Eloise Clince (U16 Girls) – Eloise found gaps in the defense, putting herself in positions of to score with her intelligent play and hard work. Eloise kept the opposition under pressure with her aggressive mindset and willingness to seek contact and get to the free-throw line. Amazing work, Eloise.
Zayde McGough (U14 Boys) Zayde is this week’s player of the round for us. While it wasn’t the biggest boxscore game for Zayde, his ability to guard the ball 1 on 1, forcing multiple turnovers, was magnificent. With our team giving up an early lead, Zayde’s energy throughout the second quarter turned the game in our favour.

Loss against East Perth Eagles (25 – 30)
Coaches notes
What an incredible way to start the season!
Facing a team that had previously beaten us convincingly, the girls showed just how much they have grown, delivering a fantastic performance and pushing right to the final buzzer.
We adjusted well to a strong defensive trap, staying composed under pressure and making smart decisions with the ball.
The girls’ defensive hustle in the final minutes, including some great double-teams, helped bring us back within two points against a much bigger-bodied side. The final score includes a lucky 3 made by East Perth with 10 seconds to go. It was a true team effort, with everyone stepping up in key moments.
It was also fantastic to see a few of our girls play their very first WABL game ever! — they adapted quickly, embraced the challenge, and showed great skill and intensity.
Despite having to shuffle positions due to a missing teammate and some foul trouble, the girls handled it brilliantly and picked up their new roles with confidence.
As a coaching team, it was so rewarding to see the team put into practice everything we’ve been working on at training, showing resilience, teamwork, and heart.
Very proud of this group and excited to see what’s ahead
Player of the game
Our Player of the Match, Lahlita Pellicciotti, led with great energy, setting the tone defensively and making sure we remained controlled on offence. She knocked down some big shots and worked hard on the boards, but it was the collective effort across the team that really shone. Well done for an amazing first game Lahlita, scoring 22 points is an amazing effort!

Won against Joondalup Wolves (26 – 23)
Coaches notes
It was most of the girls first WABL game this week, so we started the first quarter slow due to nerves but by the third quarter we started to find our rhythm and started to control most of the game. Our defense was strong and intense, and we were able to get back in the game from fast breaks. Everything we have been working on in training! I am so proud of our efforts this week.
Player of the game
Adley Tollarzo – Adley lead on both ends of the court scoring a strong ten points that got us back into the game. Good job Adley!!

We had a slow start, which was reflected on the scoreboard, but the girls fought back strongly, closing the gap and clearly winning the second half. Overall, for our first game of the season, I’m really proud of how they came together, and I’m excited to see what the season has in store for us.

Loss against Willetton Tigers (33 – 46)
Coaches notes
The boys played really well for their first game in Championship Division. Our motion was great and the defensive intensity continued at the high level that we were known for last season. We have 5 first time WABL players and nobody looked out of place on the court. Willetton were runners up in State Champs so to push them for almost 3 quarters on their home court, shows that if we tidy up a few passes and make some better decisions, we can be a force this year.
Player of the game
We had several strong performers this week which was very pleasing. In the end our player of the game was awarded to Preston Handgraaf for his good shooting and never-say-die attitude on the defensive end. Special mention also to Kirath Dhanjal for his stifling defense and timely shot-making in his first WABL game.
U12 Boys Orange
Coach: Nathan La Cava
Won against Mandurah Magic (51 – 39)
Coaches notes
The boys and the coaching staff were keen to kick off the season, and they came out firing, jumping to a 10-point lead in the first quarter.
Mandurah, with a noticeable size advantage over our team of 10 deep point guards, found their rhythm and worked their way back into the game with more controlled play.
While we generally stuck to our structures, we drifted off-plan at times – but regrouped in the second half to finish strongly.
When we moved the ball, we looked sharp. Nate Farrier (13 pts) and Zac “The Honeybadger” Daly (12 pts) led the way, with great support from Munashe “More Bounce to the Ounce” Rukodzi (8 pts) and AJ Brar (8 pts). Munashe’s fearless energy off the bench was a huge lift – keep it up, young man!
Tane Broadwith (2 pts) showed once again why he’s the ultimate teammate: leadership, grit, and relentless defense. Charlie Wen handled the ball with confidence, Isaac Edwards stepped up defensively, and Kevin Zhang added valuable minutes.
Our Player of the Game was Zac Qian (8 pts), quietly dominating the boards and keeping us composed. Fantastic effort, Zac!
Plenty of positives: strong ball movement, solid defense without fouling, and good composure.
Focus for this week:
- More defensive intensity
- Rebounding, rebounding, rebounding
- Pushing the ball deeper into the corners.
Thank you to Cameron Jenkins (Assistant Coach), Cameron Farrier (Team Manager), and Tejwinder Brar & Jessica Anderson (Score table) for making the game run smoothly.
Looking forward to next week!
Player of the game
Zac Qian (8 pts), our steady anchor in the key, quietly pulling down boards and safely moving the ball up the court. Fantastic effort and composure, Zac—well done!

Loss against Perry Lakes Hawks (50 – 54)
Coaches notes
From the opening tip, our defensive intensity wasn’t where it needs to be at this level, resulting in Perry Lakes getting on top in the first quarter. The lack of defensive stops allowed the Hawks to set up an effective press that, with their length and teamwork, made it tough for us to advance the ball.
On top of that, the Hawks were also able to utilise their height advantage to dominate the glass, opening up a 20-8 lead early in the second quarter. After a quick timeout, the boys came alive through effort and intensity on the defensive end, forcing turnovers by working as a unit, going on a 14-0 run to get on top, taking a 2 point lead into half time.
The rest of the game was an arm-wrestle with neither team able to extend the lead beyond a few points and included several lead changes. However, the Hawks closed out the game stronger, taking a 4 point win. We are going to be in tough and close games all season long and will need a four quarter effort on defense to put wins on the board.
Theo, Zarene and Malachi worked well as a three-man unit to pressure the ball and turn the game around in the second quarter, showing the intensity required. Carter and Lennox battled the Hawks’ bigs all game, walling up well and fighting for rebounds, hopefully we can help them out with a better effort boxing out next week.
Player of the game
Our player of the game today was Harry Allan. Harry led us in scoring as he has been doing throughout the pre-season, but it was the effort shown on the defensive end that the coaches have been looking for that is really starting to show on the court, great effort Harry.

Loss against Mandurah Magic (44 – 61)
Coaches notes
Heading into Round 1 short-handed, we knew it would be a challenge – and the first quarter showed it, with nerves and confidence struggles putting us down 20 – 6 early.
However, in the second quarter, we regrouped, regained our composure, and got to work. By focusing on ball movement and smarter decision-making, we fought for every basket and outscored our opposition for the quarter.
We carried that momentum into the third, closing the gap to just 9 points, but fatigue started to set in and Mandurah took advantage.
The fourth quarter saw a second wind from our boys as we once again outscored our opponents, but the early damage proved too much to fully recover from.
Despite the result, the boys showed great heart, fought to the very end, and should be proud of their effort!
Player of the game
Andrej Glogovac
At times, Andrej can be hard on himself when things don’t go perfectly right away. However, in this game, his determination and focus were outstanding. He consistently put himself in the right positions, played to his strengths, and made smart adjustments when needed. His ability to read the play was a real asset, and his shooting accuracy earned him the title of leading scorer for the game.
Andrej, your hunger to improve is paying off more than you realize – well done. Keep pushing!

Loss against Willetton Tigers (40 – 59)
Coaches notes
It’s great to be back on court for another season, and we were excited to get things underway against a strong Willetton Tigers Blue outfit.
While we matched up well in many areas, our lack of intent on the boards and a high turnover count made it tough to compete at the level we know we’re capable of. Winning the possession battle will be key for us moving forward, and we’ll need to place a greater focus on both securing and protecting the ball if we want to achieve our goals this season.
There were plenty of positives to take away — our shot selection was mostly strong, allowing us to keep our field goal percentage competitive across the game. Defensively, we held Tigers to a reasonable shooting clip, but second-chance opportunities hurt us and kept the pressure on.
Our group is strong, determined, and hungry to prove ourselves — we’re looking forward to building on this performance and can’t wait for a rematch later in the season.
Player of the game
Cara Woodgate – Being new to a team can be tough, but Cara made it look easy! From the moment she arrived, it felt like she had been part of our group for years. While she led us in scoring this week, it was her intensity, hustle, and voice on defense that stood out most. A brilliant debut performance – the future looks incredibly bright for this young superstar!

Loss against South West Slammers (27 – 44)
Coaches notes
Team White kicked off the season with a 4 PM game in Bunbury, and the late start may have contributed to a slightly flat opening. However, as the game progressed, the team’s energy lifted, particularly through their full-court pressure, which created numerous turnovers and scoring opportunities.
Eliza Prevett and Sandra Chan stepped up when we needed it most, providing vital points to keep us in the contest. In the final quarter, the girls lifted again, showing real intensity and a more aggressive offensive approach. Unfortunately, by that point, the margin was too great and time wasn’t on our side.
A special mention to our DP, Allaina Stringer, who stepped in confidently, adding 4 important points and providing strong defensive presence under the basket.
The biggest positive was the fight and spirit shown in that final quarter—something the girls should be really proud of. I’m excited to see them bring that same intensity from the opening tip in next week’s home game!
Player of the game
Eliza P is our Player of the Round for top-scoring with 9 points and providing exceptional defensive pressure and physicality throughout the game. Her all-round effort and leadership were key in keeping us competitive. Great job, Eliza!

Loss against Mandurah Magic (28 – 42)
Coaches notes
All the girls should be really proud of themselves. Even though we didn’t get the result we were hoping for, their improvement since grading has been incredible. They came out strong in the first half, rebounding and defending well, and were able to match it with Mandurah early on.
Unfortunately, we were a little slow to start the third quarter, and Mandurah took advantage with some quick points that we couldn’t quite claw back.
Full credit to the girls – they kept their heads up and fought hard right to the final whistle. As this team continues to grow in confidence, strength, and decision-making, they’re going to become a force to be reckoned with.
Player of the game
Cassidy – It’s hard to single out an individual but this week it was Cassidy. Cassidy came out strong and nailed the rebounds every time she was out there. She looked to move the ball up the court quickly and was composed under pressure.
U14 Boys Black
Coach: Declan Kinsella
Won against Willetton Tigers (59 – 53)
Coaches notes
We battled through adversity on Sunday to secure a hard-fought 59-53 victory over the Tigers. They came out with tremendous energy, seizing an early lead and forcing us onto the back foot. However, we remained composed and resilient, gradually clawing our way back into the contest through relentless defensive pressure and unwavering determination. Our ability to disrupt their rhythm and capitalize on key opportunities shifted the momentum in our favour. By the fourth quarter, our persistence paid off, as we executed with precision and poise to pull away down the stretch. It was a testament to our grit, cohesion, and competitive spirit — a win we earned through sheer perseverance.
Player of the game
Zayde McGough – Zayde is this week’s player of the round for us. While it wasn’t the biggest boxscore game for Zayde, his ability to guard the ball 1 on 1, forcing multiple turnovers, was magnificent. With our team giving up an early lead, Zayde’s energy throughout the second quarter turned the game in our favour.
U14 Boys Orange
Coach: Ben Marks
Won against Cockburn Cougars (63 – 48)
Coaches notes
A fast start saw us open a 17-4 lead in the first quarter due to some impressive defensive pressure and running our transition game. The Cougars clawed back in the second quarter as we struggled to look after the ball and forced one to many shots. Another strong start to the third quarter saw us extended the lead but to their credit, the Cougars hit some timely outside shots and hustled hard to stay within striking distance going into the 4th. To the boy’s credit, they kept their cool and held on for a 15-point win. It was great to finally get a full game under our belts after a few weeks of some injuries and sickness as well as breaks due to the school holidays and Easter.
Some positive aspects of the game were our willingness to kick the ball ahead to create advantage out in transition and some moments of solid defensive pressure. Our ball movement in the half court is something we have been working on lately at training. Whilst we had our moments, this is still an area of improvement. A great positive from the game was the balanced scoring attack and positive contributions from all ten players that hit the court. Our top scorers were Frank (16pts), Zane (10pts), Nathanael (10pts) and Cohen (8pts). The focus this week at training will be refining our key offensive actions, finishing at the rim and one on one defense.
Player of the game
Player of the round this week goes to Nathanael. He was big when we needed him the most. Whether it was taking a charge, throwing a long outlet pass for an assist, hitting the offensive glass for putbacks or getting to the rim to score, he took charge of the game when the Cougars were looking like they were getting momentum. Well done on an all-round solid game Nathanael.
U14 Boys White
Coach: Dave Gan
Won against East Perth Eagles (56 – 32)
Coaches notes
We kicked off the season against East Perth Eagles 2 – a team we tied with at State Champs – making it a great test of our progress. Although they had some roster changes, we expected a similar challenge.
From the outset, the boys brought strong intensity. Traditionally slow starters, we were switched on early. We chose to play a half-court set defense rather than press, grinding them down with disciplined 1-on-1 defense. The game was physical, and while we benefited from some calls, we adjusted well and stayed aggressive.
Defensively, our help and rotation were excellent, showing great teamwork. Offensively, we ran through an Elbow entry setup, then played freely from there, with mostly smart shot selections.
We rotated both DPs into the game and gave Medhi, Isaac, and Christian primary ball-handling duties, with Kobe supporting. Consistent guard play helped us build a 13-point lead by the end of the third quarter.
The fourth quarter plan was to extend the lead early, then rotate all players equally – and it worked. Preston, Austin, Damon, Chandler, and Kobe opened with a 15-0 run, blowing the margin out to 28 points and allowing everyone to share court time.
Despite missing D’Antwuan and Hayden, the depth of the team was clear. Beating a team by 24 points that we previously tied with shows how much we’ve grown. It’s a shame we weren’t fully fit for Grading, but it’s exciting to see how far this group has come.
Players Report
- Brodie: Early foul trouble but recovered well. 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 5 pts (50% FG).
- Austin: Strong game with 8 rebounds, 13 pts (66.7% FG).
- Preston: 7 rebounds, 7 steals, 6 pts (33% FG) with relentless effort.
- Kobe: 6 assists, 5 steals, 7 pts (60% FG).
- Damon: 3 rebounds, 2 steals, 9 pts (57.1% FG) and zero turnovers.
- Kian: Caused multiple loose balls; impact beyond the box score.
- Medhi: Good shot selection, poise in the paint, 4 steals, and impressive interior defense.
- Isaac: 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, strong ball handling and defensive rotations.
- Christian: Solid return from injury with 2 pts and steady play.
- Chandler: Also returning from injury with 2 pts and zero turnovers.
Player of the game
Multiple players stood out but for this week, Preston Massam wins player of the round, setting the tone from the very first tip-off. Even with a slow offensive start, his effort never dropped – rebounding, hustling, diving for loose balls, and leading by example. When he made mistakes, he didn’t complain; he worked harder to fix them, embodying the team identity we’re building.
I’m very proud of how far Preston has come since State Champs. He’s embracing the expectations set for him and showing true leadership through effort, not just scoring – a tough job he handled brilliantly.

The exciting part is knowing that if we can extend those efforts to 6–7 minutes at a time, we have the potential to really dominate this division. Won against Mandurah Magic (81 – 69)
Coaches notes
Starting the season with a home win is always a great feeling, especially when every player steps on the court and contributes.
We jumped out to an early double-digit lead, but credit to Mandurah — they fought back and even led by halftime. After a tough third quarter with multiple lead changes, we steadied to take a 4-point advantage into the final break and finished strongly.
A big highlight was our work on the boards, outrebounding Mandurah 41–28. While turnovers (28) were an issue, our defensive pressure forced 32 turnovers, creating plenty of opportunities.
Ryker Phillips was outstanding off the bench with 9 steals, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 7 key points. Tadiwa Kukodzi led the scoring with 22 points (9/14 shooting), supported by Raymond Tafira (15 points) and Prince Balila (12 second-half points).
We also saw promising performances from Amani Kongawoin (8 points, 6 rebounds) and Connor Addis (5 points, 8 rebounds) as they continue to grow into their roles.
With first-game nerves behind us, we’re excited for the next challenge against the Warwick Senators Greens. Early signs are really positive — the team is bonding well, roles are becoming clearer, and contributions are coming from everywhere. Let’s keep the momentum going…
Player of the game
Our first Player of the Round for the season is Ryker Phillips, whose energy, effort, and impact off the bench were simply outstanding in our win over the Mandurah Magic. Ryker was everywhere on the court, finishing with an incredible stat line of 9 steals, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 7 valuable points. His defensive hustle created numerous scoring opportunities and helped swing momentum back in our favour during crucial stages of the game.
Ryker’s consistency at both ends of the floor and his willingness to do the hard work for the team was commendable. His ability to make game-changing plays without needing to dominate the ball shows just how important he will be for us moving forward. Congratulations Ryker, a well-deserved recognition and a great start to the season. Keep it up…

Won against Joondalup Wolves (53 – 44)
Coaches notes
We pulled away with a strong second and third quarter, outscoring Joondalup 31–18.
Despite a slow start and trailing after the first quarter, the team displayed great composure, tightened their defense, and improved shot selection to swing the momentum.
Although the Joondalup Wolves started strong, they struggled offensively in the second half as our defensive pressure increased.
Defensive adjustments after the first quarter were crucial in shutting down Joondalup’s scoring opportunities.
Ball movement and passing improved through the middle quarters, leading to easier baskets.
Team energy from the bench helped maintain momentum during key stretches.
Rebounding efforts were vital, especially given the Suns’ smaller size compared to Joondalup.

Coaches notes
A fantastic start to the season with a well-earned win. We were a bit sluggish in the first half, allowing them to score 5 quick points at the end of each quarter, which cut into our lead. Despite that, we went into halftime with a 3-point advantage.
The third quarter, known as the premiership quarter, was when we really stepped up, outscoring them 25-12 to extend our lead to 16 points. We then controlled the game in the final quarter to secure an 18-point victory.
Lukah led the way with 17 points, while Ronron played a composed game for 12 points. Jermaine contributed 11 points, and Edzon and Tommy each added 9. Adam and Ben were massive for us defensively, with Adam also scoring 8 points.

Loss against Hills Raiders (57 – 88)
Coaches notes
It was great to get onto the court and get a game under our belts, despite not achieving the result we wanted. From a team perspective, I was pleased with the leadership from a couple of the players, and their influence on their team-mates. We knew full well that this was going to be a tough game, and we were certainly the smaller team in a physical sense. With that in mind, the team managed to win a quarter and there were several phases where we gained momentum and challenged strongly. I look forward to the challenge Raiders present us later in the season.
Player of the game
This week Coach James and I saw strong contributions from a few of the boys, and I expect improvement across the board as the season progresses. So credit to Adam, Will and Noah for battling when they were outsized, to Atticus and Artin for their creativity and effort, to Sam and Reuben for their defensive rotations (which can go unnoticed). Ethan and Billy offered their usual leadership, which we certainly needed in a tough first hit-out. We had patches where everyone offered a spark… but no-one offered a greater spark that Kyan! We set our defense to manage the tempo in the first 4 minutes, so we didn’t get run out of our own gym. But unfortunately, we couldn’t win that arm wrestle and get the game on our terms. We had planned to use Kyan as the spark plug and substitute him in early to speed the game up on our terms… and he 100% did that. James and I were in a position where we had to use him in his role a little more than we would have liked, but he undoubtably gave us everything he had. This young man is a pleasure to coach, and he will be a big factor for our team this season. He’s a quick learner and a positive influence on his team-mates. Kyan provided a return of 9 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 7 steals! Well done Kyan!

Loss against Warwick Senators (56 – 77)
Coaches notes
A close loss to this Warwick team at State Champs meant we were in for a tough first game but we didn’t expect Warwick’s impressive shooting. They made six 3-pointers in the first quarter (and 11 for the game), which put us on the back foot early. Our girls showed great resilience throughout the game though, fighting back several times to stay in touch but ultimately we couldn’t match their shot-making. There are some encouraging signs to build on, with strong moments of offensive play and on-ball defense. The challenge ahead will be building consistency and responding effectively to scoring runs.
Player of the game
A few players deserve recognition this week, with honourable mentions to Macee Rothnie for her resilience all game, Ellie Indich for her strong all-around play and Rachel Moore for leading by example, but our player of the round is Ashleigh Calvert. Ashleigh’s impact on the game won’t always show up on the scoresheet, but her strong defense, unselfish play and ability to keep the ball moving on offence (which generates opportunities for her teammates) will be key to our success this season. Well done Ashleigh.

It is to be credited to the entire team who came out firing despite the initial system gremlins which saw the first quarter hindered by constant stop starts.
I think they surprised themselves by staying evenly matched point for point pretty much the first half which ended 34-38.
A lapse in concentration in the third quarter mainly down to experience, saw Perry Lakes take charge. A good finish but unfortunately we couldn’t claw back that 3rd quarter deficit.
Must mention some fantastic displays of relentless defense which resulted in some important steels and conversions by Lisa.
Player of the game
Grace – Grace showed great poise and determination throughout the entire game. Although picking up a few early fouls it didn’t sway her from working hard both ends of the court. So good to see her confident in driving the ball into the paint and impacting the entire game.
Well done to all teams and we look forward to round 2!
