The Eastern Suns celebrated Heritage Round proudly sponsored by Midland Mitsubishi on Saturday night, reflecting on the club’s rich history while recognising one of its long time supporters with the unveiling of the Terry Correia Stand at Ray Owen Sports Centre.
In front of a strong home crowd, the Suns produced a split result against the Perry Lakes Hawks, with the women falling short despite a strong first half, while the men stormed home in the final quarter to secure an impressive comeback victory.
WOMEN
The Suns women went down 66–76 to the Hawks in a game that saw momentum swing dramatically after halftime.
The home side started strongly, taking control through the opening two quarters and carrying a 15-point lead into the main break after holding Perry Lakes to just 27 first-half points.
However, the Hawks responded after halftime, producing a dominant third quarter before continuing their momentum into the final period to overturn the deficit and claim the win.
Gabriela Bronson led the Suns offensively with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists, continuing her consistent form throughout the season.

Alyssa Bowen contributed across multiple areas with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists as the Suns battled until the final siren.
MEN
The Suns men produced another memorable comeback, overcoming a 13-point halftime deficit to defeat Perry Lakes 95–90.
After a challenging first half, the Suns emerged from the break with renewed energy, putting up 31 points in the third quarter to swing momentum back in their favour before closing out the game with a strong final term.
Joe Cook-Green was outstanding, finishing with 25 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals in one of his best performances of the season.
Terrandus Smith continued his strong form with 23 points and 6 assists, while Marley Sam added 19 points, 4 assists and 4 steals in another influential display.
The win showcased the resilience that has become a hallmark of the Suns men’s group this season, overcoming adversity and executing when the game was on the line.
Heritage Round proved to be a memorable occasion both on and off the court. The unveiling of the Terry Correia Stand provided a fitting opportunity to honour one of the club’s biggest supporters and celebrate the history of the Eastern Suns.
While the women were unable to maintain their strong first-half advantage, the men delivered another impressive comeback victory to continue their momentum. As the season enters a crucial stage, both teams will take valuable lessons from the weekend as they continue their push towards finals basketball.
