Fall Seven Times, Stand Up Eight

I don’t think there is anyone alive who isn’t going through some sort of ‘stuff’.

Little, big, it doesn’t matter, we all go through it but it’s how we react to that ‘stuff’ that is most important.

The Japanese proverb above basically reminds us that when we get knocked down, we need to get back up. That’s how we build up resilience.

Every stumble or fall will teach us something about ourselves.

The secret isn’t trying to avoid that ‘stuff’, it’s in refusing to let that ‘stuff’ keep us down.

As I said before, we aren’t alone in going through ‘stuff’ – it happens to everyone. Does that mean you should ignore other’s problems then because you are going through your own issues?

No, it doesn’t. Let me give you an example and a challenge to you as a teammate.

If your teammate gets knocked over during a play, when the whistle is blown, do you run straight over to pick your teammate up or do you turn and complain to the umpire or coach or whoever might choose to listen?

We can all be better when it comes to helping those around us, so just as we would like people to help us, let’s be better at getting out of our own bubble and be more aware of those close to us who might be struggling to.

If you find yourself having trouble getting back on your feet, feel free to contact me at chaplain@sunsbasketball.com.au. I’m more than happy to have chat if you need it.

As we approach the Mitchell Delle Coste Memorial Game against the Buccs this upcoming weekend, we're sharing messages from Danny Delle Coste that remind us to be kinder to ourselves and others.

Whether it's getting out of bed, reaching out to a friend, or taking the next step forward, every win matters.
