Although ultimately a loss this week, I couldn’t be happier with the first quarter from the girls. They 100% matched it against girls 2-years older and a foot taller. We ended up 8-12 down in the first, but we actually lead for most of it. A parent from the Hawks pulled me up in the carpark after the game and commented on how much the girls had developed since last time we met. This weeks focus was all about playing with intensity and playing for each other, and they did exactly that. The next step of the journey is finding that consistency, if we can string 4 of those quarters together each week, we will become the team to beat. The development and growth this season has been immense, don’t forget where we started from girls (some of you were new to basketball). Keep it up, we’re all very proud of you, stringing wins together in the future will be all the more special once we get there.
Player of the Game
This weeks player of the round goes to Zoey Gloyn. Zoey played a stoic game on the weekend, helping to reset the teams structure, while giving 100% offensively and running hard back into a low post position. She is really stepping up as the court captain. Its obvious that Zoey has been putting in effort away from training, this is the level of commitment that is a must to be at WABL standard. Well done Zoey we couldn’t be happier for you. Special mentions to Evie, whose tireless endeavour to move the ball up the court each week must be commended, and Lily whose defensive game is moving to a new level.

We were missing three of our players, so our two development players stepped in and did a fantastic job. Coming up against the top team on the ladder, we knew it was going to be a tough game, but the effort was outstanding.
Offensively and defensively, we played well, made great shot selections, and competed right until the end. So proud of the way everyone stepped up and played as a team.

Ella was on fire this week! She really stepped up defensively, applying constant pressure and making some crucial stops. As always, she was outstanding in attack, showing excellent ball control, creating opportunities, and finishing with an impressive 6 points. It was a complete all-round performance and a well-deserved .

From this week’s game, one of the biggest positives was our ability to finish out a close contest and respond when the opposition made a run. Redbacks took the lead during the fourth quarter, but full credit to the boys—they stayed composed, steadied the game, and put together some outstanding defensive possessions when it mattered most.
Our defensive rebounding was a major factor. We finished each stop with the rebound, which allowed us to get out in transition and create easy scoring opportunities. Those transition baskets were important because they also gave us the chance to set our defence, preventing Redbacks from getting easy points the other way.
Overall, it was a really mature performance. Rather than panicking when the momentum shifted, the boys trusted each other, stuck to the game plan, and found a way to close out a tough game.

Player of the Game – Hukam Singh
This week’s Player of the Game goes to Hukam Singh. Hukam had a massive impact on both ends of the floor. His rebounding and defensive positioning helped us come up with some huge stops, which fuelled our transition offence. Offensively, he attacked the rim with confidence instead of settling for jump shots, and it was great to see him rewarded on the scoreboard for his efforts. His work on the offensive glass also gave us valuable second-chance opportunities. Hukam’s willingness to do the little things that often go unnoticed was a big reason for our win. Great work, Hukam!

We had a tough game this week, we were very slow to start and struggled to maintain a flow in the game coming right off a break we were a bit rusty.
We had some really good moments from the team. AJ scored us some great buckets and a really great 3. Jax who is always a weapon on defence brought some great offence to the game this week and scored 12 points.

It was great to get back out on the court with the boys after the break as we kick off the second half of the season. With finals just around the corner, every game is an opportunity to improve and build momentum.
The boys came out strong in the first quarter, playing with great intensity and teamwork, which proved enough to secure the win. While the game became a little tougher after that, there are plenty of positives to take away. Our focus now is on maintaining our composure, staying mentally strong, and playing with the same intensity for all four quarters.

Despite a slow start, the team showed great resilience. The first quarter was disappointing, with the group appearing flat emotionally and physically and not matching the game’s intensity. We also missed opportunities by not using the backboard effectively and failing to attack available driving lanes. After regrouping, the response was outstanding. The remainder of the game was played with energy, determination, and excellent teamwork. Our aggressive play on both offense and defense created momentum, and once we attacked the basket with confidence and used the backboard more effectively, our scoring improved. Ryan delivered a strong all-round performance. David’s excellent rebounding made a big difference under the basket, creating valuable second-chance opportunities. Ashton’s accurate passing led to effective ball movement and numerous assists. Emmanuel’s determination and aggressive drives lifted the team’s intensity. The way the team responded after the first quarter was very encouraging and provides a strong foundation to build on.

Emmanuel earned Player of the Round with an outstanding performance, maintaining high intensity for the entire game, even when visibly fatigued. He consistently found gaps in the opposition’s defense and attacked them with skill, speed, and precision. Defensively, he stayed committed, applied strong pressure to the ball, and disrupted the opposition’s play. Emmanuel worked tirelessly to create leads in key areas and never stopped competing. Despite being one of the smallest players on the court, his determination and courage were evident as he battled for rebounds against much taller opponents, making a valuable contribution to the team’s performance.

The girls should be incredibly proud of how far they have come. After giving South West a 10–1 start, we fought our way back, led for much of the next 3 quarters and gave the higher placed team everything they could handle on their home floor. Our defensive effort was outstanding, we held them to just 27.4% shooting, forced 29 TO’s and kept them to only five transition points. The biggest difference was the rebounding battle, where South West collected 26 offensive rebounds and created far too many extra scoring opportunities. The opposition had 80 scoring chances to our 57 due to TO’s and O-boards it’s always going to be tough when they have 5 qtrs worth of shots to our 4.
The result hurts because we were still two points ahead with 42 seconds to go and had genuine chances to win. A couple of missed open lay-ups, 3 seconds into coach asking us to hold the ball and multiple rushed decisions in the final moments cost us, but those moments do not erase the quality of the performance. We have improved enormously, and today showed that we can compete with the best teams in the competition. We now need to keep working on finishing defensive possessions and staying composed late in close games, because we are very close.

The whole team deserves credit for outstanding defensive effort. Working together in our press, switching at the right times, we looked like a well oiled machine who had each others backs. Special mention to Annie, who protected the nail brilliantly and sparked our comeback. She made the most of her minutes & has earned more opportunities. Isla Tomanic’s minutes while short also provided a huge energy spark.
Today’s Player of the Game is Harper Dostal, she finished with 12 points and 11 steals, refusing to accept we’d lose. While others doubted our team’s ability, Harper competed every possession and inspired the group. Her toughness and belief almost carried us to a memorable upset.

A great team win this week against the team sitting 3rd on the ladder, moving us to 10-1 for the season!
We came out firing in the first quarter, jumping to an 11-2 lead with outstanding defensive pressure. Every player who stepped on the court brought the same intensity and never let the opposition get comfortable.
The second and third quarters were a struggle offensively, scoring just 2 and 4 points as the opposition adjusted well. But the girls showed great resilience, sticking together and refusing to give in.
Our response in the final quarter was outstanding, scoring 22 points to their 9 to take control of the game and finish with a well deserved win. Really proud of the way the girls bounced back and played for each other when it mattered most!

A well deserved Player of the Game this week goes to both Mary and Maddie! Their defensive intensity was outstanding from start to finish, constantly applying pressure and setting the standard for the team. When we needed a spark in the final quarter, both stepped up in a big way with crucial baskets that helped swing the momentum back in our favour. They played with great composure, made smart decisions under pressure, and led by example when it mattered most. A fantastic game from both girls!

The girls have had an issue as of late with slow starts so we made an emphasis to start well, to which we came out and scored the first 6 points of the game. Our pressure throughout the whole 4 quarters was immense, forcing lots of long passes from the raiders which we intercepted. We also had a focus of driving and finishing through contact which the girls looked more comfortable doing in this game than previous weeks. It was a good consistent 4 quarter effort from the girls and they deserved the win.

Tahlia’s defence is always above and beyond which she displayed through her intercepts, her on ball steals and locking down anyone who came her way but her offence took a step this game. She got more confident in her shot, also did a really good job of bringing the ball up the court and finding the right passes. Our goal was a strong start and for the first quarter we matched their physicality, getting several offensive rebounds and guarding the rim effectively. The second quarter saw Willetton gain a slight advantage as we struggled to finish on a number of occasions. Our defense and rebounding continued to be the strong point, and we were able to get out in transition for some easy buckets. The third quarter was the difference in the game as we succumbed to their defensive pressure, and we turned the ball over too many times for easy baskets. We tried hard to get back into the game but were too far out of it by the fourth quarter. It wasn’t our second half today but to the boys credit, they always play hard until the final buzzer.
Player of the game
Some good performances today despite the heavy loss. However, Freddie stood tall giving his all on defense and consistently being physical. Adding to this, he was great on the offensive end today, finishing in transition and is much improved driving to the basket. He had a solid 14 points to go with a number of rebounds and steals. Freddie, you have shown great improvement over the season and have a much more developed skillset. Well done!

Last game against Mandurah was a 4pt loss, so this win has supported our continued improvement as a team.
We got out to a fast start with a 41-17 half time lead.
Defensively, this was one of our best games yet. The boys kept a lot of pressure on the ball all game and across the full court. This gave us a number of points from steals & turnovers.
We kept up this pressure in the backcourt rotating quickly with the ball movement and taking away the ability for Mandurah to find space or open passing lanes.
Offensively we scored and moved well in transition, pushing the ball and finding rim runners. In the half court we showed some great ball movement and a couple of well executed pick and rolls.
In the second half, we also had moments when we moved away from smart basketball and movement stagnated
Need to explore and understand why we were unable to turn that around, even after a couple of timeouts to discuss that problem.
Player of the Game
This was a real team effort this game, with every player contributing with lockdown team defense and working together to find the open player. All players made the scoreboard.
Player of the Game goes to Jack Tucker who was active defensively and continues to position himself and find gaps to go to work dropping 18 tidy points at a high percentage. This week was a much better version of us against a Warwick team that made us work hard last time around.
The previous matchup was a 5 point grind, but this time we were able to create some breathing room early by defending well, running the floor and making the most of our chances. Our first shot defense was excellent, holding Warwick to just 21% shooting.
Offensively, our ball movement was a real positive. We finished with 19 assists and had some great patches where we played fast in transition, then showed patience once we got into our half-court offense. At times we probably over-shared it, but the intent to find the better shot was exactly what we want.
The game was very physical, but we adjusted better this time, kept attacking and punished them at the free throw line.
Still plenty to clean up with turnovers and defensive rebounding, but this was a clear step forward and a good response after the break.
Player of the Game
Isobel Wood: Bel gets the nod this week in a tough one to pick.
8 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals and 8 deflections, and a big impact on the way we controlled the game. Her ball movement was excellent, she kept the offense organised, found teammates in good spots and helped us stay composed against pressure.
She was active defensively, making things difficult for the opposition all game without getting into foul trouble.
Honourable mentions to Audrey, who top scored with 16 points, Dani with 12 points on 66.7% (6/9) shooting, and Cara with 10 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 deflections.

We knew coming up against the top-of-the-ladder team was always going to be a tough challenge. Before the game, we asked the girls to think about their individual trigger to ensure they were mentally ready from the opening tip, and they responded brilliantly with a strong start.
It was a gallant effort against a very disciplined Mandurah team. Once again, the girls trusted our system and played the team-first basketball that has become our trademark. When we made the switch to man-to-man defence, the transition was seamless, demonstrating how much the group has grown in their understanding of the game and our defensive principles.
Our offence continues to create good scoring opportunities. However, when we forget to value our possessions, our turnover count climbs higher than we would like. Continuing to look after the basketball will be a key focus as we move forward.
One of the biggest positives from the game was our offensive output. Only two teams have scored more than 60 points against Mandurah this season, so to finish with 59 points was an outstanding effort and another sign of how much this group continues to improve each week.

Imogen Chambers. Imogen was switched on before she even stepped onto the court, and it showed in her performance from the moment she got out there. She embraced the challenge of taking on a quality opponent and competed with great intensity throughout the game.
At both ends of the floor, Imogen made life difficult for Mandurah. She used her height effectively, attacked every rebound with determination and never backed down from the physical contest. Her relentless effort, composure and willingness to compete for every ball were outstanding and played a significant role in another strong team performance. A thoroughly deserving Player of the Game.

Whilst this game will be recorded as a loss it again demonstrated the tenacity and strength of our team. In the first quarter Cockburn were fast and physical and fast and scored quickly. They scored 27 points to our 5 which put us on the back foot. They had felt unstoppable but the girls responded in the second. They adjusted to the style of play, got more physical and put more pressure on the ball. They held Cockburn and were able to find more avenues to goal. As a result, we matched them on the scoreboard in the second and the third quarter in an impressive display of courage and commitment to one another. Cockburn outscored us again in the fourth but we matched them in game play. This was a very physical game with very few fouls called and the girls did incredibly well to meet that challenge.
Player of the game
Giselle was courageous and led by example, chasing down every ball, hassling and forcing multiple turnovers. She demonstrated the level of pressure required and the team followed her example.
Hannah was also exceptional and demonstrated that she has been adding a number of elements to her personal game. She rebounded well, gave us options in the paint and intercepted numerous passes. We were really impressed with the way she stood up when it counted.
Our girls were all so courageous in this game and we couldn’t be more proud of them.

After 3 weeks off you could tell this game was going to be very low scoring and lots of back and forth.
We started slow and continued to end up down 10 points regularly throughout the game, this team showed plenty of adversity and character to get back in the game and win.
Effort and energy played a huge part which started from the bench and flowed through our defence super proud of how this team is coming together as the season goes on

This kid is epitome of our core values EFFORT and ENERGY
He’s a character within our team who goes out there every week and gives his all and plays with his heart.

The boys ground out a hard-fought win against Wolves after a challenging first half. We struggled to establish the pressure and control that has become part of our identity, allowing Wolves to score too easily in transition and disrupt our offensive flow.
Despite not playing our best basketball, the group stayed within striking distance and trailed by only four points at half-time. The response after the break was outstanding. We tightened up defensively, significantly reduced their transition scoring and showed greater patience on offence, creating better scoring opportunities through ball movement and improved shot selection.
A key factor in the win was our improved defensive rebounding, which helped us finish possessions and limit second-chance opportunities. Amani played a major role in this area, providing a strong presence around the basket and anchoring our defence throughout the game.
While there are still areas to improve, particularly around sustaining pressure, transition accountability and offensive execution, the group showed resilience and maturity to adjust, respond and find a way to win.
Player of the game
Returning for only his third game back, Amani delivered a huge performance on the defensive end. He finished with 10 rebounds (8 defensive) and 6 blocks, providing the interior presence we needed throughout the game.
Beyond the statistics, Amani’s impact was felt in his ability to finish possessions, protect the rim and give the group confidence defensively. His fitness continues to improve each week and he was able to provide significant minutes when we needed them most. In a game where we had to grind out a result, Amani’s defensive effort and physical presence were instrumental in keeping us in the game in the first half and helping us secure the win.

Considering we were down a few players I thought we started the game with some good defensive intensity which led to some easy points in transition. This kept us within striking distance for much of the game, though a slow start in the 3rd quarter combined with the fact that Hills were well coached and very motivated to win meant we couldn’t keep it close enough going into the late stages of the game. Hills’ defensive pressure ultimately proved too much on the day.
Player of the game
Despite being away from the team for a couple of weeks Tom Hanekamp came into the game motivated and ready to play which was very pleasing to see. His level-headedness and desire to keep on competing when the going gets tough is always appreciated by the team. Levi Hewett was a stand-out as well, especially in the first half, showing that he can quickly turn defence into offence. Levi top scored with 23, many of them coming from steals and deflections.

Love the energy from the bench, that was the biggest take away from this game. A topic that was put forward to the players during the break is the fact that we want to have all players hitting their peak and firing nicely and it’s my job as a coach to make sure that none of the boys lay dormant. Which meant the understanding of sacrificing time for some players for their brothers to also thrive and get better.
To see the boys all enjoying themselves laughing and having fun in a game that really started off extremely slow (to our standards) before pulling away for a comfortable win, that even when the going was tough early we never panicked and actually it just felt like we knew at some stage we would get it going.
This also brings us to the team 2 co-captains for the remainder of the season being Deacon and Omid. Both have different leadership qualities as well as what they bring to the floor. It is by no mean that others couldn’t be, but for what I think it’s going to take us to the end these 2 have a very solid defensive and rebounding mindset to get the boys going. We can score from all avenues, it’ll be the defense that gets us as far as we go.
Player of the Game
Fei had his BEST game and it was really his first real opportunity to be given that chance. I hadn’t given him much minutes, maybe that affected his confidence. But coming out of the break there needs to be some changes and it first game with giving Fei his time on floor as well as empowering him to take the ball and shoot the ball, and who cares if you make mistakes.
