Players of the Round:
Tamzin Wilsmore (U18 Girls Team 1) – Tamzin Wilsmore was all over this game, out rebounding girls twice her size, facilitating for her team and attacking the rim with aggression finishing with a very efficient 21 points. Her defense saw her come away with 4 steals and even a block, her improvement week on week continues to impress.
Tom Lishman (U18 Boys Team 3) – Tom Lishman takes out POTG after a performance built on toughness, discipline and relentless effort. With the team down rotations and battling foul trouble, Tom stepped up in a major way, playing the entire second half while applying full-court pressure and disrupting Lakeside’s ability to get the ball where they wanted. What made the performance more impressive was his discipline. Despite defending aggressively for 20 straight minutes, Tom did not concede a single foul. To go with his defensive impact, he was one assist shy of a double double throwing absolute dimes all day. When the game needed to be won, Tom’s energy, discipline and intensity helped set the tone for the group

Flawless game from the girls coming up against our training partners in the G3 team. Building on the previous week I asked for four quarters of high-defensive pressure and high-intensity basketball, and the girls brought it. The starting 5 set the scene, building a solid foundation. Each girl cycled through the game having a meaningful impact on the result. General skill and team work were particular highlights for me this week. The development is clear. Well done girls, lets keep building on this heading into next week against the Redbacks.
Player of the Game
Our player of the round this week is Evelyn Perazzo. While every girl played their role to a high-standard on Sunday, I cannot go past Evie who was on another level. She was unstoppable with ball in hand, setup her teammates all over the court, contested offensively and defensively, and scored 24 of the teams 41 points (G3 scored a total of 18). I certainly wasn’t expecting to see such a performance this year. If you keep working as hard as you are, while also making sure basketball remains fun, you will keep reproducing and exceeding these results. Well done Evie!

Round 14
With only two games left in the season, I love looking back and seeing just how much these girls have grown.
We had some great moments on both offence and defence today, and every girl stepped up and played her role.
One thing we need to keep working on is attacking against taller defenders. When they have size on us, putting up a shot with them right in our face isn’t going to be our best option. Instead, we need to retreat, create some space, look for the gap, and then drive and finish.
The girls continue to show confidence, teamwork and growth every week, and it’s been so rewarding to watch their development throughout the season.
Two more games — let’s finish strong.

Player of the Round
This week’s Player of the Round goes to Laura, who played one of her best games!
Laura worked hard defensively, getting in there and making a real impact, while also doing some great things offensively. She showed a fantastic attitude on the court, kept moving to create space and get open, and did a great job taking the right shots when the opportunity came.
A fantastic all-round performance, Laura — well deserved!

This week we had a tough game, we just didn’t have the spirit for the game. Senators came out fighting and we just couldn’t keep up.
We had some good moments, Jax had a good game, making some good runs at the basket and had a cracking defence. Harvey had some good goals.
We had some good moments of game play but couldn’t keep the run consistent.
Player of the game
Player of the game was Stephen, he was super consistent and he was our top scorer in the game, scoring 12 points. He was super clean and kept fighting even when he was tired. Stephen got a lot of game minutes but didn’t lag the whole game.

Each week you boys continue to improve, but so does every other team and this week’s game saw us get off to a slow start. I thought this could be the game that really challenges you all and this is exactly what we’ve been working on: keeping your calm, staying consistent and continuing to play the way I know you all can.
You picked up momentum in the second quarter, built from there and finished the game strong. You all worked hard, stayed together and fought for every possession, just like I know you can.
We’ve started the season strong, and I have no doubt we’ll finish the season strong too. Keep trusting yourselves, keep working for each other and keep showing the improvement you’ve been making each week.
Congratulations on a great game, boys! 👏🏀

🏆 Player of the Week goes to Isaac!
Isaac, your game this week was solid, and I was really impressed with how aggressive you were on defence. You created multiple turnovers and possessions in our favour. You kept your eyes up offensively, saw the better option and made some great passes to your teammates to help create scoring opportunities. You also had some fantastic drives and strong finishes at the ring.
This was by far your strongest game Isaac, and it was great to see your hard work and improvement coming together. Keep up the great work! 👏🏀

Coaches Notes
A tough day at the office for our girls, going down 68–38 to Perth in what was probably our most challenging performance of the season.
Perth’s defensive pressure caused us plenty of problems, and unfortunately we struggled to look after the basketball. When we executed our press break with patience and movement, we were able to get through their pressure and create some excellent opportunities, but too often we fell back into old habits. Poor passing, limited movement off the ball and rushed decisions resulted in far too many turnovers and allowed Perth to score easily in transition.
Despite the result, there were still positives. When we successfully entered our half-court offence, we created good looks and finished well around the basket, while Eunice battled hard for 15 points and 10 rebounds and Sophie added 10 points and 8 boards.
Not our day, but sometimes the difficult games provide the clearest lessons. Back to training this week to work on our passing, movement, composure under pressure and rebounding. Plenty to learn from and plenty of basketball still ahead of this group.
Player of the game
In a difficult game, Annie earns our nomination through her discipline, effort and commitment to doing the little things. Having worked her way into the starting lineup, she continues to show why she belongs there. Annie was the first player on the floor fighting for a loose ball and never looked overwhelmed by the occasion. Her work off the ball stood out, consistently guarding her player while getting back to protect the nail when needed. It won’t always show on the stat sheet, but it’s winning basketball.
👏 Honourable mention to Harper Dostal for continuing to battle and contribute across the floor.
Congratulations Annie!

A tough 7 point loss for our girls this week, but plenty of positives to take away! We came out firing and built a strong early lead, showcasing some fantastic team basketball and, as their coach acknowledged, “elite defence.”
The game was a challenging one, with the foul count sitting at 14–4 against us at one stage, making it difficult to maintain our momentum as we were all in foul trouble. Despite this, the girls continued to fight hard, stayed composed and put in a huge team effort right until the final buzzer.
With this being a team we could potentially face in finals, it was a great opportunity to get a look at the competition and learn what we need to work on moving forward. Plenty of positives to build on!

Coaches notes
I thought considering Warwick are the top team, the girls held their own and were pretty level in a lot of aspects of the game. The only thing that really let us down was our shot making in comparison to Warwick. We managed to bypass their press for majority of the game with smart ball movement but couldn’t capitalise on the outnumber that would create in our favour. Our rebounding as a collective was pretty solid especially with one of our best rebounders missing. Our defence also held solid for the most part, forcing Warwick into some tough shots or some prolonged possessions. It just shows how far the girls have come since the start of the season.
Player of the game
Jojo Wu
It felt like any time Jojo was near the ball something happened. She attacked the basket aggressively getting to her spots, scoring 15 points. Also navigated their defence well, driving and passing through the press well. Her effort on defence was also outstanding, always tracking back, while also putting on ball pressure on the opposition forcing them to make bad decisions. Jojo played a good all round game.

Loss against Perth Redbacks (57 – 58)
Coaches notes
We dug ourselves an early hole, giving up five offensive rebounds and finding ourselves down 4–12 to start the game. It was certainly not the start we wanted, but to the boys’ credit, they regrouped at quarter time and came out with a lot more fire and intent.
From there, we clawed our way back into the contest, showing plenty of fight, energy and resilience to put ourselves in a position to compete for the win. Unfortunately, a number of unforced turnovers and some lapses in execution when it mattered most ultimately cost us the game.
Despite the result, there were plenty of positives to take from the contest. It was a great, hard-fought game and exactly the type of challenge we need heading into finals. The intensity, physicality and pressure throughout the game will only help us as we continue to prepare for what’s ahead.
A big hats off to the Redbacks for bringing the energy and intensity for a 7:45am start — both teams certainly made it a great game to be a part of.
Lots to learn from this one, but plenty to be proud of. We’ll take the lessons, clean up the little things and keep building towards finals. 💪🏀
Player of the Game
This week’s Player of the Game goes to Alex Gerritsen, a kid who epitomises what it means to be a great teammate and stay committed to the process.
Alex hasn’t missed a training session or game unless genuinely unwell, despite knowing he may not suit up as a development player. His commitment, attitude and willingness to learn have been outstanding.
Since meeting Alex at trials last year, his improvement has been heading in the right direction. He stays ready, is a fantastic teammate from the bench, brings great energy and is extremely coachable.
Keep putting in the work, Alex — stay ready! 💪🏀 Thoroughly deserved! 👏

Coaches notes
A great game by the boys to really scare one of the top teams in the division. We had 1 key focus each on offense and defense and the boys executed the plan to perfection in the first half, pressuring our opposition into mistakes that turned into converted baskets. We were disciplined on offense, getting through the actions to create good looks. This resulted in a first half lead by 5 points. The third quarter saw our opponents convert some easy buckets and our scoring dried up, leading to a 20-6 quarter and facing a catch up in the fourth quarter. We battled hard in the fourth, keeping it withing striking distance but ultimately it was not enough to get the W.
It was a great sign to see us have everyone at training on Thursday and see what we worked on transitioning into the game. Defensive intensity from the boys was much improved and disrupted their offensive sets resulting in turnovers. There were some great teamwork moments in the game finished off by some hot shooting from outside or from strong cuts to the basket. The team should be proud of their efforts, especially losing one of our big men to a broken nose from an accidental elbow in the first quarter. Wishing you a speedy recovery Emmanuel!
Player of the Game
Some tough performances from Ashton (12pts, 5 Rebs) and Fletcher (6 pts, 6 Rebs, 2 Steals) in the absence of Emmanuel in the first quarter. Declan played a strong game and filled the box score (4 pts, 3 rebs, 3 Assists and 3 steals) but player of the round this week goes to a confident performance from Preston. He had 21 points on 5 from 7 three pointers and had some strong drives as the opposition started to close out hard on his jump shot. He also backed it up on the other end of the floor with 3 steals. A super game Preston!

Coaches notes
It was an intense week at training this week after some really tough results recently and the boys appear determined to finish the season out strong. Although the scoreboard this week doesn’t reflect the progress we have made, the effort on the court against East Perth certainly did. Each player gave his all this week. The teamwork was improved and the intent to keep playing the right way through to the final buzzer was evident. The boys should be proud of that effort despite the result. If they keep playing with intensity and the team first mindset, we can still finish the season on a high note. Stay focussed and close out strong!
Player of the Game
Some great efforts this week. including from Chase and Liam for bouncing back from last week. Keep challenging yourselves boys. Another consistent and reliable performance from Carter, great improvement this season. But the player of the game was Theo, with a relentless high-impact two-way game, top scoring with 20 points and making it hard for the Eagles on defense. Keep that level of effort up Theo!

Won against South West Slammers (61 – 59)
Coaches notes
Last time we met it was a 6 point win in OT at Kalamunda, this time we hit the road for an early game in Bunbury and it was a cold morning and a narrow 2 point win.
Thankfully we have continued with our fast starts and raced out to an 18-10 lead in the first quarter, driven by full court defense and pushing the ball in transition. This was essential for the win as the Slammers had to chase us for the remainder of the game, only clawing back 6 points in the next 3 quarters. The ball moved well in transition finding the open player and 9 players made the scoreboard which demonstrates our pass first mentatility.
Defensively we maintained pressure on the ball, and while we didn’t rebound well in the first half we made an improvement in the second half.
We struggled to get the ball to drop for us at times, although the shots taken were good. We also did not shoot that well from the free throw line, which was disappointing given we have made a focus of more free throws at training.
The boys composure at the end of the game was fantastic, as we were behind right up until the last minute and we scored to take the lead and played very good defence to deny Bunbury even getting off a shot. Great result.
Player of the Game
Arona Gopolang was at his toughest on defence and created havoc for the Slammers guards, causing turnovers, back court violations and only giving up 1 foul.
Arona also looked after the ball, created for his team mates and also knocked down 15 points. And that wins Arona the burger of champs.

Won against Perry Lakes Hawks (70 – 45)
Coaches notes
Last week we couldn’t quite get our offense going, and this week started in a similar way. Unforced turnovers and missed finishes saw us trading baskets early, without really taking control of the game.
Towards the end of the 2nd quarter things started to click. We cleaned up our decision making, found better rhythm and were able to create an 8 point buffer heading into the main break.
That momentum continued into the 3rd, where shots started to fall, our defensive pressure lifted and we were able to put the game out of reach.
It was really pleasing to see our turnover count come down this week as we controlled the game with more patient, purposeful offense. When we combine that with energy on defense, we become a very hard team to deal with.
We created good looks for multiple players and scored in a variety of ways, which are great signs as we look towards finals.
Player of the Game
Skylar Geary: Skylar gets the nod this week after a huge defensive impact game.
She finished with 11 points, 4 assists, 9 steals & 7 deflections. Her pressure set the tone for our defense. She made Hawks uncomfortable every time they touched the ball, forced errors and created extra chances turning defense into offense.
Honourable mentions to Dani with 15 points on efficient shooting, Vicky with 12 points, 14 rebounds, 3 blocks, and Ali with 9 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists.
A special shout out also to Sarah, who did a fantastic job on her defensive assignment, shutting down a genuine offensive threat. Her stat line won’t show the full impact, but she had a huge impact on winning.

Won against South West Slammers (74-52)
Coaches notes
Last time we played this tough Slammers outfit, we were unprepared for the physical battle ahead. Our girls were determined to not let history repeat. We came out strong in the first quarter firing, dropping 24 points, holding a 5 point margin. Throughout the match the girls didn’t let up, extending the lead to 8 at the main break. The third quarter is when we put the clamps on, limiting the Slammers to just 6 and extending the lead to 21. It was a dominant showing at both ends, with amazing defensive efforts by all. We managed to lock down the division’s top 2 scorers, forcing the opposition to search for answers.
Our recent form bodes well for our run home towards finals. The girls have come together and are starting to fully embody their desire to prioritise teamwork over the individual.
Player of the Game
Sonja Heyman – Sonja impacts the game in a multitude of ways. Truly able to guard all positions, she helped anchor our defence, stifling the powerful second top scorer in the competition. Sonja’s rebounding efforts set up our transition offense and help propel the team to a key win. She top scored with 16 points, draining 3 for 4 from deep. Impressive all-round game, Sonja.

Coaches notes
Once again, we spoke before the game about the importance of being switched on and ready to go from the opening tip. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to put that into practice this week and found ourselves having to work our way into the game.
The girls responded strongly, with our second and fourth quarters ultimately proving the difference and helping us secure a narrow win. The game was played at a high pace with plenty of energy and intensity from both teams, making for a great contest.
Our final quarter showed plenty of determination and belief, with the girls staying composed when the game was on the line. It was a fantastic game of basketball against our own Suns clubmates, with the result not decided until the final couple of minutes.
Another close game, another opportunity to learn, and importantly, another example of the girls finding a way to win.
Player of the Game
Taylor Orr. Taylor played a fierce game at both ends of the court and continued to bring her trademark energy even when she was on the bench. Her mid-range shooting was the absolute highlight of her game, converting opportunities created from her own rebounding as well as those created by her teammates. It was great to see the trust the girls have in Taylor, getting the ball into her hands and backing her to score. Her effort, energy and ability to contribute in so many different ways made her a deserving Player of the Game.

Loss against Eastern Suns (47 – 52)
Coaches Notes
The Suns derby did not disappoint. These two teams sometimes train together and have developed some great relationships. On game day this meant that the girls felt comfortable to give it their absolute all in what was a fun and highly competitive clash. Our team started strong, intercepting a number of plays and rattling Team 3. Unfortunately, this dominant start was not reflected by scorebaord pressure and we only finished two points up. Team 3 settled in the second quarter and pulled away by 10 points. Our team has never been one to back down and the third quarter belonged to us. We turned things around to lead by four points going into the final quarter. The pressure on the ball was intense with both teams battling hard in the final quarter. Team 3 managed to get back on top with some great pressure and shot selection.
Player of the game
Two players had standout performances for our team. Gisele was a workhorse and chased down every ball. She expertly broke the press and delivered great offensive opportunities for the team and also played really tight defence to limit the impact of some excellent opposition players. Eliza demonstrated her strength under the basket and help defence and her ability to read the ball, intercepting and setting up a number of turnovers.

We came up against a formidable opponent, we started off really strong creating stops defensively which generated us getting good looks on the offensive end, however a rev up from the opposition coach saw us get smacked in the 2nd qtr.
At half time we challenged the team and my proudest moment was the fact they never rolled over and competed right to the very end.

A tough day in the office. Honestly I thought we actually played quite well, but we just couldn’t put the ball in the hoop. In this game we shot 34% from the field which is our lowest of the season. Everything else tracked about the same as in games where we win – number of shots, turnovers, steals. It just came down to our inability to put the ball in the hoop.
Defensively we did a really good job keeping them to only 57 points for the game. This is the 3rd lowest score we have kept an opponent to for the season.
Alijah led the way with 15 points, Austin had 8 and Chad had 6
Player of the game
Alijah gets the player of the round this week. He came up against an opponent who was quicker than him and he struggled early to gain any advantage. He was able to adjust and take control of his matchup which kept us in the game right up until the end.

Won against Perth Redbacks (81 – 62)
Coaches Notes
Our game this week saw us take on Redbacks who we lost to in our previous game earlier on in the season. There wasn’t a lot we needed to change defensively as we did a good job last game as well but we only managed to score 45 points which was our lowest scoring game of the season. This week however all players got on the score board and for majority of the game there was great teamplay. There was a lot of highlights with some big blocks and incredible assists to set teammates up from all the girls which contributed towards our 81 points. Team chemistry and the support the players got from their teammates while on the bench was a pleasure to watch .
Player of the game
It is getting very hard to choose player of the round in the last few which is a good problem to have. This week’s player of the round is Holly Marsh. Holly was unstoppable this week offensively as she ended on 33 points consisting of 10. 2 pointers 2 three pointers and 7 freethrows. Holly has a motor that doesn’t just stop on offence as she gets right to work on the Defencive end straight after a score which has been infectious throughout the whole team.

The lads played awesome & it was an important win for the group, and the way we got it was really encouraging. We built a 12-point lead, then showed some real resilience when we went down by 2 with three minutes to go, before finishing the game strongly to get the 1-point win.
The biggest positive for me was seeing the boys stick to our team principles and stay connected at both ends of the floor. When we play with that level of trust, discipline, it really is awesome to watch and you can see what this group is capable of
The challenge now is consistency. We need every player to keep buying into those standards every game, regardless of the momentum or what’s happening in the game. If we can do that, we’ll keep putting ourselves in a really good position leading into finals
Player of the Game
This week’s nomination goes to the TEAM. Every player contributed, and it was great to see several boys in double figures, with Lionel leading the way with 25, Val with 22, Tadiwa with 16 and Sammy with 13. Won against Lakeside Lightning (107 – 91)
Coaches notes
The boys produced one of their most resilient wins of the season with a 107-91 victory over Lakeside, overcoming significant challenges throughout the game.
We made a flying start, forcing turnovers through our pressure defence and racing to an early double-digit lead. However, the game became increasingly difficult as rotations were disrupted by foul trouble and the loss of Amani early due to illness. With only eight players available, the group was forced to adapt and play extended minutes against a bigger opponent.
Despite those challenges, the boys showed tremendous composure. Rather than allowing the game to unravel, they improved their discipline after half time, competed strongly on the glass and continued to execute key elements of the scout. Our pressure around the ball and ability to limit paint touches from their key players proved decisive as the game wore on.
Special mentions go to Kobe, who delivered his best game of the season while playing significant minutes against larger opponents, and Ryker, whose 31 points helped keep the scoreboard moving whenever Lakeside threatened to build momentum.
With contributions coming across the lineup, the boys eventually wore Lakeside down to secure a well-earned win.
Player of the Game
Tom Lishman takes out POTG after a performance built on toughness, discipline and relentless effort.

Loss against Warwick Senators (83 – 89)
Coaches Notes
We had wanted to come out strong which we did and we built a nice 13-14pt lead into the half time break. The beginning of the 3rd I decided to change up the line up and run a new rotation with Tom (coming back from inj first time since round 5) and just seeing if we could get him some minutes to shake off some rust and get him going again. Warwick came back to within 3pts by the end of the 3rd and were the more physical team in that qrt.
We got ourselves down to an 11pt deficit and implemented the foul and 3 point game to familiarize ourselves with what might happen in the finals, we did a decent job getting it back to 7pts with possession, but didn’t make the shots down the stretch.
Overall, a good result base on a couple of things that was important for us, which was mainly to get some of the boys back in form. Seeing Arjun and Deacon finding their form, and Tom shaking a lot of rust off, meant we achieve what we wanted. Jayden McClure also looked solid out there which is another tick for our depth.
We will monitor the ladder with Hills facing top 2 in the final 2 rounds, pending their result first this coming week, will determine what result we want on our end.
Player of the Game
This is a real tough one this week with Deacon and Sam both having solid rebounding game. The biggest stand out from after the game was just how much they crashed the boards, and that 3rd qrt when both were off, we lost the rebounding battle and interior toughness.
I would say of the 2 it would have been one of Sam’s best game offensively with his aggression, so I would say Sam has finally broken through that shell of cautiousness and hopefully we can get that double aggression in the coming weeks before finals start.
