Suns Take on Warwick and Geraldton in Double-Header Weekend
The Eastern Suns faced a challenging double-header weekend, travelling to Warwick on Friday night before returning home for the Mitchell Delle Coste Memorial Game against Geraldton.
The weekend featured a mix of results, with the women falling short against Warwick, the men producing a dominant offensive display against the Senators, and a competitive Memorial Game contest against the Buccaneers.
WOMEN v WARWICK
The Suns women went down 80–89 to Warwick in a competitive contest that remained in the balance throughout the night.
The Suns battled hard after Warwick established an early lead, responding strongly in the third quarter to reduce the margin and put themselves back in the contest. However, the Senators were able to hold firm in the final period to secure the result.
Trista Hull continued her strong form with 19 points, 14 rebounds and 3 blocks, producing another dominant double-double performance.
Alyssa Bowen also added 19 points, while Gabriela Bronson contributed 15 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists in a well-rounded display.
Despite the result, the Suns showed plenty of fight and competitiveness against a strong Warwick side.
MEN v WARWICK
The Suns men delivered one of their most dominant performances of the season, defeating Warwick 120–99 in a high-scoring road victory.
After a strong opening quarter, the Suns exploded offensively in the second term, scoring 34 points to build a commanding halftime lead. The group maintained its intensity after the break, continuing to score efficiently and controlling the game through the final siren.
Seventeen-year-old Marley Sam produced a remarkable performance, scoring 40 points to go with 8 assists and 3 steals in a standout display.
Joe Cook-Green added 25 points and 3 assists, helping lead a powerful Suns offensive effort.
The win showcased the Suns’ ability to generate scoring from all areas of the floor and execute consistently across four quarters.
MEN v GERALDTON (MITCHELL DELLE COSTE MEMORIAL GAME)
The Suns men fell 95–103 to Geraldton in the Mitchell Delle Coste Memorial Game, despite a strong and competitive performance against the Buccaneers.
The contest was played at a high standard throughout, with the Suns remaining within reach across all four quarters. Geraldton was able to create a narrow advantage through the middle stages before holding on late in a tight finish.
Terrandus Smith led the Suns with 24 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.
Marley Sam added 22 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals, earning the Mitchell Delle Coste Memorial Game MVP award for his outstanding all-around performance.
Joe Cook-Green contributed 18 points and 3 assists as the Suns continued to fight until the final siren.
The double-header weekend provided another strong test for the Suns, with competitive performances against quality opposition. The women showed fight against Warwick, while the men delivered a dominant win on the road before pushing Geraldton in a high-quality Memorial Game contest.
