At Eastern Suns, we are continuing to build a connected player development pathway that gives athletes opportunities to develop at every stage of their basketball journey.
As we prepare for the upcoming WABL Trials, we are also excited to continue the next stages of our high-performance pathway through Summit Elevate and introduce the Summit Elite Academy. Together, these programs are designed to create greater connection between junior basketball, WABL and senior high-performance basketball.
WABL Trials
WABL Trials are the starting point for many athletes in the Eastern Suns pathway.
Our selection process looks beyond simply who scores the most points. Coaches will assess athletes across a range of areas including skill, basketball IQ, decision-making, teamwork, coachability, attitude, effort, athleticism and potential.
We want athletes who are willing to learn, compete and contribute to their team.
For returning Suns athletes and players joining us from other associations, trials provide an opportunity to demonstrate what they can bring to the program and earn a place within our WABL teams.

Summit Elevate
Summit Elevate is designed to provide additional development opportunities for athletes from U12 through to U20 athletes who are ready to challenge themselves. We have enjoyed delivering the program throughout Term 3 with the program welcoming new athletes every week.
The program will complement athletes’ existing club and WABL commitments, with a focus on developing the complete athlete.
Registrations for the term 4 program will be open soon.
Summit Elite
Summit Elite Academy will provide a more advanced high-performance environment. A key focus of Summit Elite is establishing a genuine pathway between WABL and NBL1, helping athletes understand what is required to progress into senior basketball.
Summit Elite is focused on preparing athletes for the demands of senior basketball and creating opportunities to train, compete and learn in an environment that reflects the standards of the NBL1 program.
The program will place an increased emphasis on:
- High-level competition
- Advanced tactical and technical development
- Off Court development
- Basketball IQ and decision-making
- Leadership and accountability
- NBL1 exposure and connection
- Understanding the expectations of senior basketball
The intention is not simply to create better junior players, but to help develop athletes who are ready for the next level.
Costs associated from October through to NBL1 preseason: $650

One Connected Eastern Suns Pathway
WABL, Summit Elevate and Summit Elite each have a different role, but they are connected by the same objective and working together to develop a genuine Eastern Suns Basketball pathway.
We want our athletes to understand that their development doesn’t stop when they make a WABL team. There should be opportunities to continue challenging themselves, accessing high-level coaching and understanding what the next step looks like.
Every athlete’s journey will look different, but our role is to provide the environment, opportunities and support that allow athletes to continue progressing.
As WABL Trials approach and our high-performance programs continue to grow, we are excited about what the future looks like for the next generation of Eastern Suns athletes.
