Suns Split Double-Header Weekend Against Eagles and Wolves

The Eastern Suns took on a challenging double-header weekend, travelling to face the East Perth Eagles before returning home to host the Joondalup Wolves.

The weekend delivered a split set of results, with both Suns teams securing impressive victories against East Perth before narrowly falling short against Joondalup in two entertaining contests.

Across the four games, the Suns showcased resilience, and offensive firepower, collecting valuable wins and pushing the opposition all the way.


WOMEN

v East Perth Eagles

The Suns women opened the weekend in dramatic fashion, defeating East Perth 82–80 in an overtime thriller.

The Suns controlled much of the contest early, building an advantage through the opening half before the Eagles fought back to force an extra period. When the game was on the line, the Suns held their composure in overtime to secure a hard-earned road victory.

Gabriela Bronson led the Suns with 17 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists, while Yume Knoll produced another strong all-around performance with 15 points.

Trista Hull continued her excellent form with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks, making a significant impact at both ends of the floor.

v Joondalup Wolves

Backing up the following night, the Suns fell 82–94 to the Wolves despite another competitive performance. The night also marked a 100 club and league game milestone for co-captain Jaymee Firkins.

The contest remained tightly balanced through three quarters before Joondalup pulled away in the final period to claim the result.

Bronson starred with a dominant double-double of 27 points and 10 rebounds, adding 5 assists in one of her strongest performances of the season.

Alyssa Bowen contributed 13 points and 9 rebounds, while Trista Hull recorded another near double-double with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Emma Strelein added 12 points as the Suns continued to battle until the final siren.


MEN

v East Perth Eagles

The Suns men continued their strong form with a 96–83 victory over East Perth.

After trailing at halftime, the Suns exploded in the second half, scoring 59 points across the final two quarters to take control of the contest.

Joe Cook-Green was outstanding, pouring in 30 points while adding 9 assists in a dominant offensive display.

Terrandus Smith continued his consistent season with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists, while Marley Sam added 20 points, 6 assists and 3 steals.

The result further strengthened the Suns’ position among the competition’s leading teams.

v Joondalup Wolves

The men closed the weekend with one of the highest-scoring games of the season, ultimately falling 118–124 to the Wolves.

In a fast-paced offensive shootout, both teams traded baskets throughout the evening. Despite scoring 118 points, the Suns were unable to contain a red-hot Joondalup outfit that surged in the third quarter before holding on late.

Joe Cook-Green continued his outstanding weekend with 34 points, while Terrandus Smith added 26 points and 5 steals.

Marley Sam was again influential with 25 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds as the Suns pushed the Wolves right until the final buzzer.


A split weekend ultimately provided plenty of positives for the Suns. The women secured a gritty overtime victory against East Perth before producing another competitive showing against Joondalup, while the men continued to demonstrate their offensive strength with a commanding road win over the Eagles and a 118-point performance against the Wolves.

While the Joondalup games didn’t fall the Suns’ way, both contests highlighted the group’s ability to compete with strong oppositions. With strong individual performances and valuable experience gained across the weekend, the Suns now turn their focus toward the next challenge as the season continues.
