Loss against South West Slammers (32 – 37)
Coaches notes
In an exciting U12 basketball game, our team showcased amazing defensive skills, particularly with double teaming, which led to quick turnovers for the Slammers and easy fast-break opportunities for us. Despite this strong push, we struggled to break through their trap defense, which slowed our momentum in the last quarter. A key moment came when Lahlita and Mary each hit a crucial three-pointer, bringing us back within just a few points of the Slammers. We were thrilled to welcome Chloe back from her holiday, and she quickly made an impact, scoring 8 points. Although we fought hard, we were up against a taller, bigger side and unfortunately the reffing didn’t go our way, resulting in 4 of our girls fouling out. Overall, the girls played another great game and they should be so proud of themselves!
Player of the game
Our player of the game goes to Olivia Mackay!
Olivia had an amazing game today, playing with great confidence and energy. She really stood up with her defensive plays, making 3-4 big stops in just a quick few minutes, which helped create pressure on the other team and gave her team a boost. On offense, Olivia made smart decisions, which led to her scoring 4 important points. Her strong defense and quick thinking on offense played a huge part in the team’s success. It was definitely a breakout performance for Olivia and as coaching staff it is amazing to see Olivia execute what we work on with her at training. Well done Olivia!

Coaches notes
This was a tough game with some challenging conditions, but I’m incredibly proud of how our girls responded. They showed resilience and heart, refusing to back down no matter the missed shots or tough calls. Our second quarter was the best basketball we’ve played all season!! It really showed our growth and the potential we have as a team. Even though the final score didn’t go our way, the effort was exactly what I asked for and more.
We’re improving every game, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.
Player of the game
This week was tough for Chloe Sheridan! Chloe was fantastic on both ends of the court. Her strong defense stopped countless layups keeping us in the lead for most of the game! Good job Chlo!!
An honourable mention to Izzy and Ayla who were also powerhouses on the court this week!

We had 7 players going into the game so we knew it was always going to be tough – one of which was a last minute Friday sign on of a Development Player. The girls brought it to the court with determination and drive and the on ball hustle was what we’ve been working on for every game we go into . Didn’t quite get the win but we know it’s within reach – super proud of the girls and their efforts.

Sophie Grogan
Sophie’s basketball IQ would have to be one of the best within the group of girls – her understanding on what needs to be done and what is asked of her is always taken on board. Won against Cockburn Cougars Tigers (45 – 44)
Coaches notes
This game was an arm wrestle. After a back and forth first half where no team lead by more than a couple of baskets, Cockburn built a 37-30 lead after scoring 6 straight points just before three quarter time. We countered this run by scoring the last basket of the third and the first 8 points of the fourth to jump to a 40-37 lead. We lost our composure a few times in the final couple of minutes, but it all came down to a Cockburn possession with 7 seconds remaining trailing by a point, and our defense secured victory for us. Our passing was better than week 1, but still needs improving. We had several players stand up in the second half, where we turned this game in our favour.
Player of the game
Jett Christie was our player of the round with his all-around effort – handling the ball, scoring, passing, rebounding and playing great defense. Preston Handgraaf and Aiden Williams also stood up today and proved too much for Cockburn to handle.

Coach: Nathan La Cava
Won against Hills Raiders (55 – 50)
Coaches notes
We are focusing on our defense structures, and the team showed improvement in both our transition defense and in the half court. There was good help defense cutting off driving and passing lanes, although we conceded too many fouls maintaining this pressure through the whole game, but improved engagement on stopping the ball.
Defense provided us the momentum into our offence and we moved the ball well. We found some good shot options but did not have as much luck on the rim as we would like or deserved. We had a good spread of scorers across the team.
It was great to see our new to WABL players utilise their court time well, and Isaac Edwards, Jeremiah James & Kevin Zhang showed improved confidence on the court and were meaningful contributors.
Some more focus on composure in the closing minutes will also serve us well later in the season.

Won against Joondalup Wolves (61 – 42)
Coaches notes
This week we hit the road to take on the Joondalup Wolves, with both teams hungry for their first win of the season. It was a physical encounter from the start, but the Suns players did well to “play the whistle” and not get distracted by the off-ball contact. The opening half was tightly contested, with the boys working hard on defense but struggling to pull away—until a late 10–1 run gave us an 11-point lead at the main break.
Joondalup responded in the third quarter with renewed physicality, crashing the boards and gaining multiple second and third chance opportunities through our lapses in boxing out. Rebounding will be a focus at training this week, as it’s an area we need to improve collectively if we want to compete consistently at a high level.
In the fourth, the boys stepped up their defensive intensity, forcing turnovers and pushing the ball in transition. The sustained pressure put the Wolves on the back foot and into foul trouble, helping us take control and close out the game with a strong finish. The 19-point win was a testament to the team’s focus, energy, and determination to bounce back after a tough start to the season.
All 10 players made valuable contributions. Arona’s on-ball defense was a standout, while Jack, Oscar, Theo, and Zarene applied constant pressure to the Wolves’ ball handlers. Carter and Stellan were relentless in the paint, contesting shots and battling for every rebound. Malachi and Harry both delivered strong, all-around games—keeping the scoreboard ticking over and playing smart, disciplined defense that helped execute the game plan.
The coaches are really proud of the team’s effort—tough, mature, and played in the right spirit. A great result, boys! Thanks again to all the parents and supporters and volunteers who made the trip to Joondalup—we really appreciate the support, go Suns!
Player of the game
This award could have gone to a number of players this week such were the strong contributions from everyone on the team. Emmanuel Osei-Bonsu stepped in as a development player as we were short-handed. He showed plenty of potential making a genuine impact with his motor and athleticism, earning player of the game honours. Well done Emmanuel, keep working hard and more opportunities will come your way.

Loss against Cockburn Cougars (39 – 66)
Coaches notes
I didn’t expect to see these Cougars again after the 31pt margin loss at Grading, with that our task was to achieve a better result. It was go time! The first quarter we came out swinging taking it to them with a brief lead, our aggression seemed too much & we found ourselves in foul trouble at the challenging conditions at Wally Hagan with 7 fouls to 2 end of the first quarter trailing 16 -20. 2nd quarter saw a similar pattern getting 3 early fouls leaving our hard working boys hesitant to execute much, diminished they soldiered on focusing on rebounds & steals. As we tightened up defense Cougars resorted to 3 point shooting successfully, we finished strong with a message the Suns don’t quit! 3rd quarter we were obliged to adjust our defense, we got back to our game plan of give n go & fast breaks! This proved effective as it carried through the rest of the game making the 4th quarter shot for shot & very competitive. This game only made us stronger, I look forward to meeting them again!

Won against Perth Redbacks (42 – 36)
Coaches notes
After a tough game last week that didn’t reflect our potential, the team responded with intent, conceding just 1 point in the opening quarter thanks to intense and disciplined defense. That energy stayed high all game as we forced rushed shots late in the clock and finished with 7 blocks and 13 steals.
Offensively we made smart decisions and found quality looks both inside and beyond the arc, continuing to shoot a better percentage than our opponents. One area we’re still working on is limiting offensive rebounds, as we gave up too many second-chance points. Still, this game was a great glimpse of what this group can do and there’s real excitement about where we’re heading.
Player of the game
There were plenty of strong cases for Player of the Game this week, but the award goes to Indianna Billett.
Every team needs an Indi, and we are very lucky she is on ours. She makes her teammates better by doing all the little things that do not show up on the stat sheet, spacing the floor, setting screens, taking hits, and is always willing to make the extra pass.
This week, when momentum started to swing against us in the third quarter, Indi stepped up. She scored 7 points through strong drives to the basket and doing her usual damage from beyond the arc to help us steady and regain control. She finished with an efficient 70% EFG, 5 rebounds. Whatever job she is given, Indi gets it done. Well done mate!

Sunday’s game highlighted what this team can achieve when we play with purpose. Though the warm-up lacked energy, a focused team huddle set the tone for the game. The girls opened with a 7–0 run, leading by just two at the end of the first quarter after accepting some tough fouls. From there, we gained momentum, winning every quarter with consistent, disciplined, team-first play. By halftime, we were up 22–14. The third quarter was our best stretch of the season—locking down defense, limiting the Slammers to just 1 point and scoring 14 ourselves. The girls closed out the game confidently, sealing a 43–21 victory. Every player contributed and their effort and focus were outstanding. This win was a result of hard work, belief and playing for each other. We’re excited for what’s next!

Won against Willetton Tigers (41 – 35)
Coaches notes
Playing Willetton always feels daunting no matter what div you play so we were ready for the fight. The girls came out strong with high intensity on defense and rebounding causing many turnovers by Willetton helping us to an early lead at the end of the quarter. The second quarter highlighted to the girls why we reinforce rebounding so much, as a lapse in this saw them outscored and lose their lead. The third and fourth saw the girls really step it back up. They were back rebounding strong and lifting the defense pressure to pull back the lead. Unfortunately time was against us in the end and we look forward to playing them again with four strong quarters. The chemistry these girls are starting to build gets us excited as to what they can achieve going forward. They are continuing to make better decisions with the ball and looking up the court. Special mention to Sophia who is always chasing the rebounds leading others to do the same.
Player of the game
This week was Georgia’s week. Her decision making when under pressure after rebounds and defensive pressure in the paint was very important against a team that was taller than a lot of ours. Her run from end to end to guard or attack the paint is commendable always giving her all till she has nothing left. She is a pleasure to coach and always receptive to instructions and with a quick thumbs up always adjusts to what we’ve said.

Coaches notes
We secured a hard-earned 55–48 victory over the Cockburn Cougars. The match was characterised by fluctuating momentum, with both sides trading runs and applying pressure throughout the first three quarters. While we faced challenges in maintaining offensive consistency and allowed a few too many second-chance opportunities, the players demonstrated commendable resilience and focus when it mattered most. In the fourth quarter, we executed with greater discipline, tightened our defensive structure, and made decisions under pressure to pull out the late victory.
Player of the game

Loss against East Perth Eagles (44 – 67)
Coaches notes
A slow start to the game saw our opponents open a lead in the first quarter. Our defensive intensity was lacking, allowing some easy looks at the basket for the Eagles. As we turned up the defensive intensity, we also opened some scoring opportunities during the second quarter and reduced the margin by forcing turnovers. The second half was a much closer contest than the score shows, the ball just did not fall for us consistently enough. Some positive moments from the game included some tough inside play from Jason, finishing inside under pressure. Hunter provided his usual energy and hustle, making some crucial plays when we needed them. Henry played some quality one on one defense, getting multiple steals. We showed some positive signs with our decision making in transition, passing up a good opportunity for a great one to get some easy buckets in transition. Overall, stopping their running game proved too much for us today combined with a low Field Goal %.
Player of the game
Another game where many efforts stood out, but this week’s player of the round goes to Alex. Alex really kept the intensity going when he was on the court giving consistent effort on both ends. His passing was a highlight, setting up his teammates and kicking the ball ahead in transition. Well done, Alex!

Coaches notes
We spent 2 training sessions this week working a set offense for our dynamic wings to go 1 on 1 and I’m glad to say this is one we will have in our back pocket going forward for the duration of the season. Damon and Kian were our primary focus on offense this week and it’s no surprise that Damon got a double double 13pts 10 reb. Kian had 8pts 7reb and wins our player of the game award with some crucial defensive stops to help us over the line with a 6pt victory after being down by as much as 13 in the 1st qtr. As the season progresses, our aim is to have multiple options and base on the scoring across the board over 2 games. I feel we are moving nicely in the right direction. Honourable Mentions Damon 13pts 10 reb on 60%FG. Kidan 8pts 7 reb 2 blocks on 50%FG. Brodie 8pts 9 reb on 44%FG. Austin 9pts 8 reb 2 blocks on 57.1%FG. Kobe 12pts 6 reb 4 assist 4 steals on 44%FG (3pt 57%). Isaac – 5 assist and ball carrying duties. Hayden – Return from Japan 5 steals.
Player of the game
It was a tough one, but Kian had some timely steals at the most crucial of moments in the 4th qtr that helped us get over the line and get us the lead. Damon was our consistent solid performer all game. Not taking the shine away from him, but Kian’s defensive effort was just that key difference we needed and he deserved our player of the game.

Coaches notes
We started the game off with suffocating defense leading to a 16-0 first quarter. The boys continued throughout the game to push the pace on offence, holding off multiple runs from the Hawks. Our execution during the final period of the game is what won us a mostly tight match, helping us to pull away in the last minute. 3 point shooting was a massive takeaway helping us add points, whilst limiting our own fouls.
Player of the game
Player of the round is Kade Harman. His efforts may not have shown up in the stats sheet but definitely was noticed within the coaching group. Amongst hitting back to back huge 3’s in the last 2 minutes of the game to help us pull away, his on ball pressure defensively and ball control offensively were incredible throughout the whole game. Firstly, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Jen and Njamal People’s Trust for sponsoring the girls. We looked smart and classy, and it means a lot for the girls to be comfortable and represent as a cohesive team. Thank you, Jen! Unfortunately, our slow start proved costly in this game. Despite making adjustments in the second half, where we outscored our opponents by 5 points, it wasn’t enough. Rockingham played a tight zone defense, protecting the paint, and we struggled to adapt until it was too late. Going forward, we need another solid week of training on the boards, as we were out-rebounded 75 to 56 in this match. There were some bright spots despite the challenges. Tilly had a double-double with 11 points, 14 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. Holly faced early foul trouble, limiting her usual defensive pressure, but she still managed to score 21 points, along with 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals

Loss against Warwick Senators (39 – 46)
Coaches notes
Coming out strong in the first quarter, we jumped to an early double-digit lead through tough pressure defense. Before the first period rounded out the Senators picked up their intensity and quickly turned it into a tight contest. We struggled through a tough patch in the middle of the game, unable to find good shots. We made a late push in the fourth quarter and brought the game closer but left it too late to change the outcome. Ultimately, it came down to numbers of possessions and shot making, of which we were unable to match the surging Warwick girls.
Player of the game
Abigail Allan: Abi was a presence inside the key, controlling the boards and consistently challenging shots around the rim. Coaches notes
We were excited to make the most of our early back-to-back home games but came up short. Like any early-season matchup, we’re still working to find the right on-court combinations to build offensive rhythm and disrupt our opponents’ momentum. The Senators opened the scoring and never gave up the lead. Our defensive pressure generated plenty of steals, but we struggled to convert them. After a competitive first half, we trailed by 8. We edged closer in the third, cutting it to 4, but the Senators’ dominance on the offensive boards was decisive. Despite recording our lowest turnovers since State Champs, poor shooting and rebounding let us down, with the Senators pulling in 60 boards (21 offensive). We look forward to a full squad next week to face the Willetton Tigers away. Player of the Round, decided by coin toss after a tie, goes to Raymond Tafira (12pts, 5reb, 4ast, 4stl, 2blk). Unfortunately a final quarter lapse gave Willetton a chance of coming back, but to the boys credit they once again held on for a win.

We got off to a good start pushing the score out 10-3 and forcing the Slammers to call an early timeout. From there our intensity dropped off and we were slow in our defensive rotations and close out, which allowed them to hit 3 x 3 pointers to take the lead heading in to quarter time. From there we re-gathered ourselves and started picking up our intensity and defensive rotations and started to control the game. We outscored the team in the last 3 quarters to eventually win the game by 8 points. Ronron led the team with 19 points, while Edzon and Tommy both chipped in with 12. Lukah continued his scoring with 10 and Ben stepped up this week with 11.

Loss against Cockburn Cougars (55 – 77)
Coaches notes
Sunday’s game was a challenge, as we showed the potential to beat a strong, fast-paced Cockburn team. The score didn’t reflect the game, with moments of solid defense and a brief lead. However, shot selection and ball movement fell short. Stats revealed we took far fewer uncontested shots than Cockburn, an issue we can fix by adhering to a more selfless game plan. A positive was our balanced scoring, with nine players contributing – Artin, Will, & Billy leading the way. Guard rebounding was impressive, with Reuben and Sam boxing out well. Ethan, Reuben, Sam, and Atticus led in assists attempts, showing their willingness to share the ball despite the Team struggle with ball movement. Noah was strong defensively, Adam pulled down a team high 10 rebounds. Kyan battled out of position but showed great effort and attitude. Coach James and I remain focused on teamwork, not individual scoring, and while we fell short, there were positives to build on as we improve our continuity.
Player of the game
Big Will earns this week’s player of the game for his commitment to the game plan & team-first attitude. Will held his own against tough competition, he stayed disciplined and embraced the challenges. His leadership and reliability stood out on Sunday. Coaches notes
It was great to see us get off to a much better start this week than we did in Round 1. The defense was improved and the team executed well on offence creating good shots, especially from 3 as we were able to knock down nine triples in the first half. That kept the scoreboard pressure on, and it was only a late basket by Perry Lakes that saw us go into the half down by two. The game was a tale of two halves though, as the Hawks blew the game open with a 16-1 run to start the third quarter. We simply couldn’t recover from that, as the Hawks used their size and speed to run away with the game from there. Overall though I thought we improved significantly from last week, with the first half in particular providing a glimpse into how good we can be this season if we stay focussed. Our challenge now is to work on how we can maintain that level of execution and intensity over all four quarters, which I believe these girls can do.
Player of the game
Our player of the round this week is Rachel Moore. Rachel led from the front this week, regularly setting up our offence and making the right play. She was composed against a tough Hawks press, reducing the turnover issues we had last week. Rachel is one of our hardest workers at training, willing to take on feedback as she looks to improve her game. This was a strong performance against quality opposition and I look forward to her continued improvement this season. Well done Rachel.

Started the game slowly, to be expected playing at 8am. 2nd half we changed some things defensively and were able to claw our way back into the game unfortunately falling short. Proud of the team for never giving up and fighting until the end, couldn’t be prouder of the effort. Notable mention goes to Lachy Mcglade, at half time he came up to me and asked if he could guard their best player. I trusted in Lachy and assigned him with that task and he completely shut the player out of the game. Great effort Lach!!
Player of the game
Marley Sam – his commitment to this team is truly remarkable, coming back from Geraldton the night before after suiting up in both D League and NBL1 games to put up an impressive 32 points and 10 rebounds as a 5’8 guard, his stats aren’t everything because what he brings in leadership to this team both on and off the court, is an absolute gift.

Really strong and disciplined performance from the team after a narrow loss last week. Our full court and on ball defense was outstanding with Rockingham struggling to get the ball out of their back court and then failing to start their offence when they did. 31 total steals from our pressure and more pleasingly 21 assists as we ran the floor hard on their turnovers. The team were very disciplined in offence getting into our sets and creating advantages on almost every possession. It was great to see a good spread of scorers as 6 players got into double figures. The energy from our bench was outstanding and the opposition team commented on how loud they were post-game. Some standout performances which made player of the week voting very difficult. Honourable mentions to Sam, who played through sickness and gave us a strong presence at the rim, Hudson who almost got to a double double on assists and steals and Zach, who continues to lead our offence with 20 points.
Player of the game
Ashton is our player of the round this week. Ashton continues to do all the little things right, 100% of the time — the kind of consistency that doesn’t always show up on the stat sheet, but wins games.
