Players of the Round:
Sophie Perazzo (U14 Girls 1) – On a tough day, Soph continued to compete from start to finish and led by example. She finished with 15 points and 8 rebounds, attacked the basket with confidence, knocked down two three’s and constantly put pressure on the defence. Most pleasing was her willingness to keep playing hard regardless of the scoreboard, crashing the glass and never giving up. You can never question Sophie’s competitiveness, it’s such a wonderful attribute to have. Well done, Soph!!!
Ryker Mills (U18 Boys Team 3) – Ryker delivered another strong performance, finishing with 23 points and 9 rebounds while impacting both ends of the floor. His ability to get downhill and score efficiently gave us a consistent offensive presence, while his defensive effort (4 steals) helped create momentum throughout the game.
Ryker continues to set a high standard with his consistency and competitiveness each week, providing a strong platform for the group to build from. His all-round impact was again a major positive in a tightly contested game.

What an exciting game, going down to the wire. Heading into the game we were missing two of our starters, so we knew it would be tough. This presented an opportunity for the whole group to rally, and they did. I asked for intensity from the first second, and they brought it in spades. They were mostly outsized but you wouldnt have noticed. We attacked and defended hard, putting learnt skills on display, I couldnt be prouder. It was a tussle all game. We had our opportunities in the dying seconds but couldnt quite get it done. But, we walk away all the better for the experience. Great effort girls!
Player of the Game
Our player of the round this week goes to Alex Robinson. Alex really stepped up this week, I could see the emense effort in defending, while trying to maintain the correct positioning across the court. She really gave it her all, doing what she could to help get the team over the line. Her positive attitude and focus was also a standout for me. Well done Alex, your hard work is not going unnoticed!

Coaches notes
This week we took on Hills Raiders again, the same team we faced in Round 1. Back then, the final score was 9–44, but this time we finished much closer at 22–35.
A great team scoring effort saw Kayla and Ella lead the way with 6 points each, Indi adding 4, Peyton contributing 2, and congratulations to Ivy and Laura, who both scored 2 points to register their first WABL goals.
While we didn’t come away with the win, the improvement in both our performance and the scoreboard reflects just how much we’ve grown as a team throughout the season. It’s fantastic to see our hard work paying off, and we’ll keep building evey week
Player of the game
Players of the Game
Indi – Indi has the tough job of inbounding the ball, which comes with a lot of pressure. She made some great decisions under pressure and did an excellent job rebounding under the basket against much taller girls. Her effort and composure were outstanding.
Ivy – Ivy has been working really hard at training, and it’s showing in her games. She continues to improve every week. This week I asked the girls to focus on boxing out, and Ivy was the only one who consistently did it. It’s great to see her hard work paying off.
Well done, Indi and Ivy! Keep up the fantastic effort.

Impressed with how the boys handled themselves. After the first quarter we were down by 7 points and it felt like a lot of the calls weren’t going our way, the boys stayed calm despite that and just kept playing their own game.
We took a little time to warm up and find our flow, we are missing two of our players at the moment and that has changed the dynamic, but once we found our flow in the game the boys stormed home for a really great win. I’m really proud of how the boys took everything and their stride and adjusted themselves where needed in the game.
Beau and Cruz joined us this week, both played a really great game, Beau scored his first Wabl goal and had adjusted well to the team.
Every single player brought something to this game and every player also scored a goal, they honestly all had such a cracking game and I’m very proud of the boys.
Player of the game
Player of the game this week goes to JT, he had a lot of pressure to be on the ball for 3 full quarters of the game and he chased down the ball handler every time and was so good at pressuring the other team in defence, he put in a lot of hard work this game and got us a lot of turnovers.
Even with all that hard running and pressure to be the person on the ball he did it with a smile and he should be super proud of how he played.

Won against Rockingham Flames (47 – 30)
Coaches notes
The boys fought hard in a fast-paced and exciting game, showing determination from start to finish. The first quarter didn’t quite come together offensively, with shots not dropping despite creating good opportunities. Defensively, however, the team stayed composed and controlled, allowing us to remain in front. Ryan injected great energy, positivity, and drive into the team, helping everyone lift their intensity and refocus. From that point on, the boys played with greater confidence and purpose. The opposition applied constant pressure with double teams, but the boys responded well by attacking the gaps and driving strongly through the defence. As a team, we will continue working on adjusting our rhythm to suit different offensive and defensive situations. Mason’s effort at training was rewarded as he played with greater aggression and attacked the ball with confidence. Giaan listened carefully to instructions and executed them well during the game. Ethan contributed with strong rebounding, controlled the ball well in offence, and attacked the ball with determination on defence. The boys maintained their intensity throughout the entire game and should be proud of their teamwork and continued improvement.
Player of the game
Player of the Week goes to Ryan Chan for an outstanding all-round performance. Ryan was consistently strong at both ends of the court, attacking the basket with confidence and driving hard offensively while applying relentless pressure on defence. He showed excellent teamwork with smart passing and unselfish play. What stood out most was his determination—despite being knocked over multiple times, Ryan got straight back up every time, never losing his focus, effort, or desire for the ball. He played with incredible heart and determination from start to finish and truly earned this week’s award.

Loss against Rockingham Flames (35 – 91)
Coaches notes
Another tough game for our girls this week against a quality Rockingham side. While the scoreboard wasn’t what we were after, there were still some encouraging signs still. The biggest story was once again possessions. We finished with 49 shots to their 76, a massive difference created largely by our 45 turnovers and allowing 24 offensive rebounds. That’s simply too many extra opportunities to give any opposition and continues to be our biggest area for improvement.
Despite that, I was pleased with the girls’ willingness to keep competing. We forced 14 steals, 19 deflections and 5 blocks, showing that our defensive effort and activity are becoming more consistent each week. We also shot the three with more confidence, knocking down four triples, and finished better when we got to the rim.
Our biggest focus now is learning to value every possession. We defend well enough at times, but too often we earn the stop only to hand the ball straight back. Once we can finish full possessions by securing the rebound, looking after the basketball and getting into our offence, we will improve even more. Every week this group continues to learn. The scoreboard wasn’t flattering, but there are still plenty of positives.

This week’s Player of the Game is Sophie Perazzo. On a tough day, Soph continued to compete from start to finish and led by example. Coaches Notes
Our first loss of the season definitely stings, but sometimes a loss is exactly what a team needs. It gives us the opportunity to reflect, learn, and identify the areas we need to improve as we head into the last half of the season. If there was ever a time to have a wake up call, we’re glad it came before finals.
With only six of our U14 girls available, we also want to give a huge shoutout to Izzy Salmon for stepping up from the U12s. Playing a grade up is no easy task, especially in a much faster and more physical game, but Izzy held her own from start to finish. You should be incredibly proud of yourself, you played with confidence and courage like the little champ you are.
We’ll dust ourselves off, rebuild, and shift our focus to next week’s game. We’re short on numbers again, but this group has shown all season that they never back down from a challenge. Time to get back to work.

Coaches notes
Our first half was really good, tied up at 15-15 but the 3rd quarter let us down and we couldn’t claw it back. The girls in the first half played well, high pressure defence, a lot of rebounding presence and found open options on offence. Second half effort didn’t drop but we just turned the ball over too frequently. The girls didn’t drop their heads and continued working hard in the 4th but it wasn’t enough to bring the score back
Player of the game
Emily Higham. Emily has consistently improved every single week and it really showed in this game. She made really good efforts on defence with cutting off the ball handlers and chasing down the opposition. She brought the ball up the court with the most confidence I’ve seen in her, protecting it and then finding her teammates. Emily should be proud of her improvements this season.

Building on from last week, our team work for the majority of the game was at a high level – making the right passes, taking the right shots and our positioning on defence was a lot better this week.
With a couple of key players out we had all our development players suit up this week – big shout out to Alex Gerritsen, Sven Neahaus and Jobe Walker for always staying ready to be called up. All three have made massive improvement throughout the season and have been great teammates as well.
Player of the Game
This weeks POTG goes to Felix Prokscha, after getting thrown into the starting 5 due to a late injury, he took the game on and played his best game all season. He handled the ball with a lot more poise this week, passing was under control and put his body on the line crashing the boards. Really happy to see his work paying off after having a couple rough weeks but he never puts his head down. Never complains about court time and always puts 100% at training – can’t ask for anything more as a coach.

Loss against Joondalup Wolves (56 – 70)
Coaches notes
After a disappointing game last week, we came ready to play against the top of the ladder team that has lost only one game all season by 1 point. We came out aggressive, attacking the basket and forcing some turnovers for transition baskets which lead to a 3-point lead at the first break. The second quarter was much the same, with all players contributing at both ends to finish three points behind at the half from a tough buzzer beating 3-pointer. The second half saw Joondalup gain an advantage from offensive boards and take a lead. We continued to fight back and matched them for the remainder of the game giving them a scare. Ashton and Kirath were consistent again and Preston has some fantastic moments at the defensive end including a massive rejection in the fourth quarter.
The boys probably played their best game of the season battling their size on the boards and with some of the best ball movement we’ve done this season. Defensively, we contained them much better than our last meeting. This is all a good sign moving forward for the rest of the season as each player did something great in their minutes on the floor resulting in a balanced scoresheet with all players getting a bucket.
Player of the game
Very difficult decision this week for player of the round as all contributed. Ollie was in attack mode on offensive and had some huge baskets for us at crucial moments. Freddie had some amazing stats, having his best scoring game with 12 points and 4 offensive rebounds. However, I have given the award to Fletcher for this week. His work on the boards (6 rebounds and countless disruptive tap outs), on defense (2 blocks) against a big, relentless team was crucial in keeping us in the game. He has one of his best offensive games (7 points) as well and could have had many more points with the opportunities he had. Well done Fletch!

Loss against East Perth Eagles (54 – 60)
Coaches Notes
This week our message to the boys was that we wanted to start over as if it was a new season and show the division what we were really capable of. They went out and showed exactly that this weekend, giving a top 4 team a real run for their money.
Our first quarter was solid, back and forth basketball with both teams playing really well, and in the second quarter we backed it up going into the halftime break only down 1. East Perth made it very tough, going on an early run spreading the margin to 12 during the 3rd. The boys showed a lot of grit and determination, bringing it back to within 2 with under a minute to play. Unfortunately, the better team won this weekend as we weren’t able to execute to close the game.
We were extremely impressed with the efforts from the boys this game, they played as a team and went out there hungry for the win. Both sides of the ball looked the best they have all season, leading to a well rounded game.
Shout out to our Cap Aiden for his leadership and aggressive mindset, as well as Will and Jaxon for their ever consistent performances.
Player of the Game
Each of the boys played a tremendous game this weekend, making it extremely tough to pick out a singular player of the round. However, after providing a very well rounded effort on both ends of the floor (probably his best game this season), our player of the round goes to Stellan Edowai. Stellan put up 12 very tough points, he was aggressive attacking the basket and getting to the line when we needed him most. His efforts on defence really lead the way, racking up steals leading to easy opportunities for the team in transition, as well as sprinting the floor without the ball to create opportunities for himself. His ball handling was also phenomenal. Well done Stel!

Coaches notes
A long drive to Rockingham, and a longer drive home with a 2 point loss. Another tight game and an arm wrestle to the finish. Neither team could build a lead. We can beat any team in our division and at the same time lose within a few seconds. Again Rockingham are a team which takes 100% engagement to keep under control.
We are playing really good team basketball this last month, the boys play well together, there is great positive energy and they run both our offensive and defensive structures as a group and insync with each other. Enjoyable games to be involved. Leaves us just needing to make small tweaks to how we play and manage the flow of the game.
Just a single play in our favour would have won us this game and is a great reminder to the boys to value every possession and treat every stop like a game winner, as it could just be the difference. The boys can’t wait to get back into it at training and on to the next game.
Player of the Game
Every player on the team made a positive contribution this week and Emmanuel & Arona continue to be the backbone of our team. This week our Player of the Game is Cooper Pearson! Cooper has fought back from being out with injuries and then finding his feet in his first season in WABL. Won against Perry Lakes Hawks (56 – 54)
Coaches notes
A great bounce back from last week for our group, coming away with a close win over a disciplined Perry Lakes team. This week the focus was on ownership, standards and habits, and while our game was not perfect, our intent was clear. We took much better care of the ball, cut our turnover count to a season low, won the possession battle and gave ourselves a real chance to win.
Perry Lakes started well and led by 7 after the 1st quarter, which looked like it could become a repeat of last week, but the group responded strongly with a 17 – 5 second quarter to take the lead heading into the main break. From there it was a tough, physical contest, with both teams having chances to take control. The game was tied late, and there were plenty of moments where it could have gone either way. To our group’s credit, we stayed composed enough to make key plays, secure important rebounds, get the stops we needed and hold on under pressure. A tough win, and a positive step forward.
Player of the Game
Isobel Wood – This was Bel’s most complete performance to date, executing our game plan at key moments to help keep us in the contest. She finished with with a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) and added 4 assists and 2 steals. Her biggest impact was the calm, control and leadership she brought when the game was tight. Bel made big plays, hit important shots, helped settle us when the game got messy and competed hard on the glass.
Honourable mention to Vicky who was challenged to own her role this week. She finished with a double-double of her own (17 points, 15 rebounds). Another strong performance, and another step towards the dominant force we know she can become.

Coaches notes
In a messy tussle, we had to scrap and problem solve to find ways to score in a clogged keyway. We had moments of success inside. Individuals worked tirelessly to find crafty finishes and kick-out passes to advantage threes. Though we got some great looks late, the shots weren’t falling as we’d hope.
It was yet another great test of our resilience and ability to pull together as a team. We regroup at training this week to problem-solve for our next battle against an impressive Lakeside squad.
Player of the Game
Daphne Mullings. Daphne was outstanding in her commitment to applying constant defensive pressure and containing the ball. Her relentless rebounding efforts and boxing out served as an example of what is required to win the possession battle. Daphne is a true team player who is willing to do what we need to be competitive week to week. We’re proud of Daphne’s work ethic and development this season. Great work, Daphne.

Won against Hills Raiders (66 – 45)
Coaches notes
This week we came away with a good win against the Raiders, although we were a little slow out of the blocks. It took us some time to settle into the game and play the style of basketball we know we are capable of. The second quarter was where we really played Suns basketball. We trusted our system, moved the ball well and played with the pace, space and defensive intensity that we have been working so hard to develop throughout the season.
Our defensive execution was outstanding at times, with the girls applying great pressure and forcing the opposition into difficult decisions. When we defend with that level of discipline and intensity, we give ourselves every opportunity to be successful. As we head into the back half of the season, our challenge is to string together four complete quarters of basketball. We have shown what we are capable of in patches, and the next step in our development is to deliver that same level of effort, focus and execution for the entire game. If we can do that, we will continue to put ourselves in a strong position each week.
Player of the Game
Sophie Calvert. Sophie gave us a fantastic start to the game, scoring our first four points and giving herself great confidence from the opening minutes. Her rebounding, particularly securing the ball in front of her opponent, was a real highlight and helped us maintain valuable possessions. Sophie also applied excellent defensive pressure throughout the game, and her ability to generate steals created scoring opportunities and disrupted the Raiders’ offence. It was a well-rounded performance that showcased her growing confidence and the positive impact she continues to have at both ends of the floor.

Coaches Notes
It was a tough game, and we knew going in that it would be a challenge with four players unavailable. Our focus was simple: play our game, back ourselves, support one another, and most importantly, enjoy the experience.
Despite the adversity, the girls never gave up. They encouraged each other from start to finish, showed incredible resilience, and competed with determination. Several players stepped into multiple positions throughout the game, embracing the challenge and giving everything they had for the team. I couldn’t be prouder of this group’s effort, resilience, and willingness to do whatever was needed. The scoreboard didn’t define today’s performance—the character, teamwork, and fight they showed did.
Player of the game
This week we couldn’t choose just one player—everyone contributed equally throughout the game.
Cassidy: Defended the paint, rebounded strongly, great offensive positioning.
Eliza: Mid-court pressure, strong rebounding, excellent positioning.
Ellah: High intensity, mid-court pressure, attacked the middle.
Gisele: Pressure, tenacity, composure, brave drives to the basket.
Jen: Protected the paint, altered shots, defended strongly.
Kat: Strong defence, attacked the basket, moved the ball well, great court vision.
Ruby: Intensity both ends, smart shot selection, ball pressure.
Sienna: Fitted in seamlessly, relentless defence, attacked the basket confidently.

Coaches Notes
Another tough battle where we struggled to score consistently, but there were still plenty of positive signs to take away from the game. We did a great job pushing the ball in transition, creating early offence and putting pressure on the defence. At times, our defensive effort was good. Offensively, we moved the ball well and did a good job creating open looks for one another through unselfish play. We will continue to get more consistent. There are a lot of positives to build on heading into next week.
Player of the Games
Will is our Player of the Round for this week due to his defensive impact. He was exceptional with his rotations, consistently getting to the right spots to help and taking multiple chest blows to stop straight-line drives. He also did a great job on the boards, securing rebounds and giving our team extra possessions. Offensively, Will showed great awareness by finding open spaces, moving well without the basketball, and consistently putting himself in positions to score. On top of that, he brought elite energy from the bench, constantly encouraging his teammates and helping maintain a high level of intensity throughout the game.

Won against Cockburn Cougars (66 – 58)
Coaches Notes
Cockburn jumped us early and got out to a lead of 15-7, but we were able to compose ourselves and get the game on our terms to close out the quarter 17-17. The second quarter was starting to feel very similar with Cockburn getting the first 6 points, but we were once again able to steady and kept them to just 3 more points for the quarter while we poured in 21 of our own. From there we were able to maintain the lead even though we lost the 3rd and 4th quarter by 2 points.
Kyan lead the way with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 6 steals. Damon had 14 points and 8 rebounds including a 3 which seemed to bounce 15 times before finally going through the hoop. Mathew chipped in with 8, Alijah had 7 while Chad and Austin had 6 each.

Kyan gets the nomination this week. The game was extremely physical and Kyan was able to step up and meet that level of intensity to lead all scorers with 16 while also impacting the boards.

Player of the Game
Ashlyn Shields is the player of the round this week. Ashlyn has always been a strong defender but she has worked hard on her offence at training and has put together strong performances in the last few weeks. She hit back to back threes which shifted the momentum in the game as she ended on 12 points for the game.

Won against Warwick Senators (109 – 102)
Coaches Notes
Team started the game engaged and with an intent to really challenge Warwick, this application exposed Warwick in a number of areas and gave the team a 26 point lead at half time, however there were some areas of the game that gave the coaching group concern. We didn’t take that same mindset and level of unselfishness into the 2nd half, and Warwick really made it a grind and clawed their way back into the game. Credit to the team their resilience and some great contributions across the board held off a fast finishing Warwick team.
Player of the game
Honorable mentions this week go to:
Zac Bainbridge – Zac is really starting to assert himself on games on both ends of the floor in the way we knew he could.
Lucas Aird – Lucas is the ultimate teammate, his quiet unassuming, but he turns up every game and gives max effort, we never leave a game wondering if Lucas gave the team his all.
Both these gents embody the selfless nature that at our best is breeding within this group.
But player of the round this week goes to Odin Amundsen, another tireless and selfless worker, he has really developed an understanding of how and where to impact games and has had a really consistent month of basketball.

Coaches Notes
The lads played an outstanding game on the weekend. We made a real conscious effort to stick to our team principles, and it showed just how strong we are when we’re connected at both ends of the floor.
Our decision-making and patience on offence were outstanding. Instead of forcing shots, the boys trusted each other, made the extra pass and in a lot of cases, the extra pass after that which led to quality looks in the flow of our offence. It was awesome to watch.
Defensively, our communication, effort and willingness to help each other were first class. The boys played for one another all game, and that’s the brand of basketball we want to be known for. If we continue to play with that level of trust, discipline and togetherness, we’ll keep putting ourselves in a great position to be successful.
Player of the Game
Sammy DeGuzman. Sammy really stepped up this week. His commitment to creating opportunities for his teammates was fantastic to watch. He played an unselfish brand of basketball, made great decisions with the ball, and put the team first all game. Well done, Sammy. Keep it up, mate!

Loss against Perry Lakes Hawks (62 – 66)
Coaches notes
Tough 4-point loss to Perry Lakes in a physical game that was there for us to win. There were strong stretches where we controlled the game, particularly when we leaned into our pressure identity and dictated tempo. Our ability to generate turnovers gave us momentum and showed what we can be at our best.
The key difference came in finishing defensive possessions. Perry Lakes generated multiple second-chance opportunities through offensive rebounds, allowing them to stay in the game despite low shooting efficiency. At times we forced the stop but didn’t secure the ball, which added pressure on our group.
Offensively, we showed glimpses of strong transition play, but rushed decisions and missed opportunities prevented us from building scoreboard pressure. The final quarter was decided by late-clock and second-chance shots that swung momentum their way.
There is plenty to take from this performance. We showed we can compete with the best, but growth will come from our ability to finish possessions and make better decisions under pressure.
Player of the game
Ryker delivered another strong performance, finishing with 23 points and 9 rebounds while impacting both ends of the floor.

We started off pretty good actually, but in a blink of an eye we were down 28-8. As a group we take accountability for the turnovers we committed, the missed shots (bad ones), and as a coach I would also have to take the chunk of the blame for this game as I went with a different starting 5 as well as a different offense.
Even tho we weren’t scoring it shouldn’t give us an excuse to be soft inside the paint and this is where Hills absolutely took out to town and ate our breakfast lunch and dinner and lets top it off with some dessert. For the first time this season, we weren’t able to contain their best player, and maybe we came in too confident too cocky? I guess being humbled like should do us good.
The last time we lost a game we came out and beat the top team, I expect the effort to improve as we play another top 2 team in Warwick next Sunday.
Player of the Game
James Polinelli has shocked both Lawrence and myself with his growth, having never played WABL before until this season he shot the lights like like he was Klay Thompson and defended and rebound like like was Dray. The overall game he had it, defense, shooting, rebound.. coming back off injury and shaking off the rust last week. 4 x 3s, and you could hear the players on the other team were talking about getting up on him and staying on him. Well done James!
