Players of the Round:
Chelsea Parker (U16 Girls Team 2) Making her mark at both ends of the floor, Chelsea showed an aggressive mindset seizing her opportunities. Chelsea leads with her voice and intense playstyle. She nailed a couple of shots from deep and finished off 2 feet in the paint on her way to 10 points. Chelsea’s controlled and intelligent guard play is a reflection of the work she puts into her game. Fantastic game, Chelsea!
Cal Kew (U16 Boys Team 1) – Cal Kwe Is this weeks player of the game.
Again another one that I’ve challenged and demanded a lot from throughout preseason and trainings.
Cal has all the tools and talent to go somewhere with his basketball he needs to continue to believe himself and trust in his ability
He came to play, no time to stall,
He got the key to open every hall,
First in the game, last man to fall,

Won against Rockingham Flames (33 – 29)
Coaches notes
An overtime win!! The girls fought a nail biting game and managed to win by 4 points in a close overtime game to a strong Rockingham team. The girls played great team basketball doing all the things a coach could ask for! Passing ahead, cutting & creating good leads and pressure on defence.
All 10 made a solid impact on the game but the girls in overtime need a special mention.
Two people you don’t want full court pressing you is our firecracker twins Priya and Adley. With Iz being on four fouls, these two stepped up to full court press with immense pressure (very well) whilst we had our bigs protecting the ring and they did a great job. The game was secured by consistent points from Izzy, Adley & Chloe and strong rebounds from Frankie and Lex. All 10 of our girls should be proud of the game they had today. We are still learning and improving as a team. Watch out for us!!!
Player of the game
Izzy – The confidence is radiating from Iz. With a strong 14 points this week Iz led our scoring. But she doesn’t only do that. Izzy leads our team in energy, in defensive pressure & resilience week in and week out. This week she took a few big hits from the flames girls, got up and went for the ball twice us hard, motivating her team mates to do the same. She drove in and took great layups creating gaps & taking advantage of the gaps her team mates created for her. I hope this confidence is consistent Iz, you are a rising star and we love to watch you play

Loss against Cockburn Cougars (4 – 51)
Coaches notes
I suspect that we came across the team to beat this season. The girls faced an experienced Cougars side who currently sit on top of the Div 6 ladder with a percentage of 755%. This game will form as a good benchmark for when we meet again. The Cougars had previously played Div 4 at State Champs making the semi final, they were bigger bodied and well rehearsed. Unfortunately our girls lost their structure throughout most of the game, but I cannot question their effort regardless. These games are as expected for where we are at, and presents many development and focus points moving forward. Given the size and experience of the Cougars girls, I was very impressed with how fierce our girls remained. There was no sense of intimidation. Great effort girls!
Player of the game
Player of the round this week goes to Evelyn Perazzo. Evie gave it her all across all four quarters. Her attempts to bring the ball up the court were courageous. There were times where the more experienced Cougars side shut the ball carry down, but this didn’t stop her from trying again and again, refusing to give up (this is the effort and energy level we want to see as a team). Well done Evie!

Loss against Perth Redbacks (14 – 38)
Coaches notes
The girls showed great fight out on the court, never giving up and working hard the entire game. Offensively, they moved the ball up the court well, and with a bit more push and spacing, that will become even more effective.
Defensively, they were strong and aggressive all game. It was fantastic to see how often they disrupted play and came away with steals. The pressure on shooters was consistent and really made a difference.
A solid team effort with great intensity—keep building on that energy!
Player of the game
Queen of the Court: Ella
Ella dominated the court with her all-around performance. Exceptionally strong on both offense and defense, she brought relentless energy, never slowing down as she moved up and down the court. Her determination and positive attitude stood out, making her not only a powerful player but also a great presence on the team.
Well done on player of the game.

Loss against East Perth Eagles (56 – 76)
Coaches notes
Some of the positives to take away from the game were our team’s resilience and ability to keep competing despite being in foul trouble for most of the game. The group continued to battle hard and never gave up, which allowed us to go on a strong run in the fourth quarter and bring the margin back to single digits. Another key takeaway was our composure — we didn’t let the refereeing affect us and stayed focused on playing our game.
Player of the game
For this week’s Player of the Game, I have chosen Derrick Coleman. The reason for this selection is his consistent defensive intensity throughout the game. Even after picking up his fourth foul early and spending much of the game in foul trouble, Derrick continued to play elite one-on-one and help defence.
His ability to get out in transition also played a key role in keeping the scoreboard ticking over, especially during periods where we, as a team, were struggling to score. Despite the unfortunate result, Derrick’s intensity and team-first mentality kept us competitive and within striking distance for much of the game.

Loss against Mandurah Magic (30 – 75)
Coaches notes
This week was a tough contest for us, both physically and mentally. Mandurah came out strong from the outset, and we were too slow to respond and apply the pressure needed to slow them down. They made the most of their opportunities, particularly when we lacked defensive intensity, lack of rebounding and poor passing choices. Ultimately they proved too strong across the game.
Offensively, we were able to create some good looks, but as a group it wasn’t enough. While the effort and intent were there, we weren’t able to consistently convert or generate enough shots to make an impact in the scoreboard.
With illness and injuries affecting the squad, we had the opportunity to bring in development players Harvey and Cruz. Both stepped up well and showed great composure under pressure. They found space offensively and were able to convert some valuable shots, highlighting their potential at this level, it was really great to see. Plenty to take away from this one—onwards and upwards from here.
Player of the game
JT was strong through out the whole game – both offensively and defensively. Creating some nice plays and good overall performance.

Coaches notes
The boys came out firing against what looks to be one of the stronger teams in the grade. While there were a few testing moments, their consistency and composure shone through to secure a well-earned win. It’s been fantastic to see how well they’re coming together as a team—the chemistry is building, and the results are starting to reflect it.
Player of the game
Player of the Week – Max Paul. Max has gone above and beyond on the court for two weeks straight and has been unstoppable under the ring. You can always be counted on for strong rebounds, and your confidence to drive to the basket and put it back up, has been fantastic to watch. It’s great seeing your game go from strength to strength each week. Your effort, determination, and impact on the court don’t go unnoticed—keep up the great work, Max!

Loss against Willetton Tigers (36 – 45)
Coaches notes
This was a positive result for us and proof we’re trending in the right direction, this team got a hold of us at grading 38-10 in just 16 minutes and to just lose by 9 and competing hard is so confidence boosting for the girls. To stay in this game and even have a strong lead 15-6 early in the second qtr shows we are very capable but like all young teams a few mental lapses let the other team back into the game. I’m very proud that we fought all the way to the end of the game finished the game on an 11-4 run to make the game uncomfortable. Turnovers are down 10 and shooting percentages are up almost 10% from the week before, after we all made a pact to take these things personally and work on these two areas that is very pleasing.
Eunice was great again offering a huge double double 14points 13reb with 5stls and 1 block and while Soph didn’t make the most of her opportunities her leadership and never die attitude were so important it doesn’t matter who loses the ball Soph always sprints hard repeatedly to try and correct it and help her team. May Cooper was a steady head for us in this game also making better decisions with the ball this week.
Player of the game
This week my little pocket rocket point guard returned to form. Harper Dostal is our player of the round and I couldn’t be more chuffed for her. 13pts 6reb 2asts and 9 steals 😮. I talked to Harps about her submissive game the week before and asked her to lead from the front this week, and although the assists weren’t there she was masterful at putting her feet in the paint and finding the right pass over and over. Well done Harper

Won against Perry Lakes Hawks (41 – 25)
Coaches notes
The girls delivered a strong performance this weekend, built on outstanding defensive pressure right from the start. The game began evenly, with both teams matching each other, but it was clear our intensity on defence was setting the tone.
After half time, the team found another gear, pulling away with a great run built on stops. It was awesome to see last week’s teamwork continue, with players supporting each other, moving the ball well, and playing unselfishly.
A real highlight was the depth across the team. Every player who stepped onto the court made an impact, seamlessly maintaining the same level as the starting five. Everyone embraced their role and contributed.
Player of the game
Mary Taufa was a well deserved Player of the Game, making a big impact on both ends. She was relentless on defence, constantly pressuring the opposition, and showed great IQ with the ball, bringing it up the court confidently and finding the open players to pass to, including strong feeds inside to our post players. She also contributed 4 points to cap off a great all round performance. Way to go Mary!

Despite being undersized, our girls rebounding was one of the highlights. We got a lot of looks offensively we just couldn’t make the most of it. The whole game the girls fought strong and never dropped their heads. They displayed amazing effort considering the score.
Player of the game
Winter-Rose Berner – Winter-Rose was the embodiment of the word hustle. Going up against girls who were bigger than her she was fighting for every rebound and every loose ball as well as being the anchor to our defence. Through her efforts we got a lot of stops and fast break opportunities

Coaches notes
A very even contest was expected after getting the narrowest of victories at grading against this team. The first quarter was played at pace, and our transition game was clicking, and we opened a 10-point lead. A drop in intensity saw scores level at half time. The second half was much of the same, an even contest that was decided by Rockingham’s big, who had too much height and bulk under the basket. Overall, I was very happy with the boy’s effort for much of the game and we were a few refereeing decisions away from a win. Our ball movement was much improved from last week and we will continue to work on that at training this week. Special mention to Xander for playing and scoring a bucket in his first ever WABL game and doing some positive things out on the floor and Declan and Lucas for eclipsing 100 WABL games for the Suns!
Player of the game
Player of the round this week was tough again with an even contribution. Some standout stats for the game were Fletcher with 5 blocks, and Kirath with 6 points, 3 assists and 6 steals! However, player of the round goes to Ashton who had 14 points (including 2 big three pointers in the final quarter) to go along with 4 assists, 1 block, 2 steals and 6 rebounds. Great all round game Ashton!

The boys started the game very well, coming out of the gate playing hard and as a team. As the game went on Joondalup snuck away as they were very big and monstered us on the boards. We had fantastic moments of fight back throughout the game, particularly in the 3rd quarter where the boys started to put it together a bit more. Unfortunately it was too late.
Player of the game
Player of the round goes to Jaxon Simmons. Jaxon’s consistent effort and fantastic decision making throughout the game did not go unnoticed. Although he wasn’t top scorer, his intensity of the defensive end and composure on offence were impressive.
Special mention to Theo Birks scoring 18 points.

Won against East Perth Eagles (79 – 63)
Coaches notes
After losing by 1 point in our Round 1 game, I think the whole team was determined to not leave anything on the table for Round 2.
We put our focus on defence, rebounding and reducing our turnovers. While listening is not up there in our top 10 skill set the boys locked in and delivered as a team and consistently over four full quarters.
East Perth put up a serious fight, but struggled to defend without fouling, which gave us some room to push ahead in the 3rd quarter which we held for the win.
While we had prominent scorers with Arona 21pts, Emmanuel 20pts & Jack Tucker 10pts, all 10 players got on the scoreboard, and it was a full team buy in with our defence which was the energy for our running game.
The biggest highlight was seeing the confidence in some of the lads improving through training and into the games.
Player of the Game
Player of the Game was a hard one, both Emmanuel & Arona played solid consistent games. But this week Arona Gopolang is our player of the game. Arona had a consistent all round game with lock down defence, composure with bringing the ball up the floor and either finding team mates with a timely pass or finishing at the hoop with some flair for his 21 points. Well done Arona it was a pleasure to watch.

Coaches notes
After struggling with rebounding and consistency last week, we came out focused, locked in and took control of the game early, and never looked back. Willetton made a strong push in the second quarter, but we were able to keep our defensive pressure high and hold them to a low shooting percentage.
I was particularly happy with our shot selection this week. We worked together to create and keep advantage, generated great shots and knocked them down, which led to a noticeable improvement in our shooting numbers. Not perfect, and still plenty to work on, but this was a well rounded team game with contributions across the board.
Player of the Game
This week our player of the game is Aliyanna Awino. Over the last few weeks we have seen glimpses of the competitor Ali can be, and she has been challenged to back herself and do what makes her great. This week she showed that when she is locked in, she cannot be contained. She was relentless attacking the basket and the glass, finishing with an efficient double double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.
An absolute joy to watch her go to work this week. Well done mate!

In another impressive performance, we played a cohesive team game, dominating on the Wolve’s home court. A solid first half set the tone. Our team defence limited the opposition to just 17 points in the half and helped establish a 15-point lead heading into the main break. The second half was a more free-flowing affair with both teams scoring with greater ease. Our transition game and outlet passing displayed our willingness to hit the open player and find advantage. We look forward to an early morning top of the table clash against a tough Redbacks team in our upcoming round 3 game.
Player of the game
Chelsea Parker. Making her mark at both ends of the floor, Chelsea showed an aggressive mindset seizing her opportunities. Chelsea leads with her voice and intense playstyle. Loss against Perth Redbacks (33 – 45)
Coaches notes
We had a great loss this week — a great what? A great loss. The girls played an exceptional game against a Redbacks side that had won by more than 60 points the previous week, and to hold them to a 12-point margin was a fantastic effort from the entire team.
Our defensive pressure really rattled the Redbacks and showed just how far the girls have already come. To be playing with this level of defensive structure and intensity so early in the season is extremely encouraging. Just as importantly, the girls were able to work through and overcome the opposition’s defensive pressure at different stages of the game, which clearly frustrated them and proved we are heading in the right direction as a group.
There is still plenty to build on, but the effort, teamwork and willingness to trust the process were outstanding throughout the game.
Player of the game
Lucia Matthews-Ferraro. Her effort across the entire floor was outstanding and set a great example for the team. Her defensive pressure and strong rebounding were a real highlight and reflected her excellent basketball IQ and understanding of the game. Lucia consistently plays bigger than her size, competing strongly in every contest and making an impact at both ends of the floor.

Coaches notes
Tough away game against Eagles 3, going down 61–54 in a contest that was close throughout. Having beaten this team by one point in grading, we knew it would be a strong challenge, and the game reflected that with multiple lead changes across all four quarters.
Our third quarter was a highlight, as we lifted our intensity and execution to take a small lead into the final break after trailing for much of the game. Unfortunately, we couldn’t sustain that momentum in the fourth.
We identified some early concerns with offensive rebounds, but there was clear improvement as the game progressed. It was also positive to have the full squad available again, with players returning from missed games. We are continuing to build well, with a focus on fast breaks, strong movement within our five-out structure, and defensive balance between pressure and help.
Player of the game
Ellah Farrier earns Player of the Round for her outstanding competitiveness and team-first approach. Despite being undersized, Ellah consistently puts her body on the line and competes with intensity. She trains with purpose, embraces learning, and applies it in games. While she scored 2 points, her impact was far greater—creating turnovers, deflections, and jump balls through tenacious defence and relentless two-way sprinting.

Despite what the final score was this doesn’t truly reflect how well we played as a team. Coming up against arguably the best team in our division we were competitive and engaged throughout. The challenge is getting these boys to understand that a moments lapse in concentration can turn into deficits too big to overcome. I am extremely proud of the effort and energy brought by everyone. If we can continue to build on this a win is not too far around the corner for this group.

Coaches notes
The game was a real battle early, with both teams locked in a grinding contest throughout most of the first half and neither side able to establish any real separation. We went into halftime holding a narrow six‑point lead after staying composed and working hard at both ends of the floor. At the break, we spoke about lifting our intensity and being more decisive, and the response was outstanding.
The third quarter proved to be the turning point. We delivered a dominant performance, outscoring the opposition 32–20, which allowed us to take control of the game and create some breathing room. From there, we showed good maturity and composure to maintain our style of play and close out a solid 96–81 win.
Once again, it was pleasing to see our scoring well spread across the group rather than relying on a single contributor. Kyan led the way with 19 points, while Austin continued his strong form with 18. Matthew chipped in with 16, and both Alijah and Damon provided valuable support with 12 points apiece.
Player of the game
Player of the game was another tough call, but this week the nod goes to Austin Berkhout. Austin worked tirelessly all game, finishing with 18 points and making a strong impact on the boards with his rebounding presence. Special mentions also go to Alijah and Damon, who both produced excellent all‑round performances and played key roles in the win.

Another tough contested game for the team. The team had to withstand a number of runs that Binar put together and really dig deep to etch out a win.
Positive to see the resilience of this group growing each week and the principles and disciplines the coaching group have been embedding over the pre-season start to take form.
Player of the game
Honorable mentions this week:
Josh Mahama, played a pivotal role on the defensive end of the floor and worked hard all day for his 18 points and rebounds.
Jackson McClure was solid all day, very pivotal in the 4th giving us multiple second and third possessions through his hustle plays, ended the day with a 20P / 20R double double.
But this weeks player of the game was Cooper Hewer, every time Binar came at us with a run he hit some big shots to slow some of that momentum down and end up with 30 points, but the improvement that we’re more pleased with is his effort and attention to the defensive side of his game.

A tough result for our U18s this week, who were unable to close out the match after leading by 16 points at three‑quarter time, going down by a narrow margin late.
For much of the game, the group played with strong intent, applying pressure defensively and creating opportunities through team basketball. Unfortunately, the final quarter saw momentum swing, with second‑chance scores and rushed possessions proving costly in a close finish.
While disappointing, this match provides an important learning opportunity early in the season. The group showed they can build leads through pressure, effort, and connection, and now have clear areas to improve around composure and finishing defensive possessions in high‑pressure moments.
Plenty to take forward as the team continues to grow and develop across the season.
Player of the game
Player of the Match: Tom J
In a tough contest, Tom J’s consistent two‑way performance stood out. Tom was always in the right spots defensively, finishing with 6 rebounds and 3 steals, and showing excellent awareness and discipline across the floor.
Offensively, he stayed composed, knocking down tough shots on the way to 13 points and creating for others with 4 assists, providing strong balance between scoring and team play.
Special mentions to Ryker, who ran the floor relentlessly for 21 points, and Tom L, whose aggressive defence and energy were outstanding, and who was unlucky to have three made perimeter shots ruled as twos.

Player of the game
It was very hard to choose this weeks play of the round.
Some honourable mentions firstly goes to Kobe Orwin’s hustle and mentality for the game keeping up the same intensity and shooting well from the court.
Rishaan and Jermaine did extremely well when they both were together on the court.

Coaches Notes
We took 2 steps in the right direction with our second game. A good turn out from parents and families supporting us was super nice, against a lakeside team where we new a couple of former suns players. The first step we took was as an entire group our body language on the court and on the bench was tremendous the constant positive and support for each other was genuine and you can really feel the vibe throughout our side of the stadium. The 2 step was understanding how to isolate and limit the oppositions threat by playing some good 1 on 1 defense.
We started the game well, Lakeside came back abit but we managed to pull away by the half and maintain a fairly comfortable lead throughout the game. Jayden had his first game this season as our rotation 10th player and he did an amazing job on Mofe Johnson keeping him to 2pts the entire game, along with his too unselfishness on the offense side. Looking forward to the next couple of rounds, with Arjun away it allows our DPs to play more and these early development game is crucial for us as a team to get depth going now. The goal is to not have 2 weapons but to have around 8 or so by the end of the season so it’ll make teams harder to scheme against us and we are looking good.
Player of the game
Rajzhan D’Sylva had 6 threes and 34 pts along with multiple assist and steals. As much as I’m impressed with his offensive game, it’s his defense that wont’ show up on the stat sheet. I challenged him to guard and ball deny Lakesides main faciliator and scorer and he frustrated him so bad that the coach had to take that guy off. On top off that, using his energy to play defense and then to come up with that offensive statline is a very very impressive performance.

Coach: Charlie Smart
Won against Binar Maali (72 – 60)
Coaches Notes
Very exciting to come away from our first home game of the season with a win against Binar. Again, the highlight was undoubtedly the team connectivity, positivity and support. Even in moments where they could easily drop their heads or go quiet, they choose to lift each other up. On the court and on the bench they all remain loud, supportive and engaged. Although a more physically challenging game, the team remained composed, picked each other up and dug deep with an impressive what’s next mindset which contributed greatly to minimising any run from the Binar team.
Their court spacing continues to improve, assisting with opening up more options offensively and smarter decision‑making. There are definitely areas to continue to build on which will elevate the team’s overall poise, however, the steady, visible improvement week after week is exciting to watch.
Player of the game
Our player of the round goes to Grace. Grace had a very strong game not just in points where she dominated with 30, including 6x 3s, but she worked extremely hard in every aspect of the game from ball up. Her vocal leadership was encouraging and supportive of her teammates whilst on the court and oozed positivity whilst on the bench. Grace ran the floor well, drove with purpose, fought hard in defence and was instrumental in pulling the team together for huddles as well as quickly shifting her own focus to “Whats next”
Well done to all teams and we look forward to round 3!
