Players of the Round:
Chelsey Francis. (U16 Girls 2) – Cee Cee came out with a steely mindset and executed her role in crucial moments of a tough game. Her improved control and decision making are a product dedication to her development. Cee Cee was outstanding in defence and poised with the ball. A highlight was when she was fouled on a 3-point shot, Cee Cee swished 3 consecutive free-throws. Amazing effort, Cee Cee.
Levi Grey (U12 Boys Team 1) – Levi’s scoring ability was elite this week, finishing with a game-high 40 points. He scored at all three levels, getting to the free-throw line, attacking the basket, and knocking down a season-high six three-pointers. What made his performance even more impressive was that it was all fuelled by his defensive intensity. Levi took it upon himself to lead from the front on the defensive end, setting the tone for the entire team. His energy, effort, and commitment inspired the rest of the boys to lift their defensive pressure and compete at a higher level. Great work, Levi. Keep leading by example and bringing that same intensity every week.

Another win for the books. The girls are proving to be consistently strong in transition which makes coach very happy. Overall, we are much more composed on offence, with better patience and making sure we choose the right shot 9 times out of 10. We are starting to score more points on the board as we work on this as a team. I can’t wait to see how the scoring will look for the rest of the season as we start to tackle and cancel tricky habits and situations. A special shout out to Adley, you have made great improvements and your ability to both set up your team mates and score when necessary makes coach very proud. As well as to Izzy for a strong 19 points! All 10 of the girls should be proud of the game we played, but scoring isn’t everything, our defence is not something that is overlooked for us and we take pride in how strong it is! All 10 girls seem to be on the same page about intensity and it’s a good look for us. We’ll keep working on it and improving it. Keep going girls, you make coach proud every week.
Player of the game
Hyuna Kim! Hyuna was strong and confident this week. She had a solid 12 points! When Hyuna is on the court, we tend to score more because she has no fear in collecting the rebound and putting it back up. This week I started her on the court and she did not disappoint! Her natural calm energy led us to a 6-0 start in the first 3 minutes of the game. Setting the tone for the rest of the game. Not only that, Hyuna is a supportive team mate on the bench, she is always loud & cheering on the girls no matter who is on the floor. You’re a great asset to this team Hyuna!

Coaches notes
A tough game for the girls, with lots of learnings to come from it as a group. Lakeside is a polished team, sitting third on the ladder, with well rehearsed defensive and offensive structures. Their experience and pressure set them up from the beginning. With this being said, we still put up a fight. One of our strengths is linking passes down the court (an area that we actually beat them in). However under the ring we are still learning our craft, with opportunities missing (that’s fine, we managed to get shots up over tight defence), unfortunately these were out-rebounded (purely on height). We are going to regroup this week, broadening our fundamentals focus, and ensuring fun is at the forefront. Keep it up girls – you have the skills and potential, this first year was always going to be tough. You will be the “big team” in a year or two.
Player of the game
This weeks player of the round goes to Lily Anderson. Lily receives this weeks nomination not only for her tireless effort on Sunday, but also in recognition for her focus and effort at training over the past month or so. It’s fair to say that our group at times can get a little restless and distracted (we are a team of 8 and 9 year old’s after all), but Lily has recognised this and is making huge efforts to switch to basketball mode at training and gameday. With respect to Sunday, Lily played a tough brand of basketball, continually applying pressure, attempting to man-up quickly in transition, and providing screens for a team mates. Thank you for your efforts Lily, well deserved.

What a game — easily our best performance of the season so far!
The girls competed from start to finish, showing incredible determination, teamwork, and effort throughout the entire game. We were strong offensively and our defence was outstanding, putting constant pressure on the opposition and creating plenty of opportunities.
We finished with our highest score of the season, scoring 28 points!
Scorers:
Kayla – 12 points
Letarlya – 6 points
Nadia – 4 points
Ella – 2 points
Aparna – 2 points
Peyton – scored her first goal of the WABL season!
A special mention to Ivy, Indi, and Laura, who worked tirelessly on the defensive end and helped shut the opposition down with their relentless effort and energy.
The skill, basketball IQ, and teamwork shown by this group of 7- and 8-year-old girls continues to amaze us. They keep improving every week, and their commitment to learning and supporting one another is something to be proud of.
The future is bright for this team — we might just be watching some future Eastern Suns NBL1 players in action!
Well done, girls. Keep working hard and enjoying the journey!
Player of the game
Congratulations, Letarlya, on being named Player of the Round!
Your confidence on the basketball court continues to grow every game, and it’s fantastic to see. For such a young player, your understanding of positioning and court awareness is outstanding. You consistently put yourself in the right spots on both offence and defence, helping your team in every phase of the game. Your effort, consistency, and determination have been exceptional. Whether it’s making smart decisions with the ball, creating opportunities on offence, or working hard on defence, you give your best every time you step onto the court. Keep working hard, keep believing in yourself, and keep enjoying the game.

Coaches Notes
One of the biggest positives from this game was the way we played together and competed throughout the first half. A huge highlight was that we allowed zero offensive rebounds, which is an incredible achievement considering this has been an area we’ve struggled with at times this season. By controlling the defensive glass, we were able to take control of the game and limit Perry Lakes’ second-chance opportunities.
I also loved the composure the boys showed when Perry Lakes went on a run. Rather than rushing or panicking, we were able to slow the tempo, execute our sets, and regain control of the game. It’s a great sign of how much the group has matured since the start of the season. The boys are beginning to understand how to manage momentum swings and stay disciplined under pressure, which will be crucial as we continue to develop throughout the year.

Loss against Cockburn Cougars (43 – 46)
Coaches notes
This week, we had a tight game with Cockburn, the game was pretty even until the third quarter, where Cockburn got a bit of a lead on us, the other team had a very different style of play to what the boys were used to and this took us a bit by surprise, but the boys didn’t give up, my starting five had a really great game and played a lot of minutes it’s very much a testament to there drive, nobody seemed to be getting tired and they pushed so hard.
JT, Jax and Stephen kept up really great full court pressure working together to stop the other team bringing the ball down, while Darcy and Jonathan dropped back to take care of basket and the players that dropped back to for easy buckets. The boys worked very well together and had great flow for most of the game, nobody gave up or wanted to come off the court. The game was definitely umpired a bit loose and a lot of calls were getting left, which got a bit frustrating for us, but the boys didn’t let it get to them and kept playing hard.
Player of the game
Player of the game goes to two boys this week, they both had such good a good game I couldn’t separate them.
Darcy played a wicked game, he had to adjust how he played midway through the game and he really stepped up and adapted so fast.
And Jonathan who was also on fire, he ran such a hard game, even after a bit of a collision he was straight back on court fired up to play.
So proud of both these boys and it was well earned.

Another great effort from the boys this week! We came up against a fast-paced opposition, which pushed the tempo of the game and at times made things feel rushed and messy. These are valuable learning opportunities, and our next focus is on maintaining composure, controlling the pace, and playing the game on our terms—regardless of how fast the opposition wants to play.
Remember boys, it’s our game to control. When we stay calm, make smart decisions, and stick to what we’ve been working on, we play our best basketball. You continue to impress every week with your effort, attitude, and willingness to learn. Mastering this part of the game will take your basketball to another level again. Keep up the fantastic work, boys!
Player of the game
You boys continue to amaze me with the effort and improvement you show every week. This week’s Player of the Match is Alex. Alex’s growth has been outstanding, and this game highlighted just how important he is to our team. His ball movement, court vision, and decision-making were exceptional.Time and time again, he found the right pass, creating scoring opportunities before the defence could recover.
One of the biggest lessons in basketball is that success isn’t always about scoring points. Great players create opportunities for others, and Alex did exactly that this week. His unselfish play and team-first attitude helped drive our offence and made everyone around him better.

Coaches notes
The team showed great resilience and teamwork throughout the game, especially after losing Andrej to injury in the first quarter. Every player stepped up, contributing to a strong team performance and showing the positive culture that continues to grow within the group. The team’s improvement is evident each week. Defensively, they continue to get stronger, applying pressure and working together to slow the opposition. The defensive effort from the 1, 2 and 3 positions was particularly impressive, with players pushing up on the ball and limiting the opposition’s opportunities.
Offensively, the team showed good ball control, made smart decisions, and created multiple scoring opportunities through teamwork and patience. Their willingness to share the basketball and look for open teammates remains a key strength. The positive attitude and encouragement shown by all players was outstanding. The team continues to develop well in both offence and defense, and their teamwork is helping drive their success.
We wish Andrej a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the court soon.
Player of the game
Player of the Round goes to Blake Eneanya. Over the past two weeks, Blake’s development has been outstanding, seeing him return to his best form and continue to improve beyond it. He has been a consistent contributor on both defense and offence, bringing energy and focus to every game. Blake executes a perfect jump stop and shows excellent court awareness, knowing exactly when to pull up for a shot. This often leaves defenders moving past him and creates clear scoring opportunities. When attacking the basket, he demonstrates great teamwork and decision-making, kicking the ball back out to open teammates when double-teamed. A strong all-round performance and a well-deserved recognition.

This one hurt. We led for almost the entire game, but unfortunately a 3 min patch to start the 4th qtr cost us. With only 7 available players, the girls had already put in an enormous amount of effort and eventually fatigue caught up with us mentally and physically.
We turned the ball over 11 times in the final qtr alone after being incredibly tidy most of the game. The toughest part was many of those turnovers came in transition or near the basket. They put together a 14-0 run stretching from the end of the 3rd and start 4th. To the girls’ credit, they responded with seven straight of their own, but tired legs made it hard to fully claw back. Rebounding again told a story. We allowed 35 offensive rebounds, meaning Perth rebounded over half of their own missed shots and generated around 15 extra shot attempts. That’s incredibly difficult to defend for four quarters.
We were also without our little floor general, which meant everybody stepped into different roles. I honestly couldn’t be prouder of how the girls responded. It takes real mental fortitude to stay locked in for 32 minutes with limited rotations, and for most of the game they did that exceptionally well. Plenty to learn from, but plenty to be proud of too.
Player of the game
Today’s Player of the Game goes to Kaavya for her most physical and competitive performance of the season. She attacked loose balls, battled on the glass and consistently put herself in strong rebounding position throughout the game. Her energy, toughness and willingness to compete physically around the ball was a huge positive for us today she finished with our only
Positive +/- today showing the team competed/set up well in her minutes.
Special mentions to Eunice for another monster statistical performance with 22 points, 24 rebounds, 7 steals and 3 blocks, (mind blowing) and Sophie for her tireless two-way effort while taking on added point guard responsibilities.

Coaches Notes
The girls put together another strong performance this week, starting the game with great energy and setting the tone early. Our teamwork was outstanding, with everyone sharing the ball and creating opportunities for each other on both ends of the floor. A huge factor in our success was our dominance on the boards. Eilish, Jerayah, Judeena and Chloe were relentless with their rebounding, giving us extra possessions. Defensively, the team was locked in, holding them to just 8 points in the first half through great pressure, one of our main strengths.
While we controlled the game early, our second half wasn’t quite at the same level. We matched our opponents point for point in the third quarter and only won the final quarter by three points. It’s a good reminder that maintaining our intensity for four quarters is something we’ll continue to work on as the competition gets tougher. Despite that, it’s another win on the board and we head into Round 8 still undefeated. Next week brings a big challenge against a stronger Mandurah side, and we’ll need to bring our best basketball from start to finish. Well done girls!
Player of the Game
This week’s Player of the Game goes to Chloe for an incredibly smart and impactful performance at both ends of the court. Chloe got us rolling early, scoring our first basket of the game, and finished with 6 points while looking confident every time she touched the ball. While her offence was strong, it was Chloe’s defence that truly stood out. She seemed to be everywhere, intercepting pass after pass and creating countless turnovers for our team. Add in some cheeky steals, strong rebounding, and even a block, and it was a defensive masterpiece. A fantastic all-round performance and a very deserving Player of the Game. Well done, Chloe

Warwick are undefeated at the top of the ladder so it was always going to be a tough game. Girls started pretty well bringing the intensity and get a few scores from the pressure we applied. Fatigue set in and Warwick took control of the game from there. Outside of that, our defence continues to show improvement each week leading to some good looks on the transition. Despite being down the girls didn’t drop their heads and kept playing our brand of basketball. Lots of signs that the girls are developing and are heading in the right direction
Player of the game
Winter-Rose Berner. Winter-Rose’s efforts were outstanding. Constantly chasing back on the fastbreak and being our basket protector. We made the early trip north of the river on a foggy morning. This week we started the game with a bit more intensity on the defensive end and played ourselves into the game with some good ball movement that led to some quality looks at the basket. We matched them for a portion of the second quarter, but our opponents were extremely hot from the floor, seemingly knocking down every shot from everywhere even when we played solid defense and challenged the shots. I’m sure this team trains on the court we played on! This led to them opening up a sizeable margin in the third quarter and even with our best effort in the fourth we were unable to gain any advantage.
As mentioned, our ball movement and defense were solid but were not at the level of intensity needed to overcome such a formidable opponent that shot a very high clip. We are definitely showing signs of completely trusting one another and the positive energy was good from the bench for the entire game. On to next week!
Player of the game
Shout out to Freddy (AKA fourth quarter big body Brunson) for always bringing physicality and positive energy to the team and our big men who battled hard under the basket all game. Coaches notes
This week we had an early start with an 8am tip off at Bendat. Perry Lakes 3 presented a real challenge for the boys, having a size advantage at all positions, playing a structured and disciplined defensive scheme and a free-flowing team-first offense. They played with controlled aggression at the defensive end and pushed the ball impressively in offensive transition, catching us out consistently throughout the game.
These are all attributes we aspire to have as a team, ones that are within our own control (apart from height… eat your veggies boys). Many aspects of basketball require “will”, not just “skill”, and these are the areas that we left lacking this week and our opponents are consistently showing us what it takes to win.
After a tough 3 quarters the boys locked in for a really good last quarter, leaving some positives to take into a road trip to Eaton next week. We have the skill to take it up to any team in this division, having shown it throughout the season. It is now about finding the will to do what it takes to win at WABL level consistently. Lets have a great week of training building our intensity – Coach Terry

Our player of the game this week is Aiden Williams. Aiden always gives his absolute all every time he steps on the court. His hustle, energy and enthusiasm are infectious and all the boys feed off his energy both on the court and from the bench. Defensively we met our goal of keeping the opponents score below 50, and we consistently played within our defensive setup. Intensity wasn’t always there and rebounding is probably going to be what I mumble constantly in my twilight years. We led the game 31-22 at half time. And while we kept them to 23 in the second half, we only managed to score 12 points and just ran out of time to get the job done.
Offensively we had a combination of bad luck, with the ball just not finding its way through the hoop from shots that were the right shots and shots we normally hit, and poor adjustment. When our free flowing offense wasn’t working we needed to get back into running a more patient structured offense to breakdown the defense and take more high percentage shots. It was good to see the boys fire up and look to have a strong finish with a solid run in the 4th quarter and almost got the job done. This belief will pay off during the season. On to next week!

Another game with only 8 available players meant rotations and roles had to change, but the group took it in their stride and delivered one of our best offensive performances of the season so far. Our pace was good, our spacing was strong and our decision making helped us create quality looks. We shot when we should have shot, passed when we should have passed and played really solid team basketball.
Our rebounding also continues to improve, winning the battle 75 to 48 and grabbing 31 offensive rebounds. That effort gave us repeat chances and helped us stay in control. Keeping our standards high and stacking good in game habits will serve us well at the pointy end of the season.
Player of the Game
Dani Simmons – Dani is normally known for her offensive skillset, but this week she also showed the impact she can have on the defensive end. She stuffed the stat sheet with 9 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, 1 block and 5 deflections! Her pressure, activity and willingness to do the tough work helped set the tone for the group. She rebounded well, moved the ball and found ways to impact the game outside of just scoring. A mature performance and a great example of helping the team win in multiple ways.
Honourable mentions to Cara and Vicky, who both had massive double doubles. Cara (23 points, 12 rebounds, 5 steals, 7 deflections) and Vicky (15 points, 21 rebounds)

Once again, we found ourselves on the wrong side of a close result, but there were plenty of positives to take away from the game. We are starting to see the rewards of believing in our system and trusting the process. The girls continue to grow in confidence and understanding of how we want to play, and that progress is becoming more evident each week.
The game highlighted the defensive intensity we need to bring for the full length of the floor. When we applied consistent pressure and worked together defensively, we were able to disrupt the opposition and create opportunities for ourselves. It was also pleasing to see more of our scoring come from our pace and space style of play. As the girls continue to move the ball, fill lanes and create space for each other, we are generating better scoring opportunities and playing the brand of basketball we want to be known for.
While the result didn’t go our way, the continued improvement, effort and commitment to our team-first approach are strong signs that we are heading in the right direction.
Player of the Game
Ilse Bongers. Ilse gives 100% effort every time she steps onto the floor, and her commitment to the team is evident in every game. Her ability to run down players in defence is quickly becoming her trademark. Time and again she chased hard, applied pressure and turned what looked like easy opportunities for the opposition into contested possessions. Not only did Ilse finish as our leading scorer, but she also did an excellent job of creating opportunities for her teammates. Her willingness to share the ball and involve others in our offence reflects her growing understanding of the game and our team-first approach.

Loss against Mandurah Magic (43 – 47)
Coaches Notes
Team backed up a tough performance against the second top team with a match against the top of the table, again 2 players down. We talked about using the element of surprise and Mandurah definitely underestimated us. The girls came out firing and put on a lot of physical pressure. Whilst they looked stronger on court, shots didn’t drop. Mandurah were up by 3 points at quarter time but clearly rattled. The girls dominated the second quarter and Mandurah looked unsure about how to manage their speed and intensity. We outscored them by 5 points and went in 2 points up. Mandurah responded in the third quarter, increasing their intensity and attack on the ball but Team 4 held steady, finishing 3 points ahead. The foul count grew quickly in the final quarter and we lost Allaina, who had been holding them out of the paint well all game. Cass and Hannah played well to fill the gap and then Hannah was also fouled out. Mandurah got a few shots to drop and pulled in front in the final minutes.
This team continue to impress. A win would have been amazing but we can not underestimate how incredible these girls were to take it to a very physical Mandurah team and hold onto their style of play for the majority of the game.
Player of the game
Again, very strong performances across the team. Player of the game was Allaina. Whilst she didn’t get to play much of the fourth quarter, her impact was obvious in the remainder of the game. She is really strong in the paint and posting up well in offence. She added 16 points to the team total and blocked countless entries by Mandurah. Really exciting.

This was our second meeting with the Slammers, and they made a significant defensive adjustment by switching from man-to-man defence to a zone. It took us some time to adapt, but once we found our rhythm against it, we were able to take control and win all four quarters.
The Slammers relied heavily on two standout players who combined for 38 points. In the second half, we assigned Damon to defend their lead guard, which helped disrupt their offensive flow. The adjustment proved effective, as we held them to just 23 points after halftime, playing a key role in securing the victory.
Offensively, Alijah led the scoring with 15 points, while Mathew added 11 and Damon contributed 10 in a strong all-around team performance.

Coaches notes
A strong result for our 18.3s this week, securing a 92–73 win built on pressure, pace, and composure. The group started well, applying excellent defensive pressure to force turnovers and create a significant advantage in shot volume. Across the game, this pressure consistently generated extra possessions, allowing the team to take 93 shots to the opposition’s 58 — a key factor in the result.
While there were patches, particularly in the second quarter, where discipline dropped and leak-out scores were conceded, the team responded strongly after halftime. A lift in work rate and focus saw the group return to their pressure identity, immediately forcing turnovers and regaining control of the game.
Offensively, the boys showed clear improvement in their ability to play with pace and layer actions, with ball movement to second and third sides creating quality scoring opportunities. This was a pleasing step forward in how the group is connecting within the offence.
Overall, a strong performance built on pressure and possession advantage, with clear progress in our offensive flow and the group’s ability to respond and adjust within the game.
Player of the game
A standout performance from Adrian Angeles, who continues to show outstanding growth each week while driving the way we want to play offensively.
Adrian finished with a strong all-round game of 14 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals, shooting an efficient 7/11. More importantly, he consistently attacked early and created for others, helping generate quality opportunities through second and third side actions.
Adrian’s willingness to take on feedback and apply it is clear, with his improvement in decision making and offensive connection a key step forward for both him and the team.

Coaches Notes
We travelled to Rockingham with 8 players and a much smaller lineup, we came out solid with a good defensive effort ending the qrt with a 20-10 lead. The game got close as we started to give up open shots, and fell back into the old habits of trading baskets as well as individual concerns rather then the team. Which led to me handing coaching duties to the players and coach themselves the remainder of the game just after half time.
To their credit they did well, had a 5 pt lead with just under 1:35 left. However, a number of errors as well as confusion and lack of awareness on defense, and very questionable behaviour on the court celebrating in opponents faces resulted in what was always inevitable.. a taste of humble pie which was served ice cold.
A very special mention to Rajzhan, he was the ultimate professional. Getting hounded all game (clearly opposition coach had worked out he was the biggest threat) offered to sit himself out for in the 4th for around 5-6min for others who he felt were doing well and did not whine or cry and showed amazing growth as a player and a person especially the ripping he got from myself the past couple of weeks, it’s great to see maturity and I know he will continue to grow.
Player of the game
Without a doubt Xavier finally understood the meaning of doing what is required when your team needs you to do the hustle rebounding and forget about offense, with James and Tom out it is vital we have Xavier filling that role to help out Sam and Deacon . Combine that with the fact the flow of the game created some a couple of good 3 point shots where he sunk 2 and yet as a collective he was left out in the 4th qrt for the first 7 minutes or so before Jayden eventually forced him to get in. He showed great character and understood how to be the ultimate teammate this game and I cannot be prouder then how far he’s come since the early weeks.
