Won against East Perth Eagles (53 – 49)
Coaches notes
We knew East Perth were capable of putting up big scores, so defense was our focus going in. Also, limiting our turnovers was equally as important given their ability to score in transition. An 11 – 2 opening quarter was exactly what we needed, and a great boost of confidence in our game plan. The passing was good, as was our finishing around the basket. Unfortunately holding them to 2 points each quarter was unrealistic, and they waited until the final quarter to make a push. We started the quarter 17 points up, and ended 4 points up after a few nervous possessions to end the game. It’s all experience for the team and a lesson learned in execution and finishing games off. A welcome, and much needed win for us.
Player of the game
It was tough picking one player as we had several contributors. However, Derrick Coleman was awarded our player of the game award for his work on both ends of the court. He posted his highest WABL score so far, played some terrific defense, passed and rebounded well and provided sure ball handling. Well done Derrick.

Coach: Nathan La Cava
Won against Mandurah Magic (80 – 46)
Coaches notes
This week saw us make a late afternoon trip down to Mandurah. Despite being down a key player with AJ Brar away , the boys were fired up with a 26–14 first-quarter lead and never looked back. The coaching staff were especially pleased with the team’s defence, the boys locked in, rotating smartly, creating traps, and shutting down easy scoring chances. That defense laid the foundation for a dominant 34-point win.
Offensively, it was a full team effort, with every player getting on the scoreboard. The attack was led by Nate Farrier with a huge 30-point performance, including some clutch free throw shooting. Tane Broadwith added 12, Zac Qian 11, Charlie Wen 8, and Jeremiah James 7 with some crafty play. Zac Daly (4pts) ran the point with control, distributing the ball well and managing the tempo, while Munashe Rukodzi (4pts) and Isaac Edwards (2pts) were rocks on the defensive end. Kevin Zhang, scored his first ever WABL points with a buzzer-beating trick shot off the backboard, sending the players wild The entire team rushed him in celebration, a moment that felt every bit like a championship-winning play. Well done to all the boys for a strong finish to the day and for showing once again what playing as a unit looks like.
Player of the game
Player of the game it was hard to look past Nate Farrier & Tane Broadwith who played 100% the whole game. Both were fantastic at both ends of the floor and had a great mix of passing and driving the lane. Overall Nate is this weeks player of the game with his excellent free throw shooting. Well done Nate.

Coach: Terrence Murdoch
Won against Lakeside Lightning (60 – 46)
Coaches notes
This week the boys continued their strong form with a convincing win over Lakeside White in their own building, playing a selfless, team-first brand of basketball that was a joy to watch. From the outset, our defensive intent was clear—putting backcourt pressure on the Lightning, forcing turnovers, and generating offence, with a 10-0 start setting the tone.
Our willingness to make the extra pass stood out and led to some of our best passages of play this season. The boys are really starting to play connected basketball at both ends of the floor and are developing the skill of adapting to in-game changes—an area we’ll keep improving as the season goes on.
We’re also seeing the grit, effort, and “will” skills developing to match their basketball talent. The improvements in help defence, closeouts, and chasing down rebounds are all signs of their growth and hunger to compete.
Their effort and focus at training over recent weeks has been excellent, and the results are showing on the court. The coaching group is proud of how the boys are playing for each other with effort, intent, and determination at the core.
Well done boys, get ready for a big challenge next week at Willetton!
Player of the game
This was a great team win but one player stood out in particular. Harry Allen was this week’s player of the game. A dynamic scorer, Harry is starting to see the game with a wider lens, and his decision making continues to improve week to week. Add to that his improved hustle and communication at the defensive end and it is clear he has taken a step forward in his development as a player and a teammate. Keep up the good work Harry!
Honourable mentions to Stellan Edowai – another great all-round game with good decision making, building on last week’s effort; and Carter Murdoch – a strong rebounding game with a stout defensive effort to go with some great passing. Great job boys!

Coaches notes
Sometimes you can play a great game of basketball and just run into a team that plays an even better one… that was us this week. We played a solid game for long stretches and did a lot of things right, creating good looks, forcing turnovers, and playing disciplined defence. Unfortunately, the Wolves (to their credit) put on a three-point shooting clinic, going 8/16 from deep allowing them to pull away down the stretch. Free throw shooting remains our Achilles heel. If we had capitalised on our chances at the line, we would have given ourselves every opportunity to take the game. To turn our effort into results, we need to fight harder for rebounds and make the most of the opportunities we earn.
Player of the game
Stephanie Evans – Steph delivered a composed, two-way performance in a high-pressure game. She made smart decisions, was aggressive in looking for her own shot, and made her teammates better with 3 assists. On the defensive end, she was disruptive and managed 4 steals.
What stood out most was the clear growth in her game over the past couple of weeks. She’s taken on board feedback from our mid-season review and is applying it on the floor. Her willingness to learn and drive to push her limits is a joy to see. Great work, Steph!

Coaches notes
After edging out the Eagles by just one point last time, the girls came in fired up to make a statement, and they delivered. We opened with our trademark defensive pressure, creating turnovers early, but couldn’t quite convert. Offensively, we were aggressive, but at times rushed our shots or missed that extra pass to an open teammate. Despite that, we held a narrow 2-point lead at both breaks. Q3 – the girls came out “logged in” (team joke) and it showed. They lifted their intensity, moved the ball selflessly, and began punishing the Eagles with fast, smart play. Q3 was a turning point, with a dominant 18-point quarter built on relentless defensive pressure and great team chemistry. The Eagles came out swinging in Q4 with a heavy physical approach, but our girls didn’t flinch. They matched the intensity with grit and heart. Bodies hit the floor, and every time, 2–3 teammates were there to pick them up. It was tough, it was united, and it was inspiring. A real team win — bring on the Flames next week!
Player of the game
This week’s Player of the Round goes to Ruby Chang by the narrowest margin. With 14 points, her speed, relentless attack, and resilience on both ends set the tone. Special mention to Jennifer Rando, who took on the tough job of marking their main scorer—holding her to just 3 points over three quarters. Imogen Chambers was everywhere in defense, forcing turnovers and finding teammates in scoring spots. Amelia Soka owned the paint with blocks, rebounds, leadership, and 8 points. Sandra Chan was strong inside with 6 points, and Zara Kwiatkowski continued to impress with unselfish play and 4 points. A brilliant team effort all round.

This week was saw the girls play really well, while the score tells a different story. We defended and rebounded strong and defended the paint well. The girls have been working hard in finding space and creating opportunities for themselves and each other which has been great to see this coming more naturally now. The main difference was accuracy around the basket and shot selection which we are keen to see happen and will be working on. Once again to the girls credit they didn’t drop their heads with the score they fought through to the last second.
Player of the game
Zara is such a composed player around the basket. When under pressure she takes her time to ensure her shot isn’t rushed and is always in there ready for the rebound. Always cool calm and collected

Coaches notes
Another pleasing effort against a strong team, but unfortunately a similar result. Lack of execution and defensive intensity in stretches lead to our opposition taking control at the end of the third/into the fourth quarter. The boys came out in the first half really wanting to take the game on and had some stretches of good transition play leading to some strong buckets at the rim. The game was anyone’s as we forced many turnovers from defensive pressure but were unable to execute on the other end consistently enough to grab a lead. I was proud of the boys taking it up to the competition leaders and the growth of some of the players in the squad from game 1 to game 10. I know there is some more wins around the corner once we iron out some of the inconsistencies!
Player of the game
A bit of a different player of the round this week. Not often does this award go to someone who didn’t trouble the scorers. In what started as a frustrating game for Zane, as he had numerous good looks at the basket and could not convert. He is usually an offensive threat but his response to this was to go out and get some stops in the second half, working hard on defense. He also had some fantastic assists to our bigs, setting them up for easy buckets. Zane showed why there is more than one way to affect the game! Keep your confidence, a big game is on the horizon Zane.

Coach: Dave Gan
Won against Hill Raiders (55 – 44)
Coaches notes
The game started off very slow, however the rest of the game the boys were back to who they have been the past month. High intensity both on and off the court, bench was getting vocal and those on the floor played with a lot more aggression and rather being passive like the start they were the one being proactive. Kian had a solid rebounding performance, it seemed every time there was a miss shot he was 70% chance of securing the ball, Austin yet again solid on both ends and we had the luxury of Kian Austin and Brodie giving their big a hard time. Damon played for 4-5mins but was unable to continue due to being sick which allowed the team to learn to play without someone who had been our go to bucket getter for the season. Hayden had his second solid game on both ends and was cutting and moving nicely always in the right spot. Brodie made a big leap from the previous couple of weeks with understanding the correct moments to take shots and when to pass the ball along with top scoring this game at what I believe is a pretty good % once I get footage
Player of the game
Brodie had one of his most solid consistent performance this game and it’s been abit of a roller coaster season so far for him. His shooting was efficient this game as well as his presence inside the paint, and he showed signs of understanding when to pass when surrounded by 2-3 defenders and even when he didn’t, he did acknowledge it. Mark mentioned he was very vocal on the bench with a positive attitude both at training this week and at the game, and it came as no surprised he had one of his best performance this season.

The boys played with what was their best show of intensity so far this season. Our starters linked up really well this weekend. Offensively they were almost unstoppable, but our press is where they shined as a group, racking up steal after steal leading to easy buckets. Shout outs to James and Lukas scoring double digits once again this round, as well as our guards stepping up in the scoring department leading to a well rounded team effort.
Player of the Game
Player of the round is Bevan Garlett. Bevan scored his season high 15 points as well as knocking down multiple 3’s throughout the game. Steal after steal in our press lead to some easy buckets as well as finding and setting up his teammates. He was huge on both ends this week, rolling up his sleeves and doing some heavy lifting.

Loss against Perry Lakes Hawks (55 – 69)
Coaches notes
This week was quite unusual for our team. On paper, it seemed like we should have the upper hand in the game. We had nearly 15 more shot attempts than the opposition and forced them into 37 turnovers, while we only committed 15 ourselves. Unfortunately, our shooting was off, as we only managed to hit 22% of our shots. This, coupled with being out-rebounded 76 to 38, made it a steep hill to climb. Perry Lakes consistently fields tall teams, regardless of age group, and that reality was evident—especially when fatigue set in. The old adage that “tall players don’t get any shorter” proved to be true for us. However, our defense was impressive once again. It’s encouraging to see the girls adapting well to our new defensive structures. With fewer rotations this week, the team had to dig deep, but fatigue ultimately took its toll. On a positive note, it was great to see Carmenator return to some form and see growth from all of our players.
Player of the Game
This week’s standout player is Matilda. Tilly embodies hard work and serves as the backbone of our team. I couldn’t ask for more from a player who gives her all every time she’s on the court. This week, she was diving for loose balls, setting screens, and is always trying to clean up for the team. She finished with six points, 11 rebounds, three steals, and a block—all a testament to her genuine effort. Tilly is the kind of hard worker who puts on her hard hat, grabs her lunch pail, and would go to work in the mines if needed. It’s incredibly pleasing to coach someone like her, who has emerged as a real leader for this group throughout the year. Well done, Till

Coaches notes
Playing a very tall Perry Lakes team, we knew rebounding would be the key to the game. We came out strong in the first half competing well on the boards and generating our office from our great defence. We won the first half 31 – 16. In the second half, we faced a different Hawks team. We fought hard to win the battle of the paint as they continually played to their height advantage, scoring inside. We battled on and found a way to will the win by pulling together as a team and maintaining our great defensive pressure.
Player of the game
Eliose Clince. Eloise was her usual competitive self, leading the way for us with her intense defence and relentless ball containment. Eloise showed outstanding poise with her effective shot making in the final moments of the game, sinking consecutive baskets to help secure the win for us. Game to game, we’ve come to lean on Eloise’s reliable performance at both ends this season.

Great effort from the girls playing the top team in our division. Last time we played Slammers at Ray Owen, we were defeated 65 to 19, a margin of 46 points. So, the team had a goal of keeping the opposition at or below that score while increasing our own score. The girls came out with determination and energy and were only down 11 -7 at quarter time and 30 to 18 at half time. Talking at half time, the team were really focused to outscore Slammers in the 3rd quarter, which they did 19 – 15, bringing the game into reach and were at one stage being only down 6 in the early stages of the fourth. However, Slammers did bring defensive pressure and physicality to the game and our team started to fall away and ended up losing by 21 points.
Such a great effort by the girls and are looking forward to next Saturday against East Perth before the holiday break.
Player of the game
Gisele was our player of the game this week. Gisele is one of our DP players and made the most of her opportunity to put in her best performance of the season.
Gisele scored 6 points which was her highest score of the season and showed confidence in bringing the ball up through traffic and created many chances in offence for her team mates. Well done Gisele and we are looking for to more of the same for the rest of the season. A special mention to Kirsten who was our top scorer with 15 points shooting two 3s.
Finally, a big congratulations to our hardest working and selfless defensive player, Lucy who scored her first 3 of the season which brought the house down.

Coach: Bruno Kongawoin
Won against Willetton Tigers (95 – 74)
Coaches notes
We faced the Willetton Tigers this week and came away with a solid win. Despite their struggles this season, Willetton remains a dangerous side capable of upsetting any team on the right day. They started hot, hitting three quick triples and setting the pace early. We were slow to respond, playing at their tempo and unable to find our rhythm, trailing by just one at halftime.
The third quarter began as a back-and-forth battle before we finally clicked into gear and took control for good. Our 3-point shooting woes continued, going just 8-of-35, but we were efficient inside the arc, shooting 56% from two. Most encouraging was our season-low turnover count. A trend we hope continues.
Prince Balila sparked the final quarter with 9 of his 10 points, supported by Kieran Dunn and Ryker Phillips with 8 apiece, and Tadiwa Rukodzi with 7. Amani Kongawoin was a force inside, anchoring our defense and contributing 8 points. Ryker Phillips once again led the way with 24 points, followed by Llafton Muller (16), Raymond Tafira (14), and Tadiwa Kukodzi (13). Next week, we face the Hills Raiders in what promises to be a thriller.
Player of the game
This week’s Player of the Round, as voted by the team, is Amani Kongawoin. Amani’s growth has been impossible to miss. Each week he’s showing more confidence, and it’s translating into stronger performances on both ends of the floor. His improved mindset, hustle, and focus have been a real boost to the group. Sunday was a positive showing for our guys, with a start specifically planned for the Raiders & a group that went out focused on executing to a high standard. I can confidently report that our first quarter was the most organized & deliberate start we’ve had this season, setting us up for a lot of positive basketball. Our opening group included Korbyn for the first time, who provided energy & the right attitude, while others mixed experience & speed. Our second group were then tasked with a defensive change & tempo management objectives, all of which were met. Overall, the take-away is that we, as a group have learned a lot & are now able to have reliable combinations, playing multiple roles. When we play guard heavy combinations, it’s fun to watch the ball move, & our motto of “if the ball doesn’t zip – you sit” is beginning to pay off, particularly when we have unselfish guards on the floor like Atticus, Reuben & Sam. I appreciate that junior sportsmen tend to be motivated by scoring, but it’s nearly impossible to produce a 100-point game without sharing the ball. Every player this week returned a statistical ‘Game-Score’ in the positive, showing how we have shared responsibilities & ultimately shared successes across the Team.
Player of the game
Selecting player of the game this week was a challenge, with strong contributions from Artin, Adam, Reuben (close to the nod) & Billy. It’s a wonderful sign to have so many in the mix for the pizza! However, on Sunday Noah delivered on his rebounding potential, throwing in a bag of points too. The 11 boards were the clincher, making Coach James happy. I though was buoyed by Noah showing his ability to get organized defensively & hold his positional lines in traps. Being a small Team means the little details count. Noah was just outstanding with the technical side of his game on Sunday. He’s a very important cog in the Blue wheel & I suspect we haven’t yet seen Noah’s full potential yet!

There was a strong sense of belief and positive energy heading into this game, and the team came out with a better start than in previous weeks. The first quarter was tight and low-scoring, with us holding a narrow 2-point lead. Both offences found more rhythm in the second, but we responded well with a balanced attack to stay ahead by 3 at halftime. Despite some tough third quarters this season, the girls held firm against a strong Lakeside push, maintaining a 2-point lead into the final term. With the win in sight, the team came out firing, scoring the first 9 points of the last quarter to stretch the lead to 11 and holding that margin to secure the victory. It’s a huge relief to get our first win of the season—a well-deserved reward for the team’s hard work at training. If we keep playing our game, I’m confident that more success will follow in the second half of the season. Great job team Orange!

Sunday’s game was a true reflection of the hard work they have been putting in at training, which finally paid off with a well-earned and thoroughly deserved win.
The first quarter was a battle, with Perry Lakes leading us by 3. After a quick reset, the team dug deep and shifted gears. They ran the lanes with purpose, moved the ball early, and played solid team basketball.
We dominated the boards at both ends of the court and applied relentless pressure that kept Perry Lakes from settling into their offence. It was clear they were playing for each other, making that extra pass, turning good shots into great ones.
What stood out most was their unselfish play and energy. Whether on the court or on the bench, every player was fully engaged and determined to come away with a win.
