Ruby Chang (U16 Girls Team 4) – Ruby was outstanding in this game. She has been working really hard to improve her lay ups and outside shooting and it was so nice to see her rewarded in this game. She worked hard to get to the basket and made some great floaters, totalling 23 points for the day. She worked hard across the court and never gave up. She’s an absolute gem to have on the team.
Ryker Mills (U18 Boys Team 3) – It wasn’t Ryker’s most efficient or complete game, but he again carried a significant offensive load and was a major reason we remained in the contest throughout the night. Finishing with 29 points, 5 assists and six made three-pointers, he consistently found ways to generate offence and punish the zone when opportunities presented themselves. Equally important was his willingness to keep attacking and creating for teammates, helping the group record one of its better offensive performances against Slammers this season. When we needed a score, Ryker repeatedly stepped up and provided it.

A solid game to close out a fantastic development season from a group of 8 and 9 year olds, some of which hadn’t played basketball before. Once again coming up against a bigger and older Lakeside team. We played even time on Sunday with every girl giving it their all. I asked for sweaty red faces at the end of the game, the girls delivered, leaving nothing behind. Again we mixed up our roles, ensuring development across the board. Winning has not been our primary focus this season, ensuring we develop a strong base of fundmentals and depth, to grow quality long term basketballers is. Along with this we have learnt how to be gracious in defeat, an important trait. Next year we will step it up, and by our final year in U12 I have no doubt that we will be matching it with the best. Well done on Sunday, and well done on a great season girls!
Player of the Game
Our player of the round this week goes to Mia Scardifield. Mia is completely new to basketball, and getting thrown into rep level basketball has come with its challenges. On Sunday I noted some of Mia’s resilience and hard work paying off, putting on her best game of the season. She held her structure on the court well, was quick to transition into defence, and wasn’t shy bringing the ball into the offensive half. Stay focused Mia, you’re on the right track. Well done. Special season close mentions to Zoe (only girl in our division to make a 3 pointer!), and Evie (for cracking 100 points for the season!). Well done to all of the girls as we close out our first WABL chapter.

We had some really good moments in this game, the boys were driving to the basket and our defence was solid, we had trouble converting into scoring, which is what really let us down. But a strong week from the boys.

Player of the game this week was Ian, he consistently drove to the basket and never stopped trying for rebounds, intercepts and getting shots up. He was our top scoring by a mile this week and played such a solid game.

The team came together beautifully in our final game of the season, with the first and fourth quarters being particularly impressive. Teamwork was strong, with players making unselfish, accurate passes down the court and creating numerous scoring opportunities through assists. Rebounding was aggressive, with players never giving up until they secured the ball.
Theo turned the fourth quarter around with his determination to attack the ball from behind, while Emmanuel stepped up defensively. Ryan returned to form and brought his A game. Blake showed excellent offensive control, and Ashton stepped up in the second half, making strong leads and reading the play before passing or attacking. David’s rebounding continues to improve, with strong passes out of the key. William lifted his defensive effort in the final quarter, shutting down key opposition drives. Andrej played a strong defensive game with effortless rebounds, while Mason rebounded successfully against opponents twice his size and showed excellent control and shot selection.

Player of the Round went to Andrej Glogovac, who returned to top form when his team needed him most. Andrej was strong under the basket, securing important rebounds and showing determination on both offence and defence. His shot selection was excellent, and he executed his shots with confidence and success. His developing resilience, composure and positive mindset made a valuable contribution to the team’s performance.

A really positive game from the girls against Willetton this week. We went down 57–43 but honestly I was really pleased with how the girls played and it felt a lot closer than some of our previous games against them. Considering we gave away a 8 point head start before we scored our first two points.
There were some massive improvements in the numbers too. In our first game against Willetton we had 60 scoring opportunities and got up 51 shots, yesterday we created 70 opportunities and got up 61 shots, including 30 attempts at the rim.
Probably the biggest improvement though was on the boards. We actually outrebounded Willetton 52–46 and picked up 25 offensive rebounds, which is a huge step forward for us and something we’ve been working really hard on.
We also got to the line 16 times compared to their 7, so the girls were definitely being aggressive and getting downhill.
Still plenty to work on, particularly finishing around the basket and looking after the ball, but this one definitely felt like a step forward.
Really proud the girls competed hard all the way to end of the game.
Player of the game
This week’s Player of the Game goes to Neve, who put together a really strong all-round performance. She competed hard defensively, attacked the boards and brought great energy all game, finishing with 5 rebounds including 4 offensive.
Special mention to Eunice who was absolutely dominant again with 18 points, 14 rebounds and 6 steals.
Also a big mention to Harper. The shots didn’t fall for her this week, but her ability to create opportunities and keep our offence moving was really important all day, while also pulling down 10 rebounds and adding 4 assists.

A super slow start from the girls this week, with the shots just not wanting to drop and a few frustrating no calls making it a tough game to settle into. But what we loved was the way the girls kept fighting and, most importantly, stayed together as a team. Our teamwork was fantastic this week, and it really showed when we needed to lift in the final quarter. We came out firing in the last, putting up 22 points to their 6 and finishing the game with a huge push. This is the exact matchup we’ll face in our first finals game, and while we didn’t quite play the way we wanted to today, that’s okay, we now know exactly what we need to work on at training and where we can improve. Finals basketball is coming, and we’re ready to put the work in!

Judeena had a fantastic game this week, putting together another great defensive performance! She did an awesome job pushing her player towards the sideline, applying pressure and making things difficult every time they came down the court. It was also great to see her get a few shots up and play with confidence on offence!
Every week, our Player of the Game could genuinely go to multiple girls, and that’s something we’re really proud of. It’s not always about who had the “best” game out of the whole team, it’s about recognising who had their best personal game and showed improvement, confidence and effort. This week, that was Judeena!

Facing the top team with 7 players was always going to be a hard challenge. Despite this, the girls tallied their highest score against them this season as well also cutting the last margin against them by 20. We had some really good patches of play, swinging the ball to the open player, making our shots, and playing high intensity defence. Our rebounding against a much taller team was also better than usual. The girls have improved so much this season.

It was an all round effort from the team this week, really hard to pick someone but Felicity stood out the most. For the second week running, she’s finding driving lanes and aggressively attacking the defence creating for herself and others. This also lead to her getting the free throw line a lot to which she made 7 of. She was vocal on court, setting the team up with our inbound and baseline sets and also crashed the boards well starting numerous fastbreak chances.

A great game all round to secure a much-needed win going into finals next week, which will give us confidence. The game started out as a tight struggle, with our opponents finishing at the basket under pressure to take a 9-point lead at the break. The second quarter was even, with improved defensive intensity and ball movement, we were able to match their energy. The third quarter was the difference, with some inspired play by Declan, Kirath, Fletcher and Emmanuel, we took control of the game forcing turnovers and finishing off opportunities at a high rate. This brought us from 10 points down during the quarter to be even going into the 4th. The boys continued to be resilient, playing strong defence and playing with confidence on offence. In the closing stages of the game Rockingham hit a three-point basket to tie which was immediately answered by Declan, who hit a clutch 3 with only seconds to go. A bench tech and unsportsmanlike foul by our opponents saw Declan drain 2 out of 3 free throws to give us a five-point lead. Rockingham was able to force a turnover in the final seconds and hit a 3, which narrowed the gap to just two points. Well done boys, we have been due a full game like this and you were rewarded for your hard work!

Player of the round was surprisingly still not a completely easy choice with great games from Declan, Ashton (9 pts, 10 Rebs) and Kirath (13 points, 5 steals, 3 Ass). However, Declan stood tall in this game, contributing to over 50% of our total score with 19 points and 7 assists, as well as the great clutch moments at the end of the 4th. Declan, you should be proud of your dominant game and your increasing importance to the success of the team. Well done!

We started in style, with fast ball movement, good ball movement inside, and plenty of scoreboard pressure. The boys also worked hard to crash the boards at both ends of the court. Our pressure was effective early, but the Redbacks responded strongly in the second quarter, putting together a 25–9 run and putting us on the back foot.
The second half was tough, but the boys never stopped working. They fought their way back to within three points in the fourth quarter before the Redbacks managed to pull away and secure the win. Despite the result, there was plenty to be proud of in the effort, pressure and fight shown right until the final siren.
Player of the Game
Player of the Round goes to Cooper Pearson, who put together a fantastic all-round performance at both ends of the court. Cooper was strong defensively, crashed the boards hard, and stepped up offensively when it mattered most, finding the bottom of the net with some important baskets.

This was a tough one… both teams were in foul trouble, the game was tense, and for long stretches we just couldn’t buy a bucket.
We created chances, attacked the rim and fought hard on the glass, but we couldn’t convert enough of those opportunities or match Willetton at the free throw line.
The 3rd quarter showed the response we wanted. We lifted our energy, found some momentum and started to work our way back into the game. For a stretch, it felt like we were closing in on them.
In the end, we ran out of steam, too many turnovers and underwhelming free throw shooting.
A disappointing result, but a valuable one. Games like this show the commitment required, the standard we need to reach, and the details we need to keep improving.
We’ll re-group and come back better next week as we head into finals.

Aliyanna Awino: Ali gets the nod this week for the energy she brought when we badly needed someone to lift us.
She finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 2 deflections, including 2 made 3 pointers at important moments. In a game where we just couldn’t buy a bucket Ali stepped in, backed herself and helped give us life offensively.

In the final round of the season, we came out strong in the first quarter, taking an 18 to 9 lead. Rebounding let us down in the second quarter, giving the Wolves a sniff. In the third we put the clamps on, coming together on defensive to get the job done.
It was another impressive display at the right end of the season. We hope to carry over our recent strong form into the first round of the finals, as we face a dangerous Tigers squad.

Ava Zu. In yet another dominant performance, Ava showed her value contributing to all facets of the game. Her trademark defensive ball pressure smothered opposing guards, giving them fits all day. Ava was outstanding as a lead point guard, drawing help and making the timely pass to advantage. Though she top scored with 18 points, maybe her most eye-popping quality was her tenacity chasing rebounds. She was everywhere in this game. Amazing efforts, Ava!

An awesome win to finish what has been a great regular season. Our team basketball was on full display this week, with everyone contributing and trusting the way we want to play.
We came out firing with a 22–4 opening quarter, and incredibly, eight of our nine players had already scored by quarter time. It was a fantastic example of sharing the ball, creating opportunities for each other and playing team-first basketball.
We allowed the lead to slip back to just six points at the main break, but the girls regrouped, trusted our system and finished the game with an impressive win.
It was a fantastic way to finish the regular season and a great reflection of how far this group has come. Most importantly, it gives us exactly the confidence boost we need as we head into finals. Now it’s time to take everything we’ve built throughout the season and bring it to finals basketball.

Team. With so many great individual performances, it was incredibly difficult to pick just one Player of the Game this week, so this one goes to the Team.
The way the girls connected, trusted each other and played for one another showed that we are ready for finals basketball. Everyone contributed in their own way, whether scoring, defending, rebounding, creating opportunities or bringing energy from the bench.
This performance showed what we can achieve when we play as a group, trust our system and take it to our opposition.

Mandurah Black are sitting top of the ladder and we knew this was going to be a tough, physical clash. We came out of the blocks quickly, adding 6 points before they scored but they settled and made some beautiful shots to finish 8 points ahead. We fought hard in the second, going down by 4 points but the physicality of the game and the foul count took a toll and the third quarter, usually our strongest, hurt us on the scoreboard. This left us 32 points down. In the final quarter the girls were challenged to rise above and find the fun again. They each chose something to try that they wanted to achieve in the season. Allaina hit a 3 pointer, Gisele made a beautiful spin move to the basket, Ruby dribbled between her legs to change direction up the court. It was a fabulous end to the game. And funnily enough, we only lost that quarter by 5 points. We lost a player early to illness and the others stepped up to fill this rotation. The foul count went against us and we had 2 players fouled out in the final quarter. It was tough and our girls showed incredible character. We play Mandurah again next week in the finals and we welcome the opportunity to play them on a neutral ground. We aren’t done yet.

This was a really good contest between two teams sitting in the top four, with the margin staying incredibly tight throughout the entire game. While we weren’t able to close it out, it was a great opportunity to gain some valuable “finals-like” experience ahead of the real thing this weekend.
We continued to build our ability to apply increased pressure, which is going to be really valuable for us during finals. We also proved that our end-of-game set plays are creating good scoring opportunities, even though we haven’t been able to knock down the final shot in our last few games.
Alijah and Kyan led the scoring with 15 points each, followed by Preston with 14, Austin with 12 and Chad with 11. I’m really loving the number of options we have on the offensive end and the way different players are stepping up and contributing.

A really difficult decision this week, but I’m giving Player of the Round to Preston Massam.
Preston has been working hard on his game, and that hard work really showed this weekend. His improved effort and intensity on the defensive end was fantastic to see, while offensively he did a great job of working hard to get himself into good scoring positions and finished with 14 points.

To walk away from a game that we didn’t hold ourselves accountable to our standards with a 5 point win after being down 20 points at halftime is a positive for the team.
The team had to step forward and show some resolve to grind out that result. It was a good educational opportunity and timely reminder heading into finals that if we fail to hold ourselves accountable to the standards we have in place for the team that our discipline and structures fall away quite quickly.

The boys went down 86-83 to Slammers in our final regular season game, but there were plenty of positives to take away heading into finals.
Coming into the game, a major focus was improving our ability to attack Slammers’ disciplined 2-3 zone defence. The group responded well, creating better paint touches, moving the ball effectively and generating quality scoring opportunities throughout the game. Offensively, this was one of our strongest performances against Slammers this season.
Unfortunately, the difference came in the possession battle. While we forced tough shots for long periods, we didn’t consistently finish defensive possessions, allowing too many offensive rebounds and second-chance points. Combined with a handful of costly transition scores, it proved enough to swing a closely fought contest.
There were several strong individual performances. Ryker continued his great form with 29 points, Tom J and Raff provided important contributions against the zone, and the group showed continued growth in areas that have been an ongoing focus.
While the result wasn’t the one we wanted, the game provided valuable lessons and confidence that our offensive progress is heading in the right direction as we prepare for finals.

Considering we were low on numbers the boys played well and were in the game, trailing by 10 at half time. After a bit of a slow start in the 3rd quarter we rallied and were able to finish off the game. Not the result we were after but we look forward to next week’s first round of finals.

We handled the loss well.
Down 22pts the biggest take away is we managed to get back to within 9pts and made a game out of it was a massive positive. It’s been a successful season considering our goal was just to make finals and we succeeded in that. Ideally would have finish 3rd but the loss took us down to 5th and we will have to go through the 2 most in form teams since post break to just get to the GF.
Seeing a certain rotation worked as well will give us another lineup for Sunday against Hills.
In conclusion, a wonderful season with lots of growth individually for the players, and now it’s just trying to extend this experience by winning just 1 more game.
We will win on our terms, and lose on our terms.

Player of the Game
This was Tom’s 3rd game back since the injury and that 4th qrt gave us something to consider going into next week. Him along with Jayden kick started some aggressive physicality and got us back to within 9pts. Not only that he also ran more then 6 minutes, which is far past his quota of 2-3 minutes.
His best game to date and we will need that if we are to extend it to one more game.
