After more than a month at home, the Eastern Suns are back on the road for some Friday night basketball action against the Cockburn Cougars.

The Eastern Suns Women’s team are coming off another heartbreaker, going down in overtime on Sunday after a buzzer-beater ended their hopes of back-to-back wins. They’ll be looking to bounce back against a formidable Cockburn outfit who remain undefeated and sit atop the ladder after a commanding 31-point win over Willetton.

Men
The Eastern Suns Men will also be looking to rebound from last week’s loss. Cockburn are hungry too, after falling to Willetton by just one point last weekend. The Cougars will also be out to avenge their narrow Round 6 defeat at the hands of the Suns.

It was a tale of two halves for the Suns. Down big at halftime, they came out with grit in the second half to outscore the Cougars—but the early deficit proved too much.

Karly Murphy earned Pink Round MVP honours with a monstrous 30-point, 21-rebound double-double. Olivia Berry also impressed with 18 points, while Alyssa Bowen made a strong 2025 debut.

The Suns Men pulled off a thrilling comeback in Round 6. After a dominant third quarter by Cockburn, the Suns rallied late to take the win. It was a special night for milestone men Lewis Thomas and Joel Vaiangina, both celebrating their 100th games.

Marshall Nelson led all scorers with 28 points and 11 rebounds to claim Pink Round MVP honours, while Travis Fee added 21 points. Vaiangina capped off his milestone match with 13 points and critical contributions on both ends of the floor.

ONES TO WATCH

Women
Karly Murphy will be one to watch again—last time out against Cockburn she was unstoppable. With a dominant inside presence, she’ll be crucial in the Suns’ push to upset the ladder-leaders.

Men
Captain Lewis Thomas was the MVP last week and will once again be called upon to lead by example. Expect him to set the tone defensively and push the tempo in transition.

With both teams hungry to respond from last-round losses, expect fireworks in this Friday night showdown at Wally Hagan Stadium.
