Vattalanie D’Sylva (U16 Girls Black) – This week’s Player of the Game goes to Vattalanie D’Sylva. Without a doubt, this was Vatsy’s best game of the season, and many remarked that it was the best performance they’ve ever seen from her. She stepped into the starting lineup this week, providing the ball pressure typically offered by our starting point guard, and she did not disappoint. Vatsy worked incredibly hard, guarding on-ball effectively, but what was most impressive was her efficient offensive game. She scored 9 points at 60% shooting from the field, along with 2 rebounds and 2 steals. The standout stat was her +19 in the +\-. Well done, Vattalanie Zita, I am truly proud of your all-around effort for the team this week!
Hunter Dowd (U14 Boys Orange) – This week’s player of the round is Hunter. He had an all-round strong game and was instrumental in our comeback, hitting a crucial 3, passing well in transition and driving strong for scores as well as playing with a high level of intensity on defense. It was great to see him play smart as well, holding the ball up when needed and making some great extra passes. Well done, Hunter!

This was a well-earned win for us. This week, we only had seven suited up, so we started with a disadvantage compared to a full slammers team. It was tough for the girls, being so young and having to really push outside of their usual limits, but this did not stop them. The girls worked really hard, specifically in the first and last quarters. As a team, we usually are very strong defensively, being able to apply pressure and force the other team to turn over the ball, but this week our strength was our offense and team basketball. Team basketball is something I repeat week in and week out, and this week it was beautiful. We shared the ball well, making all the right passes, and we were able to score a lot of points from that movement. Our shot choices are looking better. We scored 43 points, which is our highest so far!! Little achievements each week add up to major growth. I am really proud of our efforts this week. You never fail to make me proud as a coach, keep working hard!!
Player of the game
This week I had two, and I simply could not pick between them. Millie and Sarah! Millie also won player of the game last week. She is improving rapidly each week, taking on feedback each week, and continuously working to level up her game. Especially on making sure there’s a soft touch with the layups, this week she had 9 points! Good Job, Millie. Keep it up! This week, we saw Sarah gain her confidence back to dribble again. Each week, Sarah cleans most of our rebounds up but passes the ball off instantly. This week, she put the ball on the floor and went to the ring. She even scored 8 points! Keep shining, Sarah!! You are incredible! Good job to Adley for 8 points and Chloe for 12!!

We made a very slow start to this game. Lakeside are a very aggressive defensive team, which made it very hard to get open looks as our half court passing game is still in progress (although much improved). Down 11 at halftime, we came out strong with the first couple of baskets, but Lakeside seemed to have an answer. Then the defensive intensity lifted and the offense started to flow. We finished the third quarter scoring nine straight points, capped off by a Kirath Dhanjal three pointer at the buzzer to give us our first lead of the game, and all the momentum. The last quarter was about controlling the ball and protecting our lead. The lead was pushed to six before Lakeside scored the last two baskets to settle on the final score. Overall his was a fantastic team effort with lots of contributors. It’s amazing to watch the boys improve game by game.
Player of the game
It was difficult again to choose one player as player of the game as the boys are playing well as a team. This week the coaches decided to give the player of the game award to Kirath Dhanjal for his usual outstanding defensive work as well as his ever improving shooting and ball handling. Well done Kirath.

We knew this game was going to be a physical one, going against a tough Willetton team with a size advantage. Our focus was to keep the Tigers out of the paint with strong on-ball and focused, early help defense the two most important aspects of this. The boys executed well in this area, holding the Tigers key players in check, giving up just 42 points for the game. In the first half, a slower pace allowed Willetton to set up their half-court defensive structure, forcing our offence away from the basket. This played into our opponent’s hands and kept them within 3 points at the main break. At half time, the coaches challenged the boys to pick up the pace which they did really well. Despite the Tigers coming out with an aggressive press, we moved the ball up the court confidently with some beautiful passages of passing fueling our transition game. When the boys look for each other, they look really polished, and their development week on week continues to impress.
Most impressive this week was that we executed the game plan for four quarters, extending the lead at each break. That is now six wins in a row, and we can’t wait for the challenge of taking on the ladder-leading Lightning after the school holiday break. Bring it on!
Player of the game
This week’s player of the game was Lennox Greene. Lennox demonstrated how you can impact winning without scoring. His defensive intent was clear from the jump, he was instrumental in help defense and rebounded well as always. He even held his own playing as a 3-man in our defensive scheme, and this flexibility is something Lennox can really build on in the second half of the season. Go Lenny!
There were also great performances from Zarene Samson, Carter Murdoch and Harry Allen. Z’s development in basketball IQ has been phenomenal, Carter continues to get stronger and more confident each week and Harry continues to round out his skill set as a distributor and plus defender. Keep in up boys!

A decent effort, we started off slow and struggled to sink our shots thankfully Hunter nailing the first layup from tip off, we soon caught up and only trailed by 4 with Max with his defensive pressure and also increasing hunger for the ball is coming along nicely, also a great amount of support and energy coming from the bench, something we’d love to see more of going forward from everyone. Going into the second we had our work cut out for us and unfortunately familiar mistakes of our own rushed inbounds and rushed passes saw us pay dearly, that aside our plays were there we just couldn’t get the finishes though with Jaxon (also under the weather) always delivering especially with rebounds and assists landed some need cover on the score board at the end. In the 3rd and 4th the Slammers changed their defense to half court which really hindered our ability to attack the basket, we adjusted but the aggression wasn’t there but it was good to see the efforts made especially by Isaac with strong steals. Though a long season so far the boys have come a long way and now time for a due break and time to reflect and work on improvements at home, upon return I look forward to a home game with high positive energy and nothing less!!

This was one of our most complete performances of the season. We played with pace, moved the ball with purpose, and consistently created high value shots. But the real highlight was our defense.
We brought full court pressure from the outset, disrupted passing lanes, and recovered well in transition to keep pressure on the ball. In the half court, we rotated with urgency, contested everything, and took away Mandurah’s early options. That connected effort forced multiple late clock situations and held them to just 19% shooting across the game. Start to finish, we were locked in.
Team rebounding was another highlight. We attacked the glass with intent, and our effort across the group kept us in control. A strong step forward in how we want to play.

Each week highlighting just one of our amazing athletes is a challenge, and this week was no different. That said, this week we just couldn’t go past Cara Woodgate. After a few tough weeks adjusting to extra defensive attention, she found her rhythm and refused to be pushed around. She was dominant on both ends, finishing with 18 points at 50% EFG, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a block. Cara played with confidence and intent, making quality decisions. She’s stepping into her potential, and this performance showed just how impactful she can be.

In our final game before the break, the girls faced the second-placed Flames and came out strong, applying their usual defensive pressure and moving the ball well to create good looks. At quarter time, we trailed by just 4 (10–14). The second quarter was the turning point. The Flames lifted their intensity, and despite our girls still getting open shots, nothing was dropping. Missed chances led to transition baskets for the Flames, and the gap grew to 16 at halftime (15–31). After the break, our girls dug in and matched the Flames’ intensity. The third (9–12) and fourth (8–12) quarters were tightly contested, showing the team’s resilience and refusal to give up. While outsized and out-muscled at times, the girls showed heart and competed hard. There’s room to improve—especially in following instructions and staying sharp in transition—but the effort was there. We weren’t near our best and still stayed competitive. A solid foundation to build on for the second half of the season.

Eliza “Bob” Eaton claims this week’s Player of the Game with a top-scoring performance that highlighted her growing confidence and offensive skill. Her aggressive drives and ability to create scoring chances showed exactly what she’s capable of. The next step is bringing that same intensity to the defensive end.

All credit goes to our girls this week, we knew going into this game undermanned it was going to be a fight and boy did they do that. Right from the start the girls came out strong playing great defence and rebounding hard. Missing one of our talls was always going to be hard but Cass and Sofia did a great job in stepping up to fill that role. The girls are continuing to find great space even when it goes unrewarded to help out their teammates. Accuracy is still proving a challenge but the girls are working hard to make the right choices and shot selection. Overall we were so incredibly proud of the girls today and even though we didn’t get the win it felt like a win in itself the way they played and handled themselves.

It’s hard to pick one this week so we decided all the girls get the credit. Georgia for her hard work protecting the paint and hustle in offence . Cass and Sofia for stepping up to help fill the tall roll and rebounding strong. Jaz and Annie for their work bringing the ball up, they are so composed and did great making smart choices to beat the press and attack the basket when need and also seeing Annie hit her first in game 3! Lastly Ellah and Sienna, these two always bring high intensity clean defence forcing the opposition to move the ball on or turn it over. They are continually make great space on the court playing the team game and both being found in space this week to score!

A very slow start to the game allowed our opponents to open a lead going into the end of the first quarter. The boys went up a gear in the second quarter, winning it 19-4 to close the gap to 3 points by half time. The boys played the brand of defense we know we can produce, forcing multiple turnovers for easy baskets and hitting some crucial outside shots. The third quarter was a back-and-forth affair with Slammers holding a narrow 4-point lead heading into the 4th quarter. The fourth quarter was when our opponents took control again and despite some fight, could not close the gap. I am proud of the fightback which came from effort on the defensive end and an improved effort on the boards that helped kick start our transition game. Nathanael was a menace on the rebounds and Alex really attacked the paint with purpose. Zane had a great game top scoring with 12 points. Consistency is an issue with the group as we strive to play all 4 quarters at the same intensity level. With a young group of boys that are all bottom agers, the best is yet to come!

A very hard fought win against a tough East Perth this week. The first half was very low scoring, both teams only getting into low 20’s.
We stayed patient on defence in our half court, but shots just didn’t want to drop. Defence was going to be the deciding factor of this game, and our bench group showed up and without a doubt were the determining factors in this game. We started the second half a little better, shots falling and the defence staying patient through the eagles sets, but our bench came on and blew them out in both our press and half court. We held them to 0 points, scoring 22 unanswered to close the game. Relentless pressure in our press leading to turnover after turnover, and when they did get in the half court, we stayed composed and played very disciplined defence.

Player of the round this week is Lucas Bickmore. Not our highest scorer but sets a defensive tone that was contagious throughout the group. Coming off the bench, Lucas picks up the ball from the inbound and is the most important player in our press to create turnovers, and this week he did exactly that. He played with 100% for the entire game and made great decisions on offence, getting his teammates looks whilst having the ability to go get himself a bucket at any point. Absolute menace for other teams offences, well deserved. Special mention to Issac with 18 points

This week, our girls showcased an exceptional performance right from the start. With a positive mindset and aggressive play, they surprised Hills with an effective press, gaining control early in the game. Despite missing two key players, including our starting point guard and sixth man, the team displayed remarkable effort and determination. Carmen returned to her best form, scoring 17 points, grabbing 14 rebounds, and delivering five smart assists while setting up Dunker perfectly. Holly had an incredible game, finishing with 28 points, 24 of which came in a fantastic first half. Congratulations to Ilse on your WABL debut! Our team did an excellent job of taking care of the ball, committing just 25 turnovers while forcing the opponents into 34. It was impressive to see our undersized team compete closely on the boards, losing the rebound count 65-63 against a much taller opponent.

Shorthanded, we faced a feisty Redbacks outfit looking to extend their 3-game win streak. We both started strong in the opening quarter, scoring with fluidity and efficiency. At the end of the first break, we were tied 22 a piece. It felt like we outplayed them, but somehow, Perth found a way of matching us. The second period is where we separated. Our Suns made a concerted effort to limit interior shots, pressure the ball and rebound. By half time we led by 11. The girls played great as a team, working together for scoring opportunities whilst never letting up the defensive pressure. This win extended our streak to 9. Our continued success is a product of the girls buying into giving 100% effort whilst executing as a team.

Amber Brickwood. Amber was a problem! Her relentless attack of the paint to carve our great scoring opportunities spearheaded our offensive. Pulling in rebound after rebound she helped us win the possession battle. Her aggression and control were on full display and awesome to witness. Amazing work, Amber!

There were lots of great contributions from many players making it difficult to choose the player of the week. Angelena was the top scorer with 14 points and dominated the scoring early in the game. Kirsten made 3×3 pointers and was lights out from the arc. Lucy and lily played awesome getting many rebounds and stopping many opposition runs with blocks while also scoring 6 and 7 points. The winner this week was Daphne who was the second top scorer with 12 points and was the on court leader. Well done Daphne.

Sometimes, it’s not about how it looks; it’s about getting the job done. This week’s win wasn’t our best performance by any stretch, but we’ll take the result. The opening quarter and most of the first half lacked rhythm, and both sides struggled to find any real momentum. At halftime, we held a slim 4-point lead, knowing we still had plenty of work to do. The third quarter brought a spark as we began to take control of the game, although lapses in our transition defense and a few too many second-chance points kept things tighter than we would’ve liked. What stood out, though, was the continued growth of our group. Kieran Dunn showed great confidence, stepping up to hit 5 of 9 from deep; a clear sign of trust in his shot. Llafton Muller was relentless on defense, finishing with 7 steals and 5 assists. Off the bench, Raymond Tafira made a strong impact with his first double-double of the season (10 points, 10 rebounds). Tadiwa Kukodzi (20 pts) and Ryker Phillips (16 pts) kept the scoreboard ticking, while Amani Kongawoin showed his range and rebounding grit, grabbing 11 boards and knocking down a confident three. We’ll regroup after the break and get ready to host Coburg.

Kieran Dunn delivered a standout performance this week, making an impact on both ends of the floor. His defensive effort and willingness to compete in recent times seemed to have unlocked his potential, while his offensive game showed real maturity and confidence. Kieran let the ball fly with purpose, hitting 5 of 9 from beyond the arc and giving us crucial momentum when we needed it most. What’s most impressive is the growing composure and competitiveness in his game. He’s learning when to step up, when to stay patient. Cal Kwe – All players stepped up admirably in the absence of several players, sharing the scoring load around evenly. However, it was the defensive pressure of Cal who turned the game in our favour. Whether it was pressuring the ball or getting his hands in passing lanes, Cal was everywhere on the defensive end.

With only 8 players available, we got off to a slow start but were able to claw back late in the first quarter to go ahead by 3. From there we were able to regroup and start playing our game of basketball to extend the lead. The second and third quarters were clearly our best, where we extended our lead and took the game away from them. 21-10 & 24-11. We did start to get tired in the fourth quarter, but we were still able to win that quarter to close out the game.
An even game across our players with 5 reaching double figures in scoring. An interesting stat for the season so far, is when we score 20+ points for the quarter (19 times this season) we have only lost 1 quarter.
Player of the game
Edzon Paler gets the player of the round this week. With Tommy out injured I had to rely on Edzon for a bigger role and he delivered. He top scored with 23 points which included 2 three’s. His defensive effort was also outstanding. Ben dominated the offensive boards and scored 15, while Lukah scored 14 and Marcus had 12.

Sunday was a very exciting game against a strong, tall Redbacks outfit, who presented a handful of problems for us on paper and on the court. We entered the contest with specific plans, as we did the week before, and ultimately proved we were more than a handful ourselves. The Redbacks identified our traps and zones better than some other opposition, which was a real positive for us, because it allowed us to test how polished we really are! It’s one thing to identify defensive structures, it’s another to counter well enough, for long enough. With that in mind we exposed ourselves a little on the perimeter (offensively) and allowed the Redbacks some three point shooting, but we sustained our rotations, dig downs and corner traps for longer than the Redbacks could handle. The arm wrestle games suit Suns Blue and Coach James and I will back our players to be courageous and play our way when the pressure is on. A great win for the boys as we move into the break. The score was exactly what it should have been, a fair and deserved win against good opposition. I credit each and every player on Sunday. Some experienced court-time sacrifices in order to win, some were injured and some were sick, but we stuck together – the only thing that really matters.
Player of the game
Player of the game is another (almost) impossible choice this week. Some players scored well, some managed pressure well, some sacrificed minutes & some provided motivation. Coach James & I focus on behaviors that impact on winning. Although statistically this player may not be the highest contributor, his impact on Sunday mattered. Well done therefore to big Will, who was our hype-guy, our energy guy, our Team-first guy & our most important player on Sunday. Will trained the house down on Wednesday & when this young man is switched on – look out. Coach James & I were so pleased for Will, who put the Team on his back and dragged them to the finish line with his big motor! Great game Will.

The girls showed grit and determination in today’s clash against the Joondalup Wolves. Despite tough competition, the team fought hard from start to finish. Special should out to Paige who answered the call on short notice and delivered a standout performance with 24 points – a massive contribution that kept the Suns in the game.

Rachel stood out not just for her 13 points, but the way she leads the team on court. Her calm presence under pressure helped keep the team settled during key and very intense moments. Rachels leadership by example and steady influence made a real difference today.

With two players out due to injury this was a bit of a danger game for us. Lakeside are a strong, fast running team that can pile on points quickly if you give them any space. Our boys got out to a really strong first quarter punishing Lakeside on turnover and running hard on boards to take a commanding lead into the break. Boys executed with great discipline for most of the game but a few defensive lapses in the last quarter let Lakeside back into the game. Giving up 30 points in uncontested three’s is always going to make things tough. Some great teamplay in the final minutes let us hold on for the win
Player of the game
There could easily be 3 or 4 player of the games this week. With such a great spread of scorers and effort every week this award often goes down to the wire. Lucas A had a great offensive game taking the ball strongly to the rim for his 15, Ashton pulled down 13 board including 8 in the 1st, Sam almost another double double and Zach with his consistent scoring. But player of the week this week is Lionel. Lionel had a tough first quarter struggling to find his groove but when we needed him deep in the fourth he came on and stopped a 10-0 run with 5 quick points, 3 steals, 2 assists and some awesome defensive work. Massive impact in four quick minutes!
