Skye Thomas – (U21 Girls Black) – In what was arguably her strongest performance of the season. Skye was everywhere, not only did she put up a massive 42 points, but she truly embraced everything that had been asked of her. Skye chased down Hills on a fast break with impressive speed and hustle, applied constant defensive pressure, and forced multiple turnovers with her intensity. She was aggressive in attacking the rim, consistently getting to the free throw line, and also showed great court awareness by setting up her teammates creating high-quality scoring opportunities. She truly embraced the “what’s next” mentality, took the game head-on, and gave everything she had.
Raymond Tafira – (U16 Boys Black) – Raymond delivered a near-perfect performance this week, playing with outstanding efficiency and impact. Through our weekly goal-setting around chasing double-doubles, he’s beginning to unlock his full potential and it showed. His increased activity, both on the floor and in the air, has become the cornerstone of his renewed focus and leadership on court. The result? A dominant, all-round display that set the tone for the team. Let’s chase another double-double next weekend. Stay locked in, well done.

The score is not a good indication of how the girls played. Yesterday, we had a great game. Willetton was just able to put more on the board, and that happens when we’re mostly shorties! The girls excelled in team basketball yesterday, a key concept I stress to them every single week. Less dribbling and more passing this week, we did well with outlet passing and moving the ball to open space. Not the end result we wanted, but it was still a game I am proud of.
It’s tough at the moment for these girls, having every team tower over us each week. But my girls never give up. The girls responded to feedback instantly, going back on court and doing what was asked. Keep working hard, girls! We’re so proud.
Player of the Game
Izzy Salmon! Iz brings the heart and soul to the team, both on and off court. On the bench, she cheers on every player, encouraging her teammates to succeed. On court, she’s the energy, as soon as she steps on, it’s 100% effort. She had a great game yesterday. She was more confident, remained calm, and held the ball when needed. We’re working with Iz on her ball-handling skills, and she made all the right decisions on Sunday, with only a few minor turnovers. She took some good drives, creating gaps and was able to score of one. Izzy even knocked down some free throws after taking a big hit to the face. I see how hard you’re working, Izzy, and I couldn’t be prouder.

We had beaten East Perth twice this season so this was a very winnable game, but it ended up being an opportunity missed. We played good defense, rebounded on both ends, limited our turnovers and forced some. The one thing we could not do was put the ball through the hoop. A 7 point first quarter was followed by a 3 point second. Despite this we were only down by 12 at half time. The margin blew out to 22 by three quarter time after a 6 point quarter and although we managed to score 16 in the last quarter the damage was already done. East Perth’s defense was not causing the misses – we were getting great looks, but just not finishing them. It’s tough to watch a game that feels like we are in control, but look up at the scoreboard to see we are behind. This is how the game goes sometimes, so we will need to lock in next week with more energy and hopefully make some more shots.

Defence was our main focus as Perry Lakes can score. The team played a consistent defensive game and kept a lot of pressure on ball movement and forcing tough shot selection, the bonus being we managed to do this while keeping the foul count low, which has not always been our strength.
Offensively we pushed the ball up the floor and stretched their defense with our half court ball movement. We managed to outscore Perry Lakes for the first three quarters, but ran out of some steam in the fourth to go down by 3 points. Game had no impact on our ladder position, was an improvement on our last contest with Perry Lakes and provides good momentum coming into the finals as they are 2nd on the ladder.

Player of the game is Tane Broadwith, for controlling the pace of play and not rushing any shots. As well as consistent close out on all their ranged shots. Tane always turns up ready to play at the highest level with plenty of energy and a positive mindset. This provides great leadership to his team mates who feed of his energy each week. Well done Tane.

This week we took on a familiar foe in Lakeside White for the third time this season, with the record tied at 1-1. Our boys opened up the game very strong, putting on excellent defensive pressure, giving us a 16-4 quarter-time lead.
The focus of training during the week was learning to make good decisions under the pressure of a full-court press. When the Lightning came out with their press in the second, it was a great opportunity to put this into action in a game situation. Unfortunately, some of us defaulted to old habits of putting the ball straight on the floor, dribbling to the sideline, and playing “hot potato” when the pressure was on – not what we had been training. Some other issues were the predictability of our passing, and a lack of aggression in half-court offense. Both things we need to improve heading into finals.
The boys were challenged to stand up and play for each other, and they responded well finding enough to secure the win in the end, moving to 2nd place in the standings with one game to go. They have all come so far this season but haven’t hit their ceiling yet as a team. It is now crunch time and an opportunity for those that are hungry for success to rise to the occasion awaits. Exciting times ahead!

This week, we didn’t award a player of the game. Heading into finals it is going to take everyone to step up as a team, and this week was a great example of that. Sometimes it’s a grind, like it was this week as we struggled to generate offense in half court. However, our defense was sensational, giving up just 36 points, the lowest total all season. This took a committed and focused effort from all the boys. The support and energy from the bench in the last quarter also really helped us get over the line. So instead of one player getting pizza – we all get pizza this week at training!

I’m proud of the fight we showed this week with a short rotation of only 7 players. When we got ourselves into early foul trouble it could have gone sideways really quickly. However to their credit our whole group stayed engaged, doubled down on our effort and went to work. Heading into the half time break we were down 7 and feeling pretty good. I was particularly impressed with the energy from the bench and players stepping up to lead huddles during breaks. Offensively we created plenty of good looks, but giving up too many rebounds and turnovers hurt us. Wolves are a quality side and once again shot the ball well from outside, allowing them to pull away down the stretch as their shooters found rhythm. From the jump to the final whistle we were focused and connected, despite the loss a thoroughly enjoyable game!

Ellie Mullins & Indianna Billett – Ellie was relentless on the glass, finishing with 10 rebounds, 7 points, 3 steals and 1 assist. She gave us second chances, competed on every possession, and set the tone with her toughness inside. Indi brought composure under pressure, adding 7 boards, 2 steals, 4 deflections and her trademark impact that goes well beyond the stat sheet. They lifted the group with their effort and hustle, keeping us in the contest all game!

We put together a strong performance today and can be proud of how the group competed across four quarters. Our first half set the tone – Q1 (16–12) showed our intensity, and Q2 (14–6) highlighted our defensive focus, holding them to just six points while moving the ball well and creating good looks. Although we dominated, we missed some easy opportunities that could have stretched the margin further.
In the second half, the Eagles came out very physical and lifted their intensity, which caused a few errant passes and moments where the pressure got to us. To the team’s credit, a quick timeout and reset saw us regain our composure and keep them at arm’s length. They made a couple of runs, but the girls held strong, stuck to their team game, and refused to be rattled.
Q3 (9–10) and Q4 (10–10) were tighter contests, but our resilience, discipline, and willingness to fight for every possession ensured we closed the game on our terms. Overall, a strong team effort with plenty of positives to build on as we head into finals — this is the standard we’ll need to carry forward.

This week’s Player of the Game is shared, as the girls delivered an impressive offensive team effort with nearly everyone contributing to the scoreboard. Sandra Chan led with three 3-pointers for a game-high 11 points, Amelia Soka rose to the challenge with 10 points and strong finishes, while Eliza Prevett and Ruby Chang added 6 points each, and Hannah Fulton contributed 5 points, including a big 3-pointer. Combined with the team’s defensive effort and relentless hustle, the girls created constant headaches for the Eagles – a true all-round performance to be proud of.

We went into this game knowing we were going to be in for a fight given we were playing the top team. This was amplified even more by last outs with illness and couple coming down with illness. However this doesn’t stop our fighters and with only two subs they still put a up fight forcing the hawks to step up their game in the second we we clawed the margin back to a couple points. These girls continue to impress us with how far they have come since the start of the season and even being undermanned they managed to lose by less than last we matched up and cope with the pressure better. Overall this was another game where the score looks worse than the game itself.

This could easily go to any of the girls this week as they all played so well however I can’t go pass our power house under the basket Georgia. Her presence in the paint to stop easy goals and grab the rebounds make such a difference and she keeps bringing her game to the next level, scoring her first in game 3 pointer this week.

Going into the game we were in good form and the competition leaders would be our ultimate test, with them having lost only two games all season. A lesson in pressure defence saw us turn the ball over multiple times and some hot shooting from our opponents allowed them to create a sizeable lead. Resilience and playing the long game have been key to our success recently and we pushed back at them hard, winning the next three quarters and being within single digits in the 4th. Unfortunately, we were not able to close the gap. If it wasn’t for the slow start, things could have been very different. We will take these lessons into training this week and work on dealing with pressure in the backcourt and making good decisions with the ball.
Energy and belief allowed us to come back into the contest and as a team, we collectively played more physical on both ends, finishing strong on drives, finding open teammates and knocking down outside shots with confidence. Nathanael and Jason both had big games again, anchoring the defense, rebounding and finishing around the basket. The guards and wings put pressure on the opposition and looked after the ball better for the remainder of the game.
Player of the Game
Player of the round was tough, with a collective team effort in the comeback. This week I am going to award it to Frank, who played a pure point guards’ game, controlling the ball and putting our bigs in good positions to score from drawing defense and precise passing. Well done Frank, as more ball handling responsibility has been put in his hands with Zane being out from injury.

With 1st place already secured and 2 games remaining the main thing now is just running through the minutes and having no injuries. the game was a close one throughout with a pretty simple rotation of 5 on 5 off until the last quarter where we were down 1 and we said lets treat this last quarter like a finals and see if we can finish strong. Even though the intensity wasn’t as high, the effort from the boys were still there which is great to see. It had a very domestic feel for majority of the game until the last quarter. Kudos to all the boys for showing those hustle and effort which should be the norm.
Overall it was a good game, it will be something very similar with our last game coming up since they would possibly be the team we play in the 1st week of finals. Right now it’s all about no injuries, polish a little few things up and not showing our opponents too much.

In our third game against Perry Lakes, we went up 2-1 in a well-earned victory. The previous game ended in a tough loss at home, where we got dominated on the boards, 78-36, despite forcing 37 TO’s compared to our 15. This time, we kept it competitive, finishing with a rebound count of 55 to 49. We knew from the stats that securing rebounds was key to our chances. The girls really focused in during this game, effectively switching up our defences to keep the other team guessing, and it paid off. I was especially pleased with our shot selection, scoring from three different levels without being too robotic.
Carmen Nicole Robin faced some early foul trouble, a challenge with one of our enforcers out, but everyone stepped up to fill that gap. Charlotte Rose had a standout game with 9 rebounds, bringing the ball up the court with great composure. Eunice Ally-Anna played more aggressively, taking her chances, and Vattalanie Zita’s hustle and solid defence have her often being the first player called off the bench now. The entire team’s effort was fantastic, and I couldn’t be prouder of how we played. With 4 wins in the last 5 games, it brings validation to the girls I hope they’re seeing what I’ve seen in them from the beginning.

Shout out to Olivia Geraldine this week, who controlled the tempo well for us, finding all the right gaps. Defensively, she puts herself on the line for the team every week, importantly hassling the ball carrier.
However, Player of the Game has to go to Gabriella Joy. Her name perfectly captured the experience of watching her this week; it was a true joy! While her 3pt shooting is an absolute weapon, she didn’t rely on it this week. Gabbi was calm with ball in hand, weaving in and out of traffic, she skilfully controlled the ball, scoring important floaters when the hawks made their runs. Gabbi’s calm demeanour was a standout feature. Well done, Gabriella Joy! I’m so proud of you, kiddo!

Coming into finals, we’re focused on working together and executing our game plan. We started with an outstanding first quarter, dominating on D, closing the period with a 21 to 2 advantage. For the remainder of the game, we took advantage of our strong position and worked on various aspects of our tactical execution. The opposing coach made a point of applauding our tenacity on the defensive end. It’s been our calling-card all season and remains the one constant we can lean on when the shots aren’t falling. We had many strong contributors across the roster. Our team aims to keep improving on our execution at both ends as we head into the business end of the season.

Abigail Allan. Abby ran a clinic of patient offensive execution from the high post. She found cutters with precision, fired full court outlet passes, nailed 3s and locked down the key on D. Against a very tall Hawks team, Abby was crucial to our success at both ends. Abby continues to be a central figure for our team and is developing her all-round game week by week. This week seen us take on the top of the ladder wolves. Even without a full team all the girls gave a incredible effort on defence and offence . The girls intensity never dropped throughout the whole game and came up with either big plays on offence or defence throughout the game . It was a week were not one player stood out but the whole team.

The boys returned to the winner’s circle with a well-deserved away win over Willetton. We executed our game plan early, jumping out to a 10-point lead and holding it for much of the first half. Composure on offense and defensive activity created turnovers and scoring chances, sending us into halftime up by five. In the second half, we limited turnovers but still struggled on the boards, conceding too many second and third chance points.
Individual efforts shone across the roster. Raymond Tafira continued his strong form with a double-double (19 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals) showing great leadership. Ryker Phillips added his own double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, 11 coming after halftime. Llafton was electric, leading all scorers with 23 points on an efficient 8-of-11 shooting. Off the bench, Kieran Dunn and Prince Balila sparked us with 11 each, while Development Player Rishaan Billimora earned his first WABL starting five spot and contributed 5 points. A strong team performance and much-needed result as we build momentum for the final stretch. Next week we face the third-placed Warwick Senators at home in a must-win clash.

Tough game going up against 3rd on the ladder with three players out with illness. Despite getting good looks, we struggled to connect from the perimeter, making our only two 3pt baskets in the last quarter. This allowed the Slammers to sit back in a zone all game and clog up the paint. Despite our offensive struggles and limited bench, the boys managed to keep the margin competitive against a quality opposition.

Another one of those games where we give up a lead in the first quarter. Early in this game we struggled to contain their bigs with their high/low movement and they were scoring pretty heavily against us. At half time we re-grouped and came up with a better strategy to contain them and it worked. We kept them to just 3 points in the 3rd quarter and 11 points in the 4th quarter, while we scored 28 points to close out the game. We struggled with some of our structured offence, so we will be working on that during training to tidy that up.

On Sunday we played 2nd placed Rockingham, in summary, we had difficulties scoring, but we were solid in some areas of the game. I was pleased that in patches we stuck to our planning, creating chances to score, we just shot the ball poorly. Regrettably we managed a season high 32 TO’s, which won’t win games against top Teams. The stats were unflattering, however, Adam’s 10 rebounds stood out, Reuben & Sam returning 0 turnovers helped & Will managing his fouls to close the game helped morale. Some players increased their shot volume, which I’ve been asking for, however under the pressure of a fast game, unhelpful habits returned. We were competitive in the 1/2 court offensively & defensively but we were beaten in transition as the game wore on, particularly in the 4th. We managed to close the margin to a respectable single digit gap in the 3rd, but height & speed won out, & the scoreboard didn’t show our potential. We prepared well during the week, with Coaches preaching ‘heart over height’, but we couldn’t get it done. Several players in this Team have experienced WABL success, so as we finish the season, I’d like to see their experience/ leadership. We’ll challenge another top Team next week & try to grab that last finals spot.

We were a little outgunned & were missing Kyan’s versatility, but Adam battled, playing large minutes & multiple filling holes. Adam played 3 different positions defensively & initiated effective offensive spacing/ screening for his Team. At several time outs he was given specific instructions & he’s credited with executing well out of each huddle. Adam had the equal most assist attempts, which is a profound stat for the position he plays! I expect Sunday was a difficult game to participate in, as things didn’t go our way, however Adam gave motivation & positive feedback to his Team, despite the unlucky calls & what was reflected on the scoreboard. Adam, you represented our Club very well!

After defeating Lakeside in our previous matchup, we entered this game with confidence. The opening minutes were tightly contested, but luck wasn’t on our side as shots we usually make just wouldn’t fall, especially at the rim. Lakeside, meanwhile, came out hot from beyond the arc, sinking four threes in the first quarter to build an 11-point lead. We found our rhythm in the second, trading baskets and narrowing the gap to 9 at halftime. The third quarter saw Lakeside start strong again, scoring 10 of the first 11 points and hitting another four threes. Still, our girls showed resilience, clawing back to trail by just 9 at three-quarter time. We started the final term strong, cutting the deficit to 4, but couldn’t maintain the momentum as the game slipped away late. Despite the loss, it was a gutsy performance that reflects how far this team has come. They never stop fighting, and that’s all you can ask for. With one regular-season game left, our focus is on really enjoying these final weeks of the season together.

Her versatility was on full display, as she battled inside for rebounds and stepped out to knock down key shots. Jess did a bit of everything, showing composure, hustle, and leadership throughout. In a back-and-forth battle that came down to the last couple of possessions, the Eagles edged past the Eastern Suns 80–77 Both teams made 30 field goals, but the Eagles attempted 85 shots to the Suns’ 82, finishing 35.3% (30-of-85) to 36.6% (30-of-82). East Perth’s 11-of-39 mark from deep (28.2%) edged the Suns’ 6-of-27 (22.2%), a decisive margin despite the Suns 54–49 rebounding advantage and superior free-throw shooting (11-of-17, 64.7% vs. 9-of-24, 37.5%).
Where the game was largely lost was defensively, the Eagles forced 19 turnovers, collected 17 steals, and blocked six shots, its another game where our turnovers were costly, but the team really rallied in the second half and showed some grit , determination and resilience to fight back and make this a one possession game at the end of the fourth.

We came into this game with some clear objectives after the ladder leaders gave us a lesson last time we played (40 point thrashing). The boys came out hard and took it up to them the entire game, A little better accuracy in the first quarter and this game would’ve been ours. We were super disciplined breaking their press and the pressure we brought all game was incredible. Super proud of the teams efforts this week and with two players due back from injury any week we are primed heading into finals.

Zach led the scoring with 20 and was scoring with movement off the ball, Lionel led our pressure in the mid court and tallied up nicely on the board and it was great to see Sam bring some dominance back to the glass but our player of the game this week has to go to Val. Val missed the past few games to injury and the impact he brought in energy and toughness was outstanding. 17 points for Val and he was instrumental in setting up more scores for the team. Great to have you back Val!

The boys played a great game for most of the game unfortunately injures and foul trouble seen us lose the game by a margin far more than how the game was played.

Coaches Notes
Always going to be a tough game as we played top of the ladder Hills, at their home ground.
This game truly was a tale of two halves. We matched Hills point for point, securing a lead during the first half, to shake the ladder leaders.
Too many lapses in our help defence allowed Hills to stay in the contest. We adjusted or defensive to apply solid pressure, which kept the game tight.
Momentum shifted when Hills found their shooting rhythm, sinking ten 3s which allowed them to pull ahead in the second half. We saw our energy drop and this gave an overall result which wasn’t reflective of the game.
Offensively, we stayed aggressive, got to the line, and did a great job identifying our shooters early.
A game full of learning opportunities and celebrations where everyone had a solid contribution and played with grit. This team has come so far this season which is often overshadowed by a loss. We are only seeing the start of far they will go.
Special shout-out to Amber, who was outstanding throughout the game. She secured crucial rebounds, played with relentless aggression, and made some fantastic steals in the front court. Her work ethic running rim to rim didn’t go unnoticed, and she finished strong at basket.
Player of the Round
Skye – In what was arguably her strongest performance of the season. Skye was everywhere, not only did she put up a massive 42 points, but she truly embraced everything that had been asked of her. Skye chased down Hills on a fast break with impressive speed and hustle, applied constant defensive pressure, and forced multiple turnovers with her intensity. She was aggressive in attacking the rim, consistently getting to the free throw line, and also showed great court awareness by setting up her teammates creating high-quality scoring opportunities. She truly embraced the “what’s next” mentality, took the game head-on, and gave everything she had.
Well done to all teams and we look forward to round 16!
