Milestone Night Split as Suns Host Warwick

It was a special night at Ray Owen Sports Centre on Thursday, as the Eastern Suns hosted the Warwick Senators in Round 2 of the 2026 NBL1 West season—headlined by Seb Salinas’ 550th career game, further extending his remarkable legacy.

The occasion delivered a split result for the Suns, with the women falling to a strong Warwick side, while the men rose to the moment with an impressive win.

WOMEN

The Suns women went down 68–92, despite a competitive opening half that saw them remain within striking distance.

The Suns showed strong intent early, matching Warwick across the first two quarters before the visitors pulled away in the second half, including a decisive final term.

Gabriela Bronson led the Suns offensively with 20 points, adding 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in another strong all-around performance.

Co-captain Emma Strelein continued her consistent start to the season with 13 points, 3 assists and 2 steals, while Alyssa Bowen added 11 points and 4 rebounds in an efficient outing.

Ella Averill finished with 9 rebounds to go along with 8 points, providing a strong presence.

MEN

On a night celebrating a SBL/NBL1 great, the Suns men delivered a fitting result, defeating Warwick 98–92 in a high-quality contest.

With momentum swings throughout the game, the Suns produced a dominant second-quarter defensive effort to take control, before holding off a late Warwick surge in the final term.

Terrandus Smith led the charge with a game-high 24 points, alongside 7 rebounds and 3 assists, setting the tone offensively.

Joe Cook-Green added 14 points and 3 assists, while Marley Sam made a major impact across the board with 12 points, 8 assists and 4 steals, controlling the tempo and creating opportunities.

Inside, Jordan Simpson was influential with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks, anchoring the Suns on both ends.

Fittingly, Seb Salinas marked his 550th game with a strong contribution of 13 points and 2 assists, playing a key role in the win on his milestone night.
