Rachel Moore – (U18 Girls Orange) – Rachel Moore is our player of the round this week. She leads from the front with calm composure and smart decision-making, and her growth this season has been fantastic to watch. Rachel top-scored for us this week and was relentless like a train, as she kept pushing forward, setting the tone for her teammates and never letting up. A well-deserved recognition for a strong performance. Keep it up, Rachel!
Malachi Daley – (U12 Boys White) – In a balanced team effort, it was hard to pick a single player of the game, however one stood out – Malachi Daley. Malachi was instrumental as the 3-man in our full court press and was able to make life miserable for Rockingham’s ball handlers when pushing up as a 1 & 2-man. He also made some great passes to get his teammates involved as well as scoring himself from all three levels. Keep it up Malachi, well done!

This was another solid team game, and it has been such a positive to have great defense from every player on the team. Defense again drove our offense, with sustained pressure on the ball movement we were able to create havoc on their scoring opportunities, force turnovers and pick up steals. This lead to a good transition offense and when we moved the ball and found the open players it was quality team basketball. Rebounding, and boxing out has been a focus, and we did a fantastic job on the boards in the first half, but we did not maintain that same work rate in the second, but I will take a good half, and hopefully we build on that. We are ramping up our efforts at training to build momentum leading into the finals.

One player was too hard to call in the end and I have rewarded both Nate Farrier (18pts) & Tane Broadwith (14pts) as the Players of the Game. Both players maintained our team energy, always nose to the ball hard defence. In offense they both passed the ball really well and also got themselves in a good position off the ball to be an offensive threat.

This week, the boys played a well-rounded game of team basketball in an impressive win a week after a challenging loss. Our focus areas at training included, getting back our dynamic O-trans, raising our defensive pickup points, and getting more creative in our half-court offense. We also are putting more emphasis on boxing out, with this helped by staying disciplined in our defensive assignments. All of this was much improved.
It was a tussle In the early stages, as despite our defence generating stops, we struggled to put the ball in the hoop. We were playing frantically, and some questionable shot selection at times meant we weren’t able to pull away on the scoreboard. In the second quarter, the Flames adjusted well to get over the top of our press and put our big guys in unfavourable situations at the rim.
The boys were able to make the defensive adjustments we asked of them at half time, highlighting their development in understanding the nuances of the game. They were also able to lift their defensive intensity in the second half maintaining this through substitutions. With our transition game clicking once more, the boys won the second half by 13 points, closing it out for a great bounce-back win.
Player of the round

Absolutely cracking game! Didn’t come away with the win but to come back when we were down by 20 in the first half was a pleasure to watch, the boys rallied themselves, pushed the tempo, trusted the offence will present itself and made defense our only priority. This saw the boys more than doubling our opponents score in both quarters, Lakeside had no answer for our strength, teamwork and intensity and had we applied this from the beginning the win would’ve been ours!

This was impossible to single out one effort as without each and every one doing their part we wouldn’t have achieved what we did, the positivity and cheering coming off the bench throughout the game made a huge impact in our performance. When they were on the court they all played the game of their lives, really honed in their strengths and pulled through together!

An impressive display defensively, we’ve been working hard on getting into the right spots on defence, and today show just how much our effort has come. Not only did Cockburn beat us by 1 during our last match up, but this is the second biggest point differential in our division this season.

Sophie Perazzo – Sophie remained extremely aggressive throughout the game, reading what the defence was giving making a read. Not only was she taking the right shots, but made the kick out pass when she knew defence had her covered. Getting into the right spots on defence and her rebounding effort prevented multiple second chance points. She finished season high 17 points, a fantastic effort.

We knew heading to Warwick it would be a physical contest, and it certainly delivered. A flat warm-up led to a slow start, and we struggled to find our rhythm. The girls worked hard all game, but scoring continues to be our Achilles heel—missing gettable shots and not always making the best team-first decisions. Our effort never dropped, but as the game wore on, frustration crept in. The physicality and some tough calls got into our heads, which impacted our composure and decision-making. Turnovers hurt us, and the Senators capitalised. When we did move the ball and play as a unit, we looked sharp and composed—but those moments were too few. Offensively, it was our toughest game this season—shots wouldn’t drop, and our usual aggression driving to the hoop was missing. When we needed a lift, individuals tried to respond, but the spark must come from the team. The positive? We know what this group is capable of. It’s time to draw a line in the sand and make these last few games count. It’s up to the girls to come together, play for each other, and stay consistent—in effort, execution, and support. If we do that, this team can still finish the season strong.

Zara Kwiatkowski continues to fly under the radar. She gives 100%, always puts the team first, and does the little things that matter. Her shooting has come a long way this season, and her defence is consistently solid. Special mentions to Amelia Soka, Sandra Chan and Eliza Prevett for contributing valuable points on the board. Abby Duggan and Imogen Chambers whose relentless pressure in the backcourt led to several steals and scoring chances.

This game was a tale of two halves. The first half saw our girls play the best basketball we have seen all season from them and saw us pull out a lead. Unfortunately for us Redbacks came out strong in the second half with matched intensity and grit. Adding to not having a full squad still we then had foul trouble and injury to contend with finishing the game with only one sub. Even though the score doesn’t show it we as coaches are so incredibly proud of these girls and they way they played.

Sophie and Georgia. Our twin towers and protectors of the paint. Both the girls played incredibly strong and while everyone could get it for some element these girls take it out. They both ran hard between the basket and were strong in defence and made the right choices in offence and finding the space.

A top of the table clash, and credit to Willeton they’ve improved alot since the early rounds and really gave us a test the entire game. We started slow and the shots were not falling today, but I have no doubt that right now we are the most ferocious defensive team in this division and again it was out defense that kept the score close before we eventually close the game out in the last qrt.
Austin had a Solid 10pts 5 rebs 4 blocks while Kian did a solid defensive effort last game against their very effective big while also collecting 10 REBOUNDs and a few bodies along the way with his screen and sending one kid to the stars for awhile.. clean might I add. Chandler finally showed the tenacity and intensity that has been asked for by being the first guy to be diving everywhere for the ball, Issac had a nice solid game running the point with some nice quick nifty passes. Preston returning after 2 weeks from a Flu was an impressive as you can asking for a player who had been out for that time to the point I was confident in closing the game with him.
Overall, we really needed this challenge, just to keep us sharp, alert, not to be complacent and this should keep us focus looking ahead to the finals

A Tough one as we had 3 players in mind but just on the pure effort of diving for the ball and putting his body on the line Chandler showed a different side of him this week. It’s been about 3 weeks since I’ve butted head with him over what his expectations is for me as a player on this team, and he showed up today.. and what a time to show up.. against a number 2 team.. he really really showed up and was aggresive hunting the ball, taking on a few players 1 on 1.. giving us a glimpse of that Chandler we had last 2 seasons and what he did sets the tone for everyone else to follow, 100% commitment to wanting that ball more then your opponent.

We started an early morning game off very slow, letting the Hawks get out to a 15 point lead at the end of the first. We stayed composed and slowly clawed our way back into the game, tightening up our defence and playing fast in transition, closing the gap to 9 points at the end of the half. Our third quarter we really pushed the pace, blowing them out 24-8 giving us the lead heading into the final period where we managed to hold on and through conservative basketball. Our bigs were huge again this week, all hitting double figures with a few others close too.

Player of the round is Issac data. Coming off the bench scoring a team high 13 points, made the difference between winning and losing this game. His energy was contagious as soon as he touched the floor, and he did the heavy lifting in transition opening up the floor for himself and others.

What a fantastic game for our girls this week! The last time we faced Perth at their home, they defeated us by 38 points. We’ve been diligently working on our defense and ball movement, resulting in our current standing as the third-highest scoring team in the league. However, we’ve been struggling defensively, so holding a team that previously scored 90 points against us to just 57 is incredibly satisfying.
For the second consecutive week, we’ve won the rebound count, and our efforts were crucial in limiting the opposition’s opportunities. Matilda Susan Rodman Little led masterfully with 16 rebounds. The team’s defensive focus was outstanding, especially after we adjusted our defensive strategies after the first quarter. This level of concentration required reflects our commitment to improvement, and it’s thrilling to see it pay off in games.
Id like to mention Matilda Susan again, whose toughness and leadership shone throughout the game and additionally, the defensive efforts of Carmen Nicole Robin, Olivia Geraldine, and Vattalanie Zita were instrumental in setting the tone for this team with their hard work on the ball each week.
Player of the Game
This week’s Player of the Game goes to Charlotte Rose Herbert! Charlotte Rose was a real spark for the team, showing tremendous buy-in defensively, which is a massive compliment to her already magnificent offensive skills.
She finished the game with 11 points, 6 rebounds, 5 blocks, and a team-leading +12 in the plus-minus statistic. Charlotte Rose hasn’t had the easiest time adjusting to the new team dynamic, but since returning from holidays, she has been a wonderful teammate during training and on game days, contributing greatly on the court. Well done, Charlotte!

In a tough scrap, we see-sawed through the first half and were within 1 point of the Hawks at the main break. Perry Lakes came to play and set the tone early. We had to match their intensity or we’d fall further behind. Unfortunately, they jumped ahead in the opening minutes of the second half and we were playing catch up for the remainder of the match. This game leaves us with clear areas to improve upon heading into the homeward stretch of the season. If our girls have shown anything, it is their ability to bounce back.
Player of the game
Lily Groth. Lily was challenged with a specific job at the beginning of the second half and executed it outstandingly. Her determination and discipline on the defensive end stood as a shining light to the rest of the team. Lily was selected to lead by example, with her relentless on-ball pressure and “never say die” attitude. She always shows a team first mentality and can be relied upon to do what’s needed. Awesome game, Lily.

This week, we let another winnable game slip through our fingers, but not without showing glimpses of the team we have the potential to become. Our preparation was solid, and it showed in the first quarter as we executed the game plan well and took a 7-point lead into the first break against the ladder leaders. However, familiar patterns crept in, and we surrendered our lead in the second quarter, heading into halftime down by 10. Shooting struggles, both from the field and the free-throw line were a key factor in the result. Despite that, we regrouped after the break and showed great character to win the second half. Unfortunately, the damage had already been done.
Next up, we face another top-of-the-table team. This week’s focus will be on sharpening our execution and playing a full four-quarter game.

This week’s Player of the Round goes to Connor Addis, who delivered his best performance of the season so far. Connor came alive in the second half, showing exactly what he’s capable of on both ends of the court. He was a force on the boards, collecting 5 offensive and 4 defensive rebounds, and added 8 points to the scoreboard. Defensively, he was just as impactful with 3 steals and a couple of strong blocks to cap off a well-rounded game. Connor’s hard work over the school holidays is clearly starting to show. The boys played some exceptional basketball for the first two and a half quarters. Some strong team defence made it difficult for Willetton to keep the scoreboard ticking over, while at the other end our ability to move the ball and find the open man was the best it’s been all season. To Willetton’s credit, they showed why they are on top of the ladder and brough the margin back to 2pts late in the 4th, however the boys held on strong to pull away victors.
Player of the game
Cal Kwe – this was the most difficult one to pick as we had multiple contributors at both ends of the floor. In the end Cal’s relentless pressure on defence, uncanny ability to intercept inbound passes, and strong shooting game made him hard to go past.

Prior to this game, Joondalup had only lost 1 game for the season. The first half was pretty tight even though I didn’t think we had played our best basketball. Unfortunately our offence wasn’t firing and we only scored 31 points for the half, but our defence was holding up and they were getting frustrated that they couldn’t score at their normal rate. We kept them to 32 points for the half which meant it was a 1 point game. Our second half we started getting our offense running and even though we scored 27 points, we let them score 30 so we were down 4 points leading in to the last quarter. This was helped by a big 3 from Tommy after an inbound steal with 2 seconds left on the clock. The fourth quarter was fantastic, we finally put both our defence and our offence together, forcing them to call a timeout in just 3 mins after we had taken the lead from them. From there we controlled both ends of the court and put together a 26-13 quarter to finish 9 point winners
Player of the game
Lukah gets the player of the game this week, in just his 2nd game in the starting 5, he top scored with 23 points and must have had at least 5 blocks as well. Ronron scored 15 and after a slow 1st half, really stepped up in the 2nd half to play the way I know he can. Tommy finished with 11 including three 3 pointers.

Cockburn deserve their position on the ladder. We played a good Team on Sunday. They were well coached, executed well & were without doubt the best shooting Team we’ve encountered this season. They were considerably bigger than we were, & we just couldn’t compete in the rebounding category despite who was on the court. Coach James & I lost track of how many second, third & fourth chance shots they got. We just couldn’t get our hands on the ball. To their credit, the Suns Blue unit responded well to the many defensive changes we made, & the Team were organized, given the amount of adjustments that were necessary to try & find an advantage. Despite a handful of obvious rotational misses, most of our defensive structures were executed well, which is very positive. We were beaten – no doubt, but for long stretches of the game we were organized & adaptable. We did make some positive inroads on the scoreboard at times, but the game was an unusual one with lots of stoppages, which made grabbing any momentum a little hard. No excuses, it wasn’t our best day, despite a really up-beat practice during the week. We’ll get back to practice this week & do our best to be better for the next outing.

This week, I can’t single out any one player—there were gallant efforts across the board. Instead, I want to highlight the positivity that emerged. Despite the score, our boys supported each other. No-one likes to lose, but their attitude was commendable. Some teams might have crumbled, yet our self-talk and teamwork stayed strong. Missed free throws were met with encouragement, tough referee calls were accepted, and substitutions were handled with dignity. One day, we won’t be playing together, but I believe these young men will carry these positive habits into their next basketball environment. That’s probably more valuable than a win anyway.

We had this game circled as we knew Willetton was going to be a challenge and would help us gauge where we were right now. We started off strong holding Willetton to 9 points in the first quarter, something no other team has been able to do this year. We moved the ball exceptionally well but failed to convert on our shot attempts and our energy and motivation to get back defensively left much to be desired.

Ana Vletter, a fantastic game defensively collecting well over 5+ steals and really putting her fingerprints all over this game. She was getting into the right locations and taking the right shots knocking down 2 in the first quarter.

We knew this would be a tough matchup against the undefeated Wolves, so one area we focused on was handling their press better – a key area that hurt us in our last encounter and something we worked on during training. The girls responded well, showing noticeable improvement in handling pressure. The final score line doesn’t reflect the full story, as we created plenty of scoring chances but were unusually untidy with the ball. I contrast, the Wolves were sharp and efficient, demonstrating again why they’re the top team in our division. Still, there were positives: we scored more than in our last meeting and held them to fewer points. Most importantly, the girls never gave up and played with determination right to the final buzzer. They should be proud of their effort and intensity.

The season break couldn’t have come at a worse time for us as we struggle to get back to the level of intensity and gameplay we had enjoyed all season. Some fundamentals missing for us us we continue to really struggle containing teams off the glass and in defensive transition. When we settle and played disciplined basketball Cockburn struggled to score and when we ran our offence we continued to get good looks at the basket. Unfortunately we had too many ’empty’ possessions and to give up 30 points on offensive boards and almost the same in scores off turnovers, is not the sort of stats you can win from. Still some encouraging signs – the second quarter was us at almost the level we need to be at and the mistakes we are making are easy to correct. Bring on the last few games!

Some strong contributions from a few of the boys today, Jackson bought structure and spacing every time he hit the court and always makes good decisions. Ashton battled hard through injury for his 8 points and 8 boards and Mauric bought some much needed energy every time he stepped onto the floor.
But our player of the round this week goes to Zach. Zach pushed the pace all day and was rarely beaten on the defensive end. Great effort for a game high 19 points

This week’s game saw us take on 4th on the ladder with players missing due to injury and sickness. The boys still competed for the whole game where we were outmatched for size. Our rebounding was better this game and the offence was good when the boys were moving off ball and making the extra pass.

After a tough outing last weekend, the team bounced back with an inspiring performance against the 3rd-placed Slammers on Sunday, pushing the game into overtime before narrowly falling short. The improvement in team cohesion was evident, with fewer individual plays and a much stronger collective effort on both ends of the floor.
Offensively, the girls showed great aggression and intent, attacking the keyway, collapsing the defence, and making early kicks to create high-quality shot opportunities. It was extremely encouraging to see everyone step up and contribute. Defensively we were more composed, read the threats early, and managed to limit the opposition’s scoring chances effectively especially in the second half when the game became a point for point battle. With a couple of players fouled out at the end of the 4th we simply ran out of legs during overtime, however the fight and growth shown by the group was undeniable.

Our usual suspects took the game head on with determination and pure grit and scored extremely well and absolutely need to be commended.
However, this weeks player of the round goes to Jorja. Jorja really stepped up and fought hard, securing incredible rebounds, great intercepts and played her strongest game of the season so far.
