Suns Split Results Against Redbacks

The Eastern Suns travelled to Belmont Oasis on Friday night to take on the Perth Redbacks, returning home with a split result as the women fell in a high-scoring contest while the men continued their strong form with an impressive road victory.

Despite the contrasting outcomes, both teams produced strong individual performances throughout the evening.

WOMEN

The Suns women went down 75–82 to the Redbacks in a game that featured momentum swings throughout the night.

After a strong opening quarter, the Redbacks responded with a huge second period to take control of the contest. The Suns continued to fight back throughout the second half and remained within striking distance, but were unable to completely close the gap.

Gabriela Bronson led the Suns with 24 points and 7 rebounds, continuing her outstanding season with another influential performance.

Alyssa Bowen added 15 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals, while Trista Hull recorded another dominant double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds to go with an impressive 6 blocks.

Kayla Kiriau also made a major contribution, finishing with 13 points, 3 assists and 5 steals in one of her strongest performances of the season.

While the result didn’t fall their way, the Suns showed resilience throughout the contest and continued to compete until the final siren.

MEN

The Suns men produced another strong team performance, defeating the Redbacks 99–82 to continue their momentum heading into the back half of the season.

After a tight opening quarter, the Suns took control through a dominant second period, piling on 32 points to establish a lead they would never surrender. The visitors maintained that momentum throughout the second half to secure a comfortable victory.

Marley Sam claimed top-scoring honours with 25 points and filled the stat sheet with 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and a block, while Joe Cook-Green had 23 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists in another efficient offensive display.

Terrandus Smith continued his strong campaign with 22 points and 4 steals, providing his usual impact at both ends of the floor.

Lewis Thomas anchored the defence with 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks, helping the Suns control the paint and limit second-chance opportunities.

The win was another example of the Suns’ balanced offensive attack and defensive pressure, with contributions coming from across the roster.

The Suns leave the weekend with a split result and plenty of positives to build on. The women continued to show fight against a quality Redbacks outfit, while the men delivered another composed road performance to secure an important victory. With strong individual performances across both teams and momentum continuing to build, the Suns now turn their attention to the next challenge as the season approaches its business end.
