Players of the Round:
Mariska Breadsell (U14 Girls 1) – Player of the Game goes to Mariska, who stepped into a huge role for us and never stopped competing all game long. Mariska finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists while carrying a lot of offensive creation responsibility throughout the game. Although it wasn’t a perfect performance, what stood out most was her focus and resilience, it hasn’t always been this way for the first 4 or 5 games of the season but in the last couple, she’s just exercised coaches game plan perfectly. A really important growth game and one she should be very proud of.
Lukah Dombrowsky (U18 Boys Team 3) – A dominant performance from Lukah, who controlled the game on both ends with aggression, intent, and outstanding work rate.
Lukah finished with 28 points on 14/24 shooting, complemented by 15 rebounds (6 offensive) and 5 steals. His ability to attack the rim, get to the front of the contest, and consistently compete on the glass gave the team a huge lift throughout.
What has been most impressive is Lukah’s continued growth. His reads, aggression, and willingness to impact the game in multiple ways have improved significantly, and this performance was a strong reflection of that development. Special mentions to Ashton, Adrian and Raff who also had fantastic games this week.

Won against Mandurah Magic (42 – 35)
Coaches Notes
This week, the game rattled us back to our bad habits. With everything stacked against us we are definitely fighting an uphill battle. To the girls credit they stayed ahead the whole duration of the game, keeping their head up when times got close and tough. Our composure didn’t follow us down to Mandurah but that’s okay, gives us something to work on.
We’ve only lost one game and that was to Mandurah in round 1, so to win to them today felt good as a team. Back to training this week to kick all the nerves out for a good game against Rockingham.
Player of the game
Last week, I gave two girls a mission to try and be more composed on the basketball court for this Mandurah game and they excelled with it. This particular girl came on and scored an easy bucket within the first minute of being on court! That’s a massive improvement to the first half of the season and we could not be prouder of the player she’s growing into. Not only was she strong offensively, she was a pocket rocket on defence forcing turn overs and jump balls. Chloe Marsh definitely deserves it this week! She gives her all at both the game and in training and we love to see it.

Won against Hills Raiders (23 – 20)
Coaches notes
Like everyone involved, im so proud of the girls, what a hard fought win. It was a true tussle between the two teams. Aside from size (they were generally bigger than us once again), we were equally matched across the court, however it was our defensive pressure, offensive patience and team work that got the job done this week. We re-grouped during the week and came out all guns blazing, well done girls!
Player of the game
Our player of the round this week goes to Gemma Ooi. Every girl had a personal focus this week. I asked that Gemma showed me some real grit and determination this week. Although Gemma played less minutes than id normally like, she fought hard really bringing that focus to the forefront. Well done Gemma! Lets keep building on it.

Coaches notes
The girls came up against a much older and more experienced team today, but they battled hard right until the final buzzer. Their effort, determination, and never-give-up attitude were outstanding.
As we continue to develop, we need to focus on getting our heads up when bringing the ball up the court and looking for that next pass. Finding open teammates earlier will help us create more scoring opportunities and turn good possessions into points.
We’ll keep working hard at training, just as we do every week, and continue building our skills and confidence. Proud of the fight and commitment the girls showed.

Coaches notes
We faced this Binar team in grading, so going into this game we knew we had our work cut out for us.
Both teams were evenly matched through all 4 quarters and the game could have really gone either way.
Our boys had some great moments, sharing the ball, creating scoring opportunities and taking care of rebounds but unfortunately, Binars defensive intensity forced us to turn the ball over more than we would have liked.
Player of the game
Darcy was an unstoppable force and deserves a mention. Binar had no answer to his dominance on the offensive end, but player of the game this week goes to Subeg. Subeg always brings great energy and intensity to the game but this week his on ball defence was focused, he ran the lanes with purpose and scored some important baskets at crucial times in the game.

Coaches notes
The boys faced a tough challenge this week against a strong opposition that applied aggressive defensive pressure throughout the game. Despite this, our young group showed great determination, effort, and resilience from the start. Teamwork was a key strength. The boys worked hard to support each other on both ends of the court, pushing up on the ball defensively and creating opportunities offensively. Their willingness to compete and work together kept them in the contest against a physically strong opponent. The final quarter proved challenging as the pressure began to take effect. The boys became a little rushed, and our teamwork briefly broke down, allowing the opposition to gain momentum and extend their lead. While the result wasn’t what we hoped for, there were many positives to take away. The team has made excellent progress since the start of the season. Their confidence, skills, and understanding of the game continue to improve each week, and they will continue to grow from strength to strength.

Won against Willetton Tigers (45 – 43)
Coaches notes
A really gritty win against Willetton. It certainly wasn’t perfect, but the fight, resilience and defensive effort from this group was elite. This team beat us 57-36 in round 1 so turn it around was extra pleasing. Getting some of our players back through injury allowed a bit more rest and it helped down the stretch.
Defensively, the girls were elite all game long, holding them to under 20% effective fg shooting while having 11 blocks and consistently protecting the paint. Our half-court defence and pressure created a lot of chaos and forced tough shots. Offensively we showed some really positive signs as well, especially in transition and around the rim, but our turnovers again hurt badly. We finished with 38 turnovers which is simply too many, and at times we made life difficult for ourselves after creating good advantages. Rebounding also continues to be an area we must improve. Allowing 37 offensive rebs meant we were often defending multiple shots in the same possession, which becomes exhausting, and they rebounded 60% of their own shots.
Despite all of that, I’m incredibly proud of the girls. Winning ugly is still winning, and today showed the toughness, resilience and competitiveness this group is beginning to build.

Won against Mandurah Magic (68 – 60)
Coaches Notes
Another win in the books for our U14 girls, meaning we are still undefeated!! Once again, we showed that our defence is our greatest asset, applying relentless pressure and making life difficult for our opponents all game long.
We came out strong in the first quarter and backed it up with another fantastic third quarter, setting the tone with our intensity and teamwork. While we went through a patch of silly turnovers that allowed the opposition to stay within reach, it provided a valuable opportunity to build our resilience, regroup, and find a way to pull away for the win.
One of the best things about this team is that everyone contributes in more than one way. Whether it’s scoring, defending, rebounding, hustling for loose balls, or encouraging teammates, every player plays an important role in our success. It’s awesome to see so many players making an impact across all areas of the game. Well done girls!
Player of the Game
Player of the Round goes to Judeena Piratheepan for an outstanding all-round performance! Judeena gave every possession 110%. Her defence was the best we’ve seen from her all season. She stayed locked in on the ball at all times, and whenever an opponent managed to get past her, she worked hard to sprint back in front. Her impact didn’t stop there. Judeena was active on the boards and on the offensive end, she showed off some fancy moves and attacked with confidence, finishing with a season high 6 points. This was a complete performance built on effort, determination, and a willingness to do all the little things that help a team win. Fantastic game Judeena!

Won against Rockingham Flames (42 – 32)
Coaches notes
Three players down due to illness left us a bit short on rotations but the girls who played all stepped up collectively. The game was quite physical but the girls matched Rockingham’s intensity for the whole 4 quarters. Our defence was the highlight, pressing full court, creating turnovers and forcing bad shots for the opposition which led to good opportunities for us offensively on the break. Both our half court offence and defence was exceptional with the girls moving the ball to create good looks while also shutting down much of Rockingham’s offence. Really proud of the way the girls dug in and gave their all to get the win.
Player of the game
Adele Szito. Adele did all the little things right which often go unnoticed. She played 3 different spots in our press and didn’t look out of place. She protected the basket well when she had to then followed up with the rebounds. She also got into the passing lanes tipping passes and creating turnovers. She found herself in the right spot on offence getting good shot opportunities and offensive rebounds.

Coaches notes
A close game this week that we were unfortunately unable to close out. Some defensive lapses in the first quarter allowed our opponents an 11-point lead at the at the end of the first quarter. We fought back in the next 2 quarters, winning both with increased defensive intensity and some fantastic link up play in transition, pushing the ball up the through passing with a purpose of attacking the basket. Our opponents pressured the ball all the way up the floor and when we decided to protect it better and be more physical off it, great things happened and in particular forced 4 straight turnovers for scores during a third quarter flurry which saw us keeping them to only 9 points which was only the second time keeping a team under 10 for a quarter this season. In the fourth quarter, Perry lakes number 8 made some tough plays that gave them more opportunities to score and ultimately ended our fightback.
I am happy with our improvement in recent weeks with several players being out and our commitment to physicality and defense. It is great to see improvement in our basketball IQ which will put us in a great position for the back half of the season.
Player of the game
Player of the round this week was a toss-up between a number of players who shined. Jett had an outstanding game on both ends after being well for a couple of weeks, particularly his passing and finishing. Ashton played well on the boards and kicked the ball up for transition opportunities and Xander gave his all, taking the ball to the rack against bigger players and making good decisions with the ball. However, Kirath is the player of the round winner. A model of consistency and effort each game, he shone on both ends finishing with 9 points, an impressive 5 rebounds for a point guard, 2 assists and 4 steals! Well done, Kirath

We played a solid game. Our defence coverage was decent and we kept good pressure on the ball movement and also covered the keyway. We struggled to keep their big off the boards who punished us with the rebounds and second chance put backs to score 24pts. This week our starting point guard Arona Gopolang was also out with an ankle injury.
Offensively we finished well when we got the ball clear in transition. And we also had good player and ball movement in the half court. Need to clean up our passing both on the inbound, and also the first pass after breaking the press needs to be at a higher percentage. We are not creating smart spacing to ensure we are opening good passing lanes and an early advantage. We have been competitive with all the teams at the top of the ladder. Need to improve with our rebounding and a few less turnovers to put us in winning position. Just a few small adjustments and we can turn these into W’s.
Congrats to Jack Tucker who top scored with 19pts in his 50th WABL game.
Player of the Game
The whole team provided a great contribution to the game which was a real positive. And while Jack Tucker dropped 19pts, the Player of the Game was Emmanuel Osei-Bonsu who did a lot of the heavy lifting for the team at both ends of the court. Won against Joondalup Wolves (59 – 52)
Coaches notes
This week we played the top of the ladder Wolves and knew it was going to be loud, physical and that every point would need to be earned. The challenge for the group was to block out the noise, stay calm and trust our team concepts. Every time we went on a run, Wolves came straight back and we could not quite pull away. Heading into the 4th quarter up by 1, it was time to test our nerve. Wolves came at us hard, but we responded by lifting their defensive pressure, forcing panic mistakes and then capitalising on the extra possessions with calm, connected offense. We were able to take control down the stretch, and I was really impressed with the composure shown in moments where we may have faltered in the past.
A special shout out to our very own Suns NBL1 superstar Emma Strelein for jumping in as assistant coach this week, sharing her wisdom with the girls and helping us navigate a tough game. Your help made all the difference and is appreciated. A tough, well-earned win against a quality opponent.
Player of the Game
This week Indi Billett and Bel Wood share the honours. Indi is our glue player. She does the work every week that often goes uncredited, but always sets her teammates up for success. This week her decision making was next level. She spaced the floor, took the right shots, made the right passes and stayed composed down the stretch. Bel was huge again, leading from the front with 12 points, 12 rebounds, 4 steals and 6 deflections. Her toughness, leadership and ability to steady the group were massive in a tight game.
Honourable mentions to Vicky with 11 points, 26 rebounds and 4 blocks, and Skylar with 5 assists, 4 steals and a buzzer beater 3 to end the 3rd!

Loss against Cockburn Cougars (59 – 68)
Coaches notes
In a tough scrappy game, possession was the key. We were able to open up an early lead on the Cougars, but a turnover riddled second quarter let Cockburn gain control of the game at the half. Foul trouble and injuries slowed down our aggressive play and had us changing tact in the final period.
These tough games are just what we need show us opportunities to improve. We now reflect on our efforts and the execution of our game plan, using it to guide us in where to put the work in for the second half of the season. One thing is for certain, we always look better when we’re connected and play as a team.
Player of the game
Sonja Heyman. Sonja is a tough and reliable force who we look to as a steadying presence. In a difficult game, Sonja was our rudder, leading us with her relentless ball pressure, rebounding efforts and smart play. Ever versatile, her Swiss army knife nature means she can play point guard or defend the opponent’s 5. This week, we needed Sonja to fill those gaps and play many roles. An amazing all-round game, Sonja!

Won against East Perth Eagles (76 – 34)
Coaches notes
This week we came away with a great win and, more importantly, saw the rewards of believing in and trusting our system. The girls did an excellent job controlling our back court and showed a much better understanding of how we want to move the ball up the floor. We discovered the value of using our wings to push the ball into the front court, which helped us create better spacing, improve our ball movement and generate quality scoring opportunities.
One of the biggest differences in the second half was our ability to value our rebounds. By securing the ball and making good decisions with our possessions, we were able to limit the opposition’s opportunities and build momentum. As the game wore on, this allowed us to create separation on the scoreboard and eventually pull away from the Eagles. It was a fantastic team performance and a great confidence-boosting win for the group. The girls’ commitment to the system, willingness to learn and trust in each other continue to drive our improvement and were on full display throughout the game.
Player of the Game
Chloe Burley. Chloe is an incredibly hard worker who sets very high standards for herself and is always looking for ways to improve her game and contribute to the team. We saw an outstanding second-half performance from Chloe, where she played a key role in many of our forward transitions. Her ability to move the ball to the wings, continue her run and then receive it back to finish strongly in the paint was a major factor in our offensive success. Chloe’s willingness to work hard both with and without the ball created numerous scoring opportunities and helped drive the team to a great win.

It was good to get a win on the board with this game and the girls deserved the victory. A number of the team had been sick during the week so we were playing a little under our usual zippy speed. It was really pleasing to see the team effort and we saw some real growth in a number of our players. The girls have a great team dynamic and work well for one another. We will continue to work on finding the right shots to put greater scoreboard pressure on our opponents.
Player of the game
Kat was player of the game for us this week. She’s a very strong contributor in our team and this week scored 10 points in her strongest offensive game to date. She was picking the right lanes to drive and her defence was excellent. She plays hard at both ends and is a steady leader on the court.

Won against Mandurah Magic (82 – 71)
Coaches Notes
The game result doesn’t reflect how competitive Mandurah were, they controlled and lead for 3 1/2 quarters of this game whilst being undermanned.
The main takeaway for our team was the importance of mindset, turning up to games ready to compete, the main positives for our team were the defensive effort to hold a team to 71 points and the resilience it took to wrestle control of that game back and get it on our terms for the last 5 minutes of the game and walk away with a win.
Player of the game
Honorable mentions this week go to: Joshua Mahama and Lucas Aird, their individual defensive efforts on the two most dangerous players were influential in ensuring that they were inefficient in getting their points averages, their ability to disrupt early offence was critical.
Jackson McClure has been our most consistent player this season and another real workman like game from him.
Odin Amundsen was our player of the round for consecutive weeks, he really kept us in touch throughout the game and he figured out the puzzle quicker than most in how he was going to create advantage plays for our team.

Loss against Perth Redbacks (83 – 100)
Coaches Notes
From a team perspective, one of the biggest positives was the effort and resilience the group showed despite a challenging few weeks. Sunday’s 83-100 loss was no exception, but the boys remained competitive throughout and never stopped fighting.
A major highlight was the way the team rallied together to erase a 15-point deficit and level the game late in the second quarter. That showed great character, determination, and belief in each other. Unfortunately, a series of turnovers and a low shooting percentage allowed Redbacks to regain momentum midway through the third quarter.
With only eight players available, we eventually ran out of legs, but there were plenty of positive patches where the boys played some really good basketball. Their effort, commitment, and willingness to keep competing until the final siren were outstanding and are definitely things we can build on moving forward.
Player of the game
Prince Balila. Prince had a great game this week, finishing with 12 points and grabbing a heap of rebounds. While those numbers were impressive, what stood out most was his decision-making, which is something we’ve been focusing on over the last few weeks. He made good choices with the ball, played for his teammates, and showed real improvement in an area we’ve been working hard on. It’s great to see that hard work paying off. Awesome effort, Prince. Won against Willetton Tigers (89 – 74)
Coaches notes
A strong win for our U18.3s this week, defeating Willetton 89–74 in a game built on relentless pressure and dominant inside play.
The group forced 30 turnovers and created a significant possession advantage throughout the game, with defensive pressure again proving to be a key factor in the result. Offensively, the team showed excellent intent in attacking the paint, with strong performances inside helping generate quality scoring opportunities despite a tough shooting night from the perimeter.
After a slow start, the group responded well in the second half, lifting their intensity and showing the ability to adjust within the game. The fourth quarter was particularly pleasing, with the team demonstrating excellent discipline and composure to close out the contest strongly.
Areas for continued improvement include finishing defensive possessions more consistently, particularly limiting second-chance opportunities, and maintaining the level of discipline shown in the fourth quarter across the full game. Despite this, the win showed clear progress in how the group is connecting offensively and competing on both ends.
A solid result with plenty of positives and clear areas to keep building on.
Player of the game
A dominant performance from Lukah Dombrowsky, who controlled the game on both ends with aggression, intent, and outstanding work rate.
Lukah finished with 28 points on 14/24 shooting, complemented by 15 rebounds (6 offensive) and 5 steals. His ability to attack the rim, get to the front of the contest, and consistently compete on the glass gave the team a huge lift throughout.

What a difference a week makes, after going down previous week by 1pt to Rockingham we manage to take out a close 1pt win against the undefeated Hawks who had an average of 100pts per game as well as winning average margin of 20. Keeping team to low scoring has become our identity as a team and it all starts from the aggressive defensive ends from all our players.
We are blessed to have 3 very dynamic guards who are different in their own ways but all 3 have really shown up on the defensive end first and the offense will come. Deacon and Sam had another physical tough day in the office with both holding their own in the paint against some very big hawks boys.
A game where we had leads of 8 follow by deficit of 8 late in the 3rd, we have shown our growth by learning how to keep games close, not to panic and to trust each other. We executed down the stretch, and corrected almost all of our mistakes from previous week, still some tinkering but a huge step in understanding situational basketball.
Having Lawrence back on the bench had huge impact on the players positively always the calming voice in a tsunami storm. A lot of positives, and we are very proud of how these young men have responded after a very tough previous week.
Player of the game
Link had alot of chips riding on this game. It’s been a very challenging couple of weeks for Link and myself, we’ve talked we’ve argued, I’ve demanded more from him on the defensive end, to be a DOG, to be more physical then he’s ever had. It hasn’t been easy for him, non confrontational player, against a crazy confrontational challenging coach. But this game.. he really really showed how bad he wanted it and it all started from the defensive side of the ball until he was gassed and had to ask to come off. Massive growth and deserves my nomination for player of the round.
Special mention to Deacs Omid Arjun Razjhan Sam for taking alot of heat from me and still performing to high standards.
