Welcome to Season 1 ,2020. It is so exciting to see many familiar faces back in 2020 and a special hello to all our new players this season. We also welcome Brighton Pass as our new Competitions & Communications Manager. A welcome back to Angela Cameron & Shane Lowe as our Referee Coordinators. With their experience and contacts we have already seen an increase in the number of games with two referees on court. If you have any queries in regard to the rules of basketball please feel free to have a chat to them or someone from our Referee Leadership Group.
The Junior Registration Day was a great opportunity for players to join teams and as a result we have lots of new teams playing this season. We are, however, looking at ways to improve the number of girls playing basketball at KDBA. This is an ongoing journey and we hope some of the changes made for this season will start to see more girls coming to play basketball.
You asked, we listened. Our Little Ballers program has transformed into the new U11s competition and Rising Suns League. So those relatively new to basketball who want a fun, safe and informative experience should be playing in Rising Suns. This league is split into three levels to ensure everyone gets the opportunity to learn the fundamentals with their mates whilst being helped along by our specialist coach/referees on court. It’s great watching the kids hone their skills beforehand and then put it into practice in their game. The U11s competition is for those wanting to play competitive basketball. This full rule competition is a great way to begin your journey at KDBA and who knows, maybe one day playing for our Eastern Suns WABL teams. Many of those playing in our Eastern Suns SBL teams started playing at this level and have now progressed to representing KDBA at the highest level of State Basketball.
A huge numbers of teams not only in Local Competition but also our WABL program has meant that court space is a premium this season. We hope to work with teams looking to train at the stadium but ask you please understand that this is not always a possibility. Please contact Brighton to discuss options for training times.
