had some great opportunities with the plays we’ve been running where shots just didn’t sink but also some rushed/ forced shots from not looking up and lack of talking on the court, the big looping passes that always changes possession were less but not gone. Once we really start putting everything together correctly and focus every minute we’re on the court we’re going to really shine! We were off to a slow start but once again Hugh picking up the slack and it was great to the lil Jax return to form cause while he can shoot he’s just a menace on defense and the rest of the court which also keeps the opposition on their toes, by half time we were trailing however starting the 3rd we really started coming together with Amir’s composure dictating the pace we kept wolves at bay. As the game went on we only got stronger with Jaxon leading the way with rebounds & ultimately it was the second quarter that let us down, once more if we stay focused and remember our training we can succeed!

Arthur Jackson: AJ’s always had potential and phenomenal knowledge of the game for his age, this game he brought it! His shot selection and accuracy was his best yet and his hunger for the ball was impressive, to see him overcome a couple of bad habits this quickly is second to none and his determination to settle into plays correctly shown a lot of leadership potential. The old AJ’s not just back he’s better, pulling down 6 important boards and scoring 11 points, he’s come a long way and this one was well deserved!! Stay on this track mate your crushing it!!

This week’s game was a physical, tightly officiated contest that demanded discipline and composure. We started with great energy, jumping out to an early lead, but Cockburn responded with a run of their own to level things up. From there, it became a battle of effort and execution, where every possession mattered.
What set us apart was our second-half defense. We played with control, stopped reaching, and rotated with purpose to force tough looks. Our closeouts were sharp, our positioning was connected, and we contested every pass and shot with intent.
Offensively, we stayed aggressive and kept attacking the paint, taking advantage of Cockburn’s foul trouble. While we left points behind at the line, the intent to apply pressure and play through contact was clear. In a game where momentum was hard to find, our ability to stay focused and adapt to the physicality got us over the line.

Cara Woodgate – Cara delivered a standout performance, leading the team with 23 points at 54% shooting. She was relentless around the rim, earning 16 free throw attempts through sheer effort and physicality. Her presence inside helped shift momentum, and she added 7 rebounds and 2 blocks to cap off a huge game on both ends. A tough, composed, and impactful performance. Great work superstar!
Honourable mentions: Dani made great reads under pressure and knocked down key free throws late to help seal the win. Emily was massive on the defensive end, finishing with 6 blocks and 19 rebounds!! A huge anchor in our second-half lift. Both played crucial roles in a hard-fought team effort.

We travelled to Arena Joondalup to face the ladder-leading Wolves, aiming to bring pressure defence, protect the paint and stay composed on offence. The girls started strong, executing well in the first quarter to take a 9–6 lead.
The second term was consistent, but our offensive movement stalled. We created chances through solid defence but couldn’t convert, heading into half-time down 20–18. The third quarter was an arm wrestle, with our girls matching the Wolves for effort. Unfortunately, a late lapse allowed 8 unanswered points, and we trailed by 5 at the final break.
In the last quarter, a series of foul calls swung the momentum. Frustration crept in, and we couldn’t regain our rhythm, with the Wolves capitalising late to stretch the margin.
The scoreboard didn’t reflect how close the contest was for most of the game. The girls gave great effort, especially early, but we need to find consistency across all four quarters. This group has the talent and potential to do something special — now it’s about putting it together from start to finish.

Sandra Chan led the way, top scoring with 10 points and attacking the basket with confidence. Her ability to step up in big moments kept the pressure on and lifted the team when it mattered most. Eliza Prevett was again among the top contributors, while Zara Kwiatkowski brought her trademark intensity on both ends, putting her body on the line for the team. Ruby Chang was a defensive powerhouse, with her relentless backcourt pressure forcing key turnovers that changed the game’s momentum. This week saw us start a little messy but they quickly found their groove and got to work. We have been focusing a lot on spacing and shot choice the last few weeks which the girls are starting to implement well. They continue to rebound well at both ends and defend strong forcing errors from the opposition. All the girls played such a great game and build great chemistry and trust in each other.

Jaslin – Jaslin has a never say die attitude and is like an energiser bunny on the court, she doesn’t stop and is all hustle. Her efforts getting back quickly in defence often stops the fast breaks and is great at getting a sneaky steal.

Definitely a game of two halves. The focus for this week was to play disciplined basketball and we were very short of that in the first half resulting in us being down 40-18 at half time. A half time vent of frustration from me and a renewed game plan saw us claw back the lead slightly in the third with some disciplined basketball. The fourth quarter was probably the best we have played all season clawing back a 24-point lead to be within 4 points! Inspiring defense, crisp passing and Alex making multiple strong drives were highlights. I’m sure the boys will not let the game get out to that margin any time soon and I think today’s game was a turning point in our season.
This week saw all 10 players making their own impact in some, with the bench 5 kick starting our come back and the starters taking it from there in the 4th.

This week’s player of the round is a joint one. Alex was hard to ignore as he played with energy on both ends as part of our comeback. This week I am also awarding it to Felix who gave consistent energy on the glass and was composed with the ball in his hands when put under pressure. After a frustrating game for him last week, he trained hard and really showed some resilience this week. Well done Alex and Felix!

We had our first loss and my lord what a loss it was!!! The atmosphere was brilliant from both sides, Warwick coach Xavier and his players played an excellent game and so did our boys. It was loud both benches were raising the volume every time someone scored or forced a turnover. All in a good clean spirit of the game. The Refs were very balanced and it was overall a perfectly call game from both refs so credit to how they controlled the entire game from start to finish.
No team led by more then 5 if I’m correct, and it was back and forth right down to the last 40sec with us having a 2pt lead but turning the ball over mid court for Warwick to tie and head into overtime. Same thing again in overtime as we went back and forth but found ourselves down 3 with 26sec left and 1.1sec left from a dead ball play and unable to secure a second overtime.
A Great game, Austin with another superb double 14pts and 10 rebounds was our standout for the game. Kian and Brodie battled hard all game against their wing/bigs down low and even though the reb don’t show up there was a lot of chaos and loose ball.
A good result still, a loss that was needed and couldn’t have asked for a better way to lose and learn.

A double player of the round this week. Austin had a solid 12pts 10reb 5 blocks on 55.6%FG, he has been a solid contributor all season and his maturity has grown game to game and I’m so glad I finally get to coach him this season. Kobe with a 14pt 3Reb 3Asst 2 Steals with 3/9 3pt, knowing a lot of the Warwick boys in the age group because of his basketball program at Woodvale and leading the boys in the school team it was nice to see them comfort him at the end and it came to no surprise that final play they smothered him knowing the numerous game winning 3s he’s made at school, and still he made the right pass without hesitation is a sign of his maturity at this young age.

We played a solid all round game this week with plenty of room to improve. Everyone chipping in where they could, getting stops in the front court leading to easy transition baskets. Our bigs Issac, James and Lukas were huge this week against a smaller hills team, all getting into double figures with multiple steals and blocks between them.

We had an all round great team performance this week, but James really stepped up and had his best performance of the season so far. Scoring 15 points, minimum fouls, playing fantastic defence under the rim and always looking for his team mates. The scoreboard may not reflect the true competitiveness of this game; we were much closer than it suggested.
Unfortunately, we turned the ball over too many times, totaling 45 turnovers, which limited our possessions and our ability to impact on the game. We had one of our better shooting weeks but with only 93 possessions to their 115 we were always working against the wave.
We made multiple runs to close the gap, but 2-3 successive turnovers time after time killed any momentum. Despite this, we managed to match the opponent in rebounds, losing by only one, which I challenged the girls to achieve so that is rather pleasing.
Olivia stood out, scoring 27 points, demonstrating excellent shooting, particularly from three-point range. (5/8) Matilda as always anchors our defence and this shows as she had the only positive plus minus for team this week +11

Despite only playing 14 minutes off the bench this week, Charlotte made a notable impact, contributing 11 points and 6 rebounds with just one turnover. She is starting to warm up to her new role and is gradually buying into the team culture. It’s truly pleasing to see Charlotte smiling again and enjoying her basketball.

Round 7 pitted us against the Cockburn Cougars team that toppled the ladder-leaders the week prior. Our Suns came out ready for the fight. From the outset it was evident we were up for it. Though it took us a while to get on the scoreboard, from the first whistle our trademark defence stifled the Cougar’s ability to get into their offence. Eventually we found our offensive flow. Passing, player movement and unselfish play had us operating like a well-oiled machine. We found the collective scoring punch we’ve been working towards all season. By the end of the first half, we’d only allowed the opposition to score 12 points. Our defence has been our strength all season and it helped us to another win this week.
Our girls’ connectivity on D is impressive. We’ve now faced every team in our league and held all but of them to their lowest scoring total of the season. It shows what we can do as a team when apply our unwavering effort to work with a common goal. The season’s ongoing challenge is to apply our offensive principles to find our advantage for one-another. Sunday’s game was a big leap forward towards achieving this goal.

Chelsea Parker: after a strong start to the season, Chelsea has cemented her role as a vocal leader at both ends of the floor, demonstrating to her team-mates the fight required to get the job done. Her game this week was an outstanding display of this dogged determination and fighting spirit. Chelsea battled for space in the post, snatched away loose balls, ripped down contested rebounds and consistently made the smart team play. Her efforts at both ends of the floor were inspirational and an example of can be achieved every game with a positive and aggressive mindset. Amazing work, Chelsea.

And although we had 3 of our regular players unavailable, it was a great opportunity for the other players to step up. Facing the undefeated division leaders is never an easy task, but we delivered our most combative performance to date.
The Senators opened with intense full-court pressure, but we responded well, breaking through their press and generating multiple lay-up opportunities. Unfortunately, we struggled to capitalise, and the first quarter ended evenly at 17–17 and finishing at the half-point down 42-33
The biggest challenge for us was in the paint. Our inability to contain their front-court led to 16 offensive rebounds and too many second-chance points.
Ryker Phillips once again set the tone with a strong all-around performance with 16 points, 5 steals, and 5 rebounds. He was well supported by Raymond Tafira, who added 13 points and 5 steals, while Llafton Muller came off the bench with great energy, finishing with 17 points. Kieran Dunn also showed flashes of his shooting potential with 8 points. Despite being outsized in the front-court, Amani Kongawoin stood tall, collecting 3 blocks and 8 rebounds in a gritty effort inside.
Next week, we travel to Mandurah to take on the Magic; a team just as capable as us of toppling any ladder leader. We’re up for the challenge and looking forward to another hard-fought battle.

This week’s standout performer was Llafton Muller, who delivered one of his most efficient offensive games of the season. Coming off the bench, Llafton provided a much-needed spark, shooting with confidence and composure. In the first half, he went 1-for-2 from inside the arc and hit 2 of his 3 midrange attempts. He carried that momentum into the second half, where he knocked down 3 of 4 two-point shots and connected on 1 of 2 from beyond the arc. He finished the game with an impressive 17 points, playing with poise and purpose. Well done, Llafton…

Strong start to the game keeping top of the table Redbacks to 25 points in the first half allowing us to build a handy 14pt lead. Unfortunately in the second half the Redbacks showed why they are on top of the ladder as we were unable to contain them off the dribble and our offence stalled in the final quarter. A strong defensive effort in the first half showed we are more than capable of matching it with the best teams in the competition, we just need to sustain that effort over four quarters.

Asten Lund – Asten was active on the offensive end scoring a game high 32 points. Asten’s ability to drive and finish strongly, while also being able to knock down the 3 ball made him tough to guard. Some strong offensive rebounds and put backs capped off his all-round offensive effort.

Another first quarter where we give the opposition a head start. This week it was 23-12 at quarter time. If someone can tell me how we fix that I will be a happy coach.
After quarter time we started to play our brand of basketball – high pressure and pushing the ball up the court with pace. When we play our brand of basketball we are consistently scoring 20+ points a quarter which is where we want to be. The effort from all the boys today was extremely pleasing.
What was also pleasing is that we took what we were practicing at training and brought it to the game. When we swing quickly out of the corner to the weak side, so many holes were opening up in the defense. Our help defense team was an improvement on recent weeks as well.
Player of the game
Jermaine DeSilva gets the player of the game this week. With our starting centre getting in to early foul trouble we went to Jermaine to hold down the fort and he delivered for us. He also chipped in with 12 points
Edzon led the way on the scoreboard for us with 15, including the game sealing layup with about 10 seconds left on the clock to put us up by 5. Tommy had a great defensive game for us while scoring 12, Lukah had 11 and Marcus 10 to round it out.

After getting close to the top side Perry Lakes last week, we faced the newly crowned top team, Lakeside, who were also undefeated. Lakeside struggled against our defensive strategies as we presented several zones & team-based schemes to counter our height disadvantage. Our focus was maintaining a defensive mindset, which was effective, keeping them to their lowest score of the season (45 points). This is a team that has scored 130, 97, & other big totals! Despite our strong defense, we lost by two points, with a heartbreaking missed opportunity in the final possession. The loss was due to one clear factor: poor ball management. On the bright side, our starting unit (Kyan, Will, Adam, Sam & Billy) did an excellent job of setting the tone, winning our first opening period of the season. Overall, I’m proud that the group followed our defensive structures & worked together. Reuben had a standout performance & Atticus continued to fight hard, setting the table for Team-mates. It’s becoming our modus-operandi to rattle top teams & mess up their points for/ against percentage, but I don’t want that to be the story of our season. Our trend data is great & if it continues that way, I expect positive returns for the players who deserve it.

This week’s player of the round goes to Adam, who played huge minutes on Sunday. Adam pulled in 8 rebounds & contributed 6 points, but he stood out due to his work ethic, improved court spacing & being an offensive threat. Adam has a great attitude & is beginning to read the game better, showing his overall growth. His confidence & improved court awareness were important factors in his performance on Sunday. It’s clear he’s developing each week, with this being one of his many starts in the starting five. Importantly, as one of the press breaking options, Adam only had one turnover – meaning he’s performing his role as an unlikely press release very well. Great game Adam.

While the final score didn’t go our way, I was incredibly proud of how the girls responded after last week’s tough loss. They came out with a positive mindset and moved the ball well, staying within just two points at quarter-time. Although the game slipped away in the second and third quarters, it was great to see them finish strong and keep competing until the end. I couldn’t separate the sisters this week—Izzy Swann and Charlotte Swann are our co-players of the round.
Izzy delivered her most complete performance yet, relentlessly attacking the basket and keeping the Eagles’ defence on the back foot. She continues to grow as a point guard, showing improved awareness of when to involve her teammates and when to look for her own shot. Izzy finished with 17 points, leading the team in scoring.
Charlotte earned her first start of the season and rose to the occasion with her best game so far. Her impact went beyond the stat sheet, as her high intensity and energy, set the tone for the team from the opening tip. Well done girls!

A trend with our team is we often are slow to start and forever chasing our tails. Positives are we stuck with it and played a suns like 3rd quarter.
Unfortunately the game was too far gone!
Notable mentions. Marley Sam a normal 40 piece, kid just continues to do his thing. Levi Hewitt – slowly getting back into his grove offensively shows promise with his versatility.

As a team we failed to execute the scout and didn’t give our opponents the respect they deserved, we as a team looked at their win/loss record and assumed we would just turn up and the result would just happen, as such we were humbled on the day by a more desperate team.
Positives for the day:
4 players in double figure scoring, with another 2 players on 8.
42 bench points is ELITE.
Finished the last 3.5 minutes of the game with only 4 players and were still only 6 points down, the extra player on the offensive end was hard to overcome.

This weeks honorable mentions: Kobe Seubert: Has had a really consistent number of weeks and is unlucky not to be this weeks player of the game.
Odin Amundsen: Odin is really starting to understand his role within the team and impacts the floor on both ends, fearless rebounder and has a high work rate across the whole game.
This weeks player of the game is Sam De Guzman, Sam has been slowly building over the last couple of weeks and with an injury to Anthony Flores has really stepped forward to take on more responsibility and lead the team, he sets the pace of our offensive game, and is disruptive on the defensive end.

Despite missing three players, the team came out strong, dominating Perry Lakes defensively and converting stops into scoring opportunities. A 14-0 run closed the first quarter, but Perry Lakes fought back with tough defense in the second, forcing rushed offensive decisions and turnovers. At halftime, the lead was down to 4 points.
The second half saw a disciplined response—locked-in transition defense and structured offensive play dried up Perry Lakes’ scoring, holding them to just 19 second-half points. Rebounding remains a challenge, and turnovers were unusually high, but the team’s defensive pressure shined with 25 steals and 13 blocks.
Development players stepped up big time this week —Lucas C’s standout defence and Tobie’s hustle and clutch shooting energized the squad. His back-to-back threes to close the first quarter had the bench and parents roaring. A strong team effort kept things on par for the season.

Player of the game however this week was Jackson. With so many outs all lot of the team played in different roles this week, Jackson ran the point for big minutes this week and his ability to manage the pace of the game and lead from the front were highly valued. Jackson lit up the court in the fourth quarter going at 80% from the field to finish with 10 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals and 2 assists. Massive game from Jackson who made a huge difference this week!

This week was our best defensive effort where we restricted our opponent to the lowest score against us . There was also a lot more communication during the game with the boys on court.

Tom Hanekamp. Tom had a strong performance this week on both ends of the court where he blocked shots and was a intimidating presence in the middle on defence and also ran the pick and roll well and had a strong post presence scoring 15 points for the game

The team delivered one of its most consistent 4 quarter of the season, arguably our best showing so far.
We saw more consistency executing the fundamentals and our structured play, reflecting the hard work put in at training. This allowed us to stay right on Warwick’s heels throughout the game.
While moments of individual play still surface, we’re continuing to hold ourselves and each other accountable to the process and the development plan we’ve committed to this season.
It was a tightly contested match that could’ve gone either way, and once again, it was extremely encouraging to see the whole team step up and rally together.
A big shout out to Charlie Osenton for stepping in last minute as we found ourselves 3 players down.
Player of the game
Although we had some big scorers on Sunday, who were incredible, didn’t give up and kept the score line close, I’d like to give players of the round to those who really stepped up and worked hard, especially defensively. They secured some important rebounds, hassled and disrupted Warwicks offence, never complained, kept fighting and were positive the entire game whether on the bench or on the court. They were Jorja, Emily and Kira.
Well done to all teams and we look forward to round 8!
